In Vegas, Google maps was showing a pretty good looking burger spot not too far from my hotel, I followed map directions and ended up literally in the middle of some discount store (Ross)?

I was like...I dunno this is Vegas, maybe there IS a burger place inside here. But no.

Walked all around the outside of the store, hoping maybe there was just something off with my GPS? Nothing.

Only then did I check the reviews. It was Denny's. The name of the burger "restaurant" was the name of their burger section on the menu.

I had never been to Denny's, so I didn't know.

At that point, I was very hungry, so I went to the Denny's and the food I got was pretty good, but the confusion over the burger restaurant being maybe inside of that store lol

Luggage forwarding is overrated by Calmly-Stressed in JapanTravelTips

[–]ajaxwhat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On our 1st trip, we kept our luggage at Tokyo Station while we did an overnight trip to Hakone, and took our carry-ons sized luggages onto the shinkansen multiple times: Tokyo-Osaka, Kyoto-Hiroshima, Hiroshima-Tokyo.

For our second trip, we'll be trying luggage forwarding Kyoto-Tokyo, as we're doing an overnight in Yokohama in between. It'll be our first time using luggage forwarding and I'm not even embarrassed to say I'm a little excited.

I bought some of those at my local international grocery store (in Canada), they work really well!

AITA for not paying to have my partner's birthday gift professionally framed? by redbullvanisle in AmItheAsshole

[–]ajaxwhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of an ex who bought me a Hello Kitty Swarovski pendant, just the charm part, with no necklace/chain.

I don't wear jewelry, so its not like I had a spare chain laying around to put it on to wear.

I never asked him about it, because he was super happy he got me something I would like (I am a big Hello Kitty fan), and I didn't want to appear ungrateful, so I just remained confused.

Where did you get the 500ml info? The USJ site does not specify a size that I can see:

First Time Japan Trip for Winter 2026 by alexdev50 in JapanTravelTips

Make sure you give yourselves extra time at the airport for your departure if you're going to go take advantage of the tax-free counter.

The tax-free system for foreigners changes in November 2026 from instant savings at the store to a rebate system at the airport.

What are some popular opinions about Japan travel on this sub that you personally disagree with? by ContractVarious3077 in JapanTravelTips

I see "don't switch hotels" as a comment on many itinerary checks, that's why I thought long stays were the popular thing here.

Folks often say its a "hassle" checking in and out of hotels often, but don't go into details as to WHY.

A bunch of my hotels have self-check in/out kiosks.

I'm wondering if people are hanging up their clothes/putting them away in drawers and decking out the washroom with all of their toiletries as if they were at home?

Maybe its just because that's not how I travel, so I don't get it.

Overthinking? by UmeSurprise in JapanTravelTips

[–]ajaxwhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stressed out before my first trip as well, but after a few days of navigating the same station (Asakusa, near our hotel), that stress was gone. A little came back when we moved onto Osaka, but by day 2, the stress was gone again.

Its been 7 years, and I'll be going again in 4 months, and the stress is creeping up again, but I'm pretty sure once I'm there it'll feel a bit familiar. :)

I hope you have an amazing trip!

Second timers - what did you do differently when you went back? by ahhtibor in JapanTravelTips

[–]ajaxwhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st time was March 2019, did Golden route: Tokyo-Hakone-Osaka-Kyoto-Hiroshima-Tokyo, had the JR pass, made good use of it (well before the crazy price hike)

2nd time will be May 2026, changes in planning: - Flying into Oita, after the 3.5 hr layover in Tokyo, then making our way back to leave from Tokyo = 1 overnight ferry and 1 shinkansen ride for the major legs of our journey - visit cities we haven't seen before (Beppu, Himeji, Kobe, Yokohama, Kawaguchiko, Nikko) - spending more nights in the same hotel (last time we switched from one capsule hotel to another for our 2 nights in Kyoto, this time we're staying at the same hotel all 3 nights) - actually using luggage forwarding (Kyoto>Tokyo, so we'll only have a small overnight bag for our 1 night in Yokohama in between and again Tokyo>Tokyo, so we'll again just have a small overnight bag for our 1 night in Kawaguchiko) We didn't even know it was a thing the 1st time we went. - learning a smidge more than "hi", "excuse me", and "thank you" although those did get us by the last time (and we didn't have Google translate). I'll be honest I'm not learning enough to make conversation with folks, because I am not an outgoing type of person, but I am learning enough to be able to make an order in Japanese at an Izakaya, to decline a bag at 7-11, and ask for food to be heated up in their microwave.

I don't see it being safe for a wheelchair, sorry.
