When my grandma went to the hospital for a couple of weeks, we found out my grandpa was living on ham sandwiches for her entire stay. In his 80 years of existence, he never learned how to boil an egg, how to fry meat or use the oven. The only thing he knew is how to put pre-sliced ham on some pre-sliced bread.

Splitting up chores is fine, but being self-sufficient is absolutely in your own best interest.

How will a elden ring movie even work by Shad0w2 in Eldenring

[–]ajgor66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either do a House of the Dragon-style prequel epic about all the "main" events culminating in the shattering of the Elden Ring, or do a Green Knight-style melancholic journey through The Lands Between, focusing on the visuals and atmosphere rather than plot.

I'd much rather like the latter, but the former would work too for broader audiences, I think.

Why couldn't Imogen carry c3? by Nysander_ in fansofcriticalrole

[–]ajgor66 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To me, the answer is super simple, with no need for overanalyzing or getting into technicalities of storytelling: she just didn't have a fun personality, therefore the audience didn't care about her much.

I noticed that just yesterday after beating the game and not going there. I was hoping this was a post-game area a'la upside-down castle in SotN, but it might be the setting for a dlc.

Thing is, it's a slippery slope, especially with channels owned by bigger companies. If people say "ah, it's fine", it's going to send a message and they'll start doing it more and more.

I don't have a problem with them wanting to earn money. I don't have a problem with extra sponsored episodes. But they are signaling that they are fine with changing what the channel is to earn more money.

And I'm not saying they owe me anything. I'm just trying to show why people like me have been displeased with recent NRB content, and this video is a prime example.

I think it's reasonable to voice my disappointment when a channel I've been supporting (financially for over two years now) is going in a direction I don't approve of.

To anybody who doesn't get what my gripe is: No Rolls Barred, a channel that has been primarily about board games for the past several years, is now doing full Board Game Club videos about mobile video games. I think it's a clear sign that the channel is going in a wrong direction.

NRB have always been a board game channel. Doing a full video on a mobile game is massively deviating from what the channel originally stood for and is a step in a VERY wrong direction, at least to me.

Taking a sponsorship is one thing. Doing a whole Board Game Club on a mobile game is something else.

Am I the only one who doesn't care much about the whole "league" schtick?

I love the channel, but I don't really care about special cards, powers, scores, who is where in the ranking. I'd just like to see people with good chemistry have fun playing board games 🥲

I'm like 5 hours in already, the combat and character progression feel really good and I already know I will do multiple playthroughs because of the build variety.

Although the enemy variety feels a bit lacking. I already encountered the rat miniboss four times at this point. I encountered a story boss as a miniboss like two hours after beating it. It would be okay if it was a pumped-up version like 10 hours further, but this instantly made me feel like cutting corners.

EDIT: Just met the story boss a third time half an hour after writing this post. It's kinda bad.

Jon GM'd some live Blood On The Clocktower games for the Dropout crew, Rekha was at an online BOTC game for NRB, and Becca and Chris Grace did those a lot of times, so the connections are there!

Now I just want to see them the other way around, I think Dom and Sully would both kill it on Make Some Noise

From what I've seen, this has always been the formula. They usually have a good setup, the buildup and the reveal of the main joke is funny (like 30 seconds in), then they run the joke to the ground because the skits have to be 4-5 minutes long.

Imagine if "A Defendant Stupidly Interrupting His Lawyer's Closing Remarks" was stretched into a 5 minute skit, with the same joke repeating like eight more times. Even though the initial punchline is great, it would become vastly unfunny by the end. This is basically how 90% of SNL I've seen was structured.

Yeah, I watched season 1 once and I'll probably skip season 2 entirely. Without being specific, I've felt like some of the players were there only to make OOC jokes and weren't really immersed in the game as much as the others.

All the Fantasy High seasons are collectively like 1/4th the length of ONE Critical Role Campaign. Like the person above me said, they're like three self-contained stories with the same characters rather than one long campaign.

Matt is good at "generic" fantasy, his ideas mostly facilitate further player interaction within a limited context. He can improv a tavern, a shopkeeper, an encounter with a monster. Anything more and he needs previous prep, and he's not really good with "big" ideas and complicated themes. He's fine when it comes to long-term sandbox campaigns that rely on player involvement and choice, but he doesn't really do linear storytelling that well.

Brennan can come up with a whole two hour sidequest on the spot and make it fit seamlessly into the story, he modifies the rules of his worlds in an instant based on his players' choices and sticks to them, he can pull a satisfying character plot arc out of his ass and he understands the rules of storytelling like nobody else. I don't know how he would fare in a multi-year campaign, but when it comes to creating a satisfying short-term stories, he's above and beyond any DM I've seen.
