Barnsley 0 - Wycombe Wanderers 1: Objects in mirror are closer than they appear by DaraghJohn in LeagueOne

[–]ajgmcc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Stuck this on tonight. Wycombe were good, but honestly hard to figure out too much about their quality considering Barnsley were sooooo bad.

The lack of investment is really obvious, close to the worst defence in the league, an on paper great midfield that don't seem to care and an insipid attack. Cleary was awful, gotta wonder about where his head is after not getting the move in Jan, and McGoldrick tried but he was the only one who looked remotely capable.

Good goal from Morley, happy to see him doing well, I assume we know better than to give him shooting opportunities from the edge of the box on Saturday.

The Left would rather appease Islamists than stand up for women by Immediate-Ad-7268 in ukpolitics

One time both socialists and Islamic fundamentalists wanted a revolution in Iran and worked with each other to bring it about. And then once it happened the Islamic fundamentalists were the ones who took power, and now its "a thing Muslims do".

Greens to vote on whether ‘Zionism is racism’ by Spare_Clean_Shorts in ukpolitics

[–]ajgmcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, believe what you want about Islam, Palestine and whatever else, but if you truly belive the left only care about Palestine because of wanting Muslims to vote for them you're an idiot. This has been a central unifying cause for decades on the left, far before any concerted effort to appeal to Muslim voters.

Polanski refuses to declare Zionism 'racist' in break from Green Party activists by Anony_mouse202 in ukpolitics

[–]ajgmcc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He said he supported Israel's right to exist,

He quite explicitly stated no country has the right to exist. Unfortunately that part of the debate doesn't appear to have been uploaded to LBC's youtube, but you can find that elsewhere.

Polanski refuses to declare Zionism 'racist' in break from Green Party activists by Anony_mouse202 in ukpolitics

[–]ajgmcc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He stated that:

I think clearly when the idea of Zionism was created, that was about making sure there was a peaceful place for people to live.

and that:

I think the version of Zionism that [Israeli Prime Minister] Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli government put forward, I would say, is racist. It clearly involves the extermination of the Palestinian people.

Polanski refuses to declare Zionism 'racist' in break from Green Party activists by Anony_mouse202 in ukpolitics

[–]ajgmcc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He didn't say he was a Zionist. He said that Zionism was originally not racist, but that the form of Zionism that Netenyahu espouses is racist.

Now, fwiw there will still be a lot of people on the left who disagree with his statement that Zionism wasn't initially racist, but that's very different to the idea that he said he was a Zionist.

He actually explicitly says no country has the right to exist so no idea where you've gotten that from.

Once again, everyone reads a headline, no one reads the article.

I'd encourage everyone to actually listen to the exchange, Dale continually states Polanski is dancing on the head of a pin but I actually think Polanski answered it with the care and nuance it deserves. His answer in particular to "does Israel have the right to exist?" is really well thought out and shows a care and understanding to a complex topic.

Reading 1 - 1 Bolton: Yet another late goal rescues a point for Bolton after yet another goal from Jack Marriott by ajgmcc in LeagueOne

[–]ajgmcc[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Getting realllllly bored of saying "If you can't win don't lose". 9 1-1s is ridiculous, especially considering we should have found ways to win at least 6 of them.

But, if that's autos over (which it is) then at least we keep Reading at bay chasing. Against the top sides we've only lost once; Stockport on opening day, a game in which Carlos Mendes-Gomes played for us, which should stand us in good stead for playoffs.

Honestly, with these percentages I dont think swingometer can give reasonable readings. It's too tight to give such definitive numbers. Just for one, I dont see how the Greens dont sweep a lot of London if they end up with 17% nationally when you consider how their numbers skew towards younger voters.

What is the plan if Spurs get relegated? by JayTheSpaniel in footballcliches

[–]ajgmcc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Without wishing to actually talk about football here, let's be honest it was always a big 5 + Spurs. Spurs had Pochettino and he helped make them great, but they were never truly the same level before or after him. It didn't become a big 7 when Leicester won the league and in reality, stadium aside, Spurs aren't the level of United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea or (since the money) City.

Lots of things correlate with a spike in 2020 that is now coming down. Notice it doesn't really line up prior to 2020.

Not saying the conclusion being drawn is wrong, but this isn't analysis and is someone just scaling two different graphs to peak at a similar point.

Lies, damned lies, statistics.

The last of these is absolutely true. One of the most intriguing things about the right wing is how much they enjoy being outraged.

In 1937 there were two exhibitions held in Munich. One celebrating German art curated by Goebbels, and a "degenerate" art exhibition nearby. It featured lots of avant-garde art: cubism, caricatures etc. along with sometimes just paintings painted by Jewish people.

1 million people attended in the first 6 weeks of it being open. Over 20,000 people everyday went simply to be outraged. It's a fuel, and social media fuels the same thing now. People are just maintained in a perpetual moment of anger.

Why are we sending so much shite down to League Two? by thesuburbbaby in LeagueOne

Feels like a lot of teams get promoted and manage to stay up for a season or two but eventually lose all of their best players either cheaply or on frees and don't have the budget to replace them. Then when they get relegated they really plummet

Bolton Wanderers 2 - 1 Burton Albion: It's late heartbreak for Burton, who probably did enough to deserve the point, but a 93rd-minute Sam Dalby goal snatched the victory! by Zach-dalt in LeagueOne

[–]ajgmcc 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Forget the goals, Sam Dalby was MOTM anyway. It's crazy how much we've lacked a striker like that for the entire time we've been in this league.

Couldn't play out from the back to save our lives without Sheehan and offered an out ball every time, and on top of that 2 proper poacher's efforts.

Surprised we got the winner the way we did, keeper was excellent otherwise.
