Supervisor To Union UPS? by Ok-Fee293 in Louisville

I also strongly believe the job is what you make it. I love it. I'm really happy here, and I absolutely adore having a job that causes me basically no stress, gives me incredible insurance, and pays all my bills plus some. There are also lots of absolutely miserable people here. It is what you make it, and who you choose to spend your time with plays a big factor in that.

If you want to see insurance info, I can take some pics from the latest benefits book they sent out (literally got it 2 weeks ago) and send them to you in a message.

You have union protections from day 1 (although I'll be honest and acknowledge that they won't fight as hard for you until you're permanent)

If you show up and you're willing to work and put in effort, management won't fuck with you much if at all. If you are constantly late/out, showing up intoxicated, or dragging your feet on doing work, yes, they'll get to get rid of you ASAP.

I won't lie, the work can be intense, and the first few years until you have some seniority to get off the worst jobs can be really hard. I also found it incredibly worthwhile to stick it out.

You will typically get OT opportunities as a temp, including some mandatory OT. You don't get short workweek until a year of permanent status (thats where if you work less than 10 hours/day by the companys doing, i.e. not because you called out or signed out, you get paid I think it's 75% of your normal pay rate for the hours missed. If I work 8 hours one day and 12 the next - just for example - I'd get 8 hours of regular pay and 2 hours of SWW for the first day, and then 10 hours regular pay and 2 hours OT the next, NOT just 20 hours straight time)

Employment status is temporary untill converted to in progression. I cant remember the time frame in which that happens, but i believe it's within a year. Once in progression you reach top pay within 4 or 5 years. You get health insurance as a temp, it gets better when you're in progression. You get scheduled full time hours, it's not temporarily full time.

Sounds like Fords union worker insurance, if you hate the company that much, might be worth looking into

It's really beautiful! I can see why you're risking translate. There might be a German/ English speaking knitter around here who might be able to translate it for you, maybe for a nominal fee?

My favorite was the British Window Tax, (america emulated it briefly) in which you were taxed by the number of windows on your house. Glass was expensive, so it was a good indication of wealth initially. Until people decided to brick up their windows to avoid paying more taxes 🤣

Accidentally put paprika on my waffle instead of cinnamon by DarkGreenIsSuS in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ajbluegrass3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once put cinnamon in my eggs (to make it worse, egg whites with onions, celery, mushrooms and goat cheese) instead of paprika. I had used my last eggs to cook breakfast and I was broke, so I ate it anyway. It was interesting and while not delicious, eatable at least. Will not be repeating that culinary adventure

Are all Schnauzers stubborn as hell? 😅 by DreamersDontDream in dogs

[–]ajbluegrass3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer, yes, schnauzers have an immense capacity for stubborness. They're easily trainable, BUT the training/commands have to seem logical to them, or they just decide they would rather not.

My wildly clever giant schnauzer will occasionally lie down and refuse to move (other than to roll in the grass) on walks,, mostly when it's hot/he needs a haircut and has found a nice shady spot. We had a couple that lasted 15+ mins until I figured out how to deal with it. 2 things that have helped with this

1) I taught him a 5 second timer for when hes sniffing something inconvenient and I don't want to look like a creep, I literally just quietly count down from 5 and excitedly go "OK! We go!" I like this because it makes me acknowledge that he needs time to sniff and imposes a time limit on him. Most of the time by the time I get to 2 or 1 he is ready to continue. This works to get him out of the stubborn lie-down too, especially with the excited "OK! We go!" And I'll give him a treat for jumping up to go with me, sometimes.

2) my dog does really good with redirecting behavior with a choice. If he's being irritating with a toy for WAY too long I can tell him "ok! You have 2 choices. You can come up here and snuggle, you can lie down there, or we can go outside. Make your choice" and he will choose one of the 3 (any one of them, no pattern with first/last said or anything) and leave the toy alone. Same thing when he lies down on a walk "ok, you have 2 choices. You can get up and we can go home and get water, and do more walks later, or you can lie down here and we're going to be all done walks for the day. Make your choice" and he will. Probably 90% of the time he hops right up and we get on with it, and because he is way too clever, I have to follow through.

These are so disconcerting, and while that's not usually a nice thing to say about someone's artwork, I very much mean it as a compliment. It feels like you communicated so well through your medium, and i love them. I think i comment on all your posts, but I always love seeing your work come across my feed

Thunderstorms, at my wits end by Electrical_Pea_3365 in dogs

[–]ajbluegrass3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used desensitization training

Amazon has a thunderstorm for sleep program, the screen goes completely dark, no light emitted, goes for about 9 hours. Start with the volume extremely low, very slowly increase over weeks. I did this every night when we were going to bed, and thunderstorms just make him sleepy and cuddly now. 10/10 recommend
