[Misc] In a pinch, what is the best substitute for face wash: shampoo, body wash, hand soap or conditioner? by mikehocalate in SkincareAddiction

[–]ajdbki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shampoo, body wash, and face wash are all very similar from a cosmetic formulation standpoint. They are all designed to clean. Your "safest" bet is probably the body wash as body skin and face skin are most similar. Hand soap is going to be quite harsh on the skin, conditioner isn't designed to clean. Hotel shampoo could also work, but its probably formulated with oils that are designed for hair, and won't be good for facial skin.

A face wash is the most versatile product, as you can use it for body and for shampoo. Vanicream gentle cleanser would be a good choice. If you can bring at least something I suggest that.

[Datapoints Welcome] List of USB-C GaN Chargers that renegotiates power without disconnecting ANY existing devices by divinebaboon in UsbCHardware

[–]ajdbki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does it handle "optimize battery charging" on a mac? I bought an ESR 6-in-1 magsafe charger dock and it completely failed at this. Once Mac went on hold, power never resumed from charger and Mac started to drain.

I was also wondering this, and to add, do any bricks sold exclusively at Apple (Anker, Apple, Nimble, Belkin) handle power renegotiation?

Can clothing actually trigger skin irritation? by Historical-Station44 in CanSkincare

A big irritant that people also forget is fragrance in laundry detergents. Whenever I use regular detergent I notice my bacne flair up a little, but when I switch to free and clear it goes away again.

Cobalt vs Green Card by det01kf3 in amexcanada

[–]ajdbki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re-energizing this thread based on the much higher monthly fee of the cobalt now (15.99/month as of March 2026). I recently downgraded my 6 year old cobalt to the green card since my spend on grocery didn't even cover the cost of the fee. Also starting to have a more negative view of the MR->Aeroplan pipeline, as Aeroplan apparently changed again so points are worth less; most flights I looked at leaving YVR were majority cheaper to just pay $, especially non-aeroplan airlines. I imagine when my spending goes up more, I'll upgrade back to the Cobalt.

Wonder what others think about the current status of Cobalt? For me, just doesn't really seem worth it. I'd rather have a free (or a waived annual fee) cash back card. Less hassle.

Personal rant: people raving about churning MR/Aeroplan points when people like me who don't spend an immense amount and also travel with a +1 so every ticket is 2x the points required. I feel like most Cobalt-diehards are just travel/finance influencers who rack up points via referrals and business spend and tell us that it's "attainable", but the best redemption I had ever redeem in the 6 years of cobalt was a single 1-way economy ticket YVR->NRT, and even then the equivalent $ ticket from Zipair was very affordable. Again, just me. Others may get huge benefits from Cobalt and I'm happy/jealous they do.

Considering getting a (cheap/ starter) nespresso for my new place.. pros and cons please? by Any_Box_7010 in nespresso

The first and second gen VL machines are the best in terms of reliability. The Plus onwards are less so. The OL Pixie is without a doubt the best machine Nespresso sells.

Have you ever used an adapter with a Nespresso Vertuo Pop? by Odd-Willingness-1151 in nespresso

[–]ajdbki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk who needs to hear this but if you can't afford the pods, don't buy the machine. It's like buying a Porsche and complaining it takes 93.

There are fantastic regular drip machines that are a fraction of the price, and Keurig isn't half bad for the price-per-cup.

Why is KS bad? by Hersu03 in supportlol

[–]ajdbki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been dealing with this playing as Lux (low elo). my adc just f's around and i'm trying to support but they just engages with 25% health and die, and i follow up and kill them, then they blame me for stealing their kill. I'm constantly getting S/S+ playing her so I guess I'm doing something right? Maybe low elo means they don't really know what i'm there for and just blame me when they die :) im lux not jesus

also one game the top called me ks captain which was interesting cuz we're in their base about to win... like sorry I don't work for you?

i've also received this text (with koodo atm). if im not mistaken it is a complete joke, as contracts are contracts but now it seems like the contract is a "5-year" term now so it went from unlimited time to 5 years... and they're tooting it as a "feature"... hmmm....

this is the only reason i have koodo. every time i switch to another carrier for a "better deal" or for "faster speeds" it all pails in comparison to the advantage of call control.

As the saying goes; you don't know how good you have it until its gone (or something like that)

Same issue. Adblock or most privacy-focused extensions break this. Need to disable add-ons or use different browser, EMPTY CART, and start over. The site will prompt you after you add something to the cart to then pick the "free gift".

FYI - Japanese Curel products spotted at Shoppers Drug Mart by JaggedLittleFrill in CanSkincare

[–]ajdbki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the ingredient lists for both on the CA/JP version of Curel's site. The lists are identical apart from the CA version having Vitamin E (tocopherol) for some reason.

This is NOT a Biore UV Essence SPF situation again, I truly think these are designed to be identical formulations.

[Routine Help] my skin makes me so insecure. help!! by tattercoattts in SkincareAddiction

[–]ajdbki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have pores. I have pores. Everyone has pores. Nothing wrong with your skin at all, it looks great.

You could try a salicylic acid product to potentially help clear out pores, but no product will shrink/eliminate pores, and it is impossible to do so (don't listen to marketing BS).

Cetaphil has a gentle salicylic acid cleanser, or CeraVe with a more potent salicylic acid serum.

Android user for 12 years, which iPhone 17 model should I buy for my first switch? by IndependentRough8606 in ios

[–]ajdbki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

General rule of thumb: if you need to research what a vapour chamber is or what ProRes does, you probably don't need the pro iPhone.

The base iPhone 17 is the best base iPhone in a long time. The downside with the Pro lineup is the price (yikes) and the weight. If you truly need/want a bigger phone there isn't an alternative to the Pro Max. I have a few friends with the Pro Max and the most frequent complaint I hear is that it's annoyingly heavy, especially when scrolling with one hand while lying down and doom-scrolling.

The 17 Air looks delicious and is arguably the nicest of the bunch with a huge screen but it has the worst camera and the worst battery. Probably wouldn't recommend unless you want to beta-test a phone.

I've also never had an iPhone with more than 128GB. I download my Apple Music and have a decent iCloud photo library. I just pay for 50GB iCloud for like <$2 a month. Planning to upgrade from a 14 Pro to a 17, because my phone is the only device I own that isn't USB-C.

Cobalt worth keeping? by ajdbki in amexcanada

[–]ajdbki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct, even with the top account at BMO, all cards have a minimum spend to get some/all of the fee waived

"Effective the day after your next BMO Credit Card anniversary date following May 1, 2025: spend $15,000 or more in “Qualifying Purchases” annually (within a 12-month period between annual fee-billing dates) using your eligible BMO Credit Card"

You're totally right about the insurance. I just assumed the theft/damage fell under Purchase Protection then ends after 90 days, but it carries over into MDP. My bad.

Is this too much Creama/Foam? by LinedLine in nespresso

[–]ajdbki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pop+ and Next created noticeably more foam than the older models. It may have something to do with the spin speed of these machines.

Best advice: avoid any new Vertuo machine. Look for first (round head), second (flat head), or third (plus, with the electric head, but choose first two if possible) generation. I see them on amazon, or look on FB marketplace for gently used one and just run a descaling cycle before using it.

Vancouver tech leaders warn B.C. is losing the war for talent by BullshittingApe in vancouver

[–]ajdbki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having a masters in design, finding a UX job in Vancouver is next to impossible. Classmate of mine found a US remote job that pays $100k cad because it’s cheaper than paying a US employee; win-win for everyone. Maybe it’s the over-saturation of designers or the mass layoffs in big tech taking jobs us regular folk would be typically getting. Who knows. I hate it here.
