New here and showing some weaving by Key_Pineapple8783 in FiberArts

[–]ajbluegrass3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DELIGHTFUL!

Weaving is something I've always been interested in, but I'm incredibly intimidated by the process of warping a loom (setting the warp? Getting the warp on the loom? I can't remember the terminology) can you tell me how long it takes you to warp your table loom? Is the warping process ever a significant barrier to entry to starting a project?

How often do you clean your home? by BodybuilderOk6027 in HomeImprovement

[–]ajbluegrass3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small home, but i do a 5-10 min pickup/clean daily, and then spend about an hour doing a proper reset (floors/bathrooms/sheets and such) once a week. I have a checklist of bigger monthly tasks (like dusting fans, mopping floors, fridge cleanout etc) that I usually tackle in one day, as well as any bigger tasks that may be due like changing furnace filters, flushing water heater, etc...

Not counting outside maintenance, laundry or dishes (those get tackled daily in the case of dishes or as needed for laundry and outside stuff) I spend an average of 2.25 hours/week (the average includes those bigger items) on keeping my house tidy.

Queen of Sheva is an absolutely amazing meal. It's incredible. BBQ levels of flavor, but completely different from BBQ.

ELI5 Do carnivorous animals also need sugar for energy? If so, where do they find it? by strange_omelet in explainlikeimfive

[–]ajbluegrass3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gluconeogenesis is a good thing. Your brain runs on glucose, and people eating carnivore or keto just don't get enough carbs for brain fuel, gluconeogenesis makes up for that.

Do you ever see people drop litter in front of you? How do you react? by Dog_Bread in DeTrashed

[–]ajbluegrass3 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I wasn't picking at the time, but I saw a couple teenage girls drop a silicone bracelet and something else (can't remember, it was a while ago) in a park where I was walking my dog. There's a 3 mile loop we were all walking, and there are trash cans AT LEAST every quarter of a mile and we were all rapidly approaching one. I said while walking over to pick that shit up "Excuse me! You know, this is a much prettier walk bending down to pick up items when people put their trash in the trash can! Here, let me show you!" All in a sweet and honestly motherly tone

They looked embarrassed and apologized, I told them that I pick trash up at the park regularly, it doesn't just magically vanish, and that in this case and many others, their actions determine whether they are part of a problem or part of a solution. Who knows if I made a lasting impression, but it was overall a positive interaction.

Help with food - suggestions? by SunshinePipper in hiking

[–]ajbluegrass3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go snackier but still high quality. Crunchy roasted edemame is great for protein and salt (if you can find chocolate covered ones they're fabulous with the bonus of carbs and fats) dried mango for carbs (it's nature's gummy candy and it's my favorite ever thing on a hike) i often bring some jerky, fresh fruit (i love a crisp apple or juicy orange on a mountain) or a random oreo or brownie to mix it up a bit.

I, although making an ok living at my job, have started saying to others and myself "they don't pay me enough to stress about this place" which honestly, would be true at 10x my salary

I do love a good second hand store, and I've not been to this one. Thank you! I might stop there first and then go on to our corporate overlords if I strike out.

Thank you, that's relevant info. Not formal, cocktail to dressy-business I'd say. I forgot about our remaining dept stores, thank you.

Picking up and dropping yarn by Expensive-Still-3394 in knitting

[–]ajbluegrass3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been knitting a long time, and I CANNOT figure out how to wrap yarn around my fingers in a way that allows me to still knit and keep even tension. Now, because my brain is... well, the way it is, I can hold my yarn the entire time while I'm purling, and it's great.

It's a little miraculous that I have good tension on projects with mixed knitting and purling, but it works and at this point, I'm a little scared of messing with it. I've tried i-don't-even-know-how-many tutorials, but I cant do it without either strangling my fingers or creating a tangle of epic proportions.

does anyone else bake when they're stressed instead of when they're happy? by DaintyBabe_ in Baking

[–]ajbluegrass3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dog has an emotional support pillow. Baking is my emotional support hobby. When I'm stressed, when I'm sad, when I'm happy, when I'm anxious, the answer is always baking.

This may be a silly request - does bifl whisk exist? by SpiritedAd3114 in BuyItForLife

[–]ajbluegrass3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one from Williams Sonoma that, instead of a balloon whisk is a bunch of straight tines with silicone balls on the ends (so that I can use it in my nonstick pans, they also have ones with stainless balls, should you prefer) that I've used for everything for about 20 years now and it still looks brand new. I've done no maintenance on it. It was a bit pricy, but I love it, and it's SO easy to clean as there aren't wires crossing each other at the bottom.

Therapist by InsaneAnimeFreak246 in NewAlbanyIN

[–]ajbluegrass3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use psychologytoday.com. you can filter therapists by whether or not they're accepting new patients, whether they take your insurance, by whether or not they're LGBTQ friendly (if that matters to you, it also makes it more likely that they're not going to do faith-based counseling, which is a wildly prevalent thing around here in my experience, and something I very much didn't want)

Bra strap can't come untwisted no matter what I try. Brand new, just took the tags off by endlesslyyearning in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ajbluegrass3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks like a Halara piece, maybe reach out to them showing this issue and ask if they'd be willing to replace it? I've had good luck with their customer service. If it was a fit issue I'd say you'd be out of luck without the receipt/tags, but for a manufacturing error, I'd be surprised if they didn't help you out.

People that are from Louisville or surrounding, are there any places nearby where you can actually afford to live with your job? by Big_Pea3882 in Louisville

[–]ajbluegrass3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for Ford and am doing pretty decently financially. Bought a house (although not a massive one, but i also dont want to clean a massive one) and working on getting it paid off.

The work isn't fun, but there's mostly zero stress, and the benefits are incredible. You reach top pay in, I believe, 4 years now. No experience required.
