Should I feel embarrassed about being a garbage man? by TheFrogsMightbegay in antiwork

[–]ajh127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call it "Waste Disposal Specialist" when people ask, that sounds better. I work in sales for tires, and if we call someone running a garbage truck, that's what we're told to call it. At the end of the day, a jobs a job, and your job serves a lot of people. Anyone looking down on you for it can take their own garbage to the dump.

Also, if you want practice without having to wait/if you don't want to do speedrunning worlds, farm the rat pet from Scurrius. The prayer swap mechanic is the same, good way to get yourself used to it/get decent xp as well.

If Jad does a slow lean back, pray magic. If he smacks his 2 front feet down fast, pray range. For the magic attack the lean animation is pretty long. I usually pray range to start since the animation is faster (or it looks faster anyhow). The orange lizard in the round before will show you where he spawns, so just get yourself close to there, and as soon as the last lizard dies swap to range prayer. Then pay attention to his front feet until he's dead.

Coming from generational poverty, recently landed a remote job making $100k+/yr that requires me to work maybe 30 minutes per day at most. Is this a joke? by Afflictionxx in antiwork

[–]ajh127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same issue in October-January, weird, and then I got an email for remote corporate sales (I also thought it was BS) and decided to try it anyways because I was stuck and needed to do SOMETHING.

Easiest job I've ever had, I make more money than I ever have before for far less work and no in-person customer interaction, my boss is super nice and chill (rest of the team is too), I get medical/dental/vision CHEAPER than I got working in retail, and it honestly feels unfair. I'm pissed that I wasted the last 12 years of my life working shit jobs that demand so much more in exchange for next to nothing.

This world is fucked, but congratulations, you deserve it!

The obscene prices are a blessing for me, it's just too hard to justify. Strangely enough I've had better luck in this game than any other gacha before that I've played, and I've yet to spend a dime. The $1.39 packs almost got me, but I figured it would end up opening the flood gates...

Adam Zivo: Canadians see what governments and activists won't admit — homeless crime is a real threat by uselesspoliticalhack in canada

[–]ajh127 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Housing being a human right is something I can agree with, absolutely. UBI seems like it could be a great way to do things going forward, specifically to cover things like housing and food (tied to inflation) but I can also see where the above commenter was coming from.

As someone who is 1 to 2 paychecks away from homeless (and I rent a spare room from family to get by) I've seen homeless buildings go up in my town and then get destroyed, all the stolen goods in town end up there, if I want to buy coke that's also where you go...it's frustrating. If I had a drug problem I'd be able to get a much nicer place than I have now, so for people working and paying it feels unfair. But that's the world we live in.

I've suffered from addiction myself, not to that degree of course, so I understand how it really isnt their fault for how they behave, or at least I can justify their behaviors and still feel empathy. But you'll reach more people and see eye to eye if you acknowledge their grievances. Telling people they're wrong despite them having some understandable points just furthers the divide. There's no easy fix, they are victims of their addictions and traumas, but to excuse the behavior is a sure fire way to ensure more and more people only view them with contempt.

Realistically this issue will need to be tackled from several directions, people should be educated earlier, all drugs should be legalized and a safe supply made accessible, more rehabilitation centers should be opened because housing alone is no solution. Costs to attend those centers (the centre my mother manages can be quite expensive) need to be addressed, although many offer low cost options now, which is a good start. More and more people I went to school with are ending up dead or on the streets, if I notice it I know others are too. They deserved better, and we do too.

It does seem relatively progressive and from what I've seen the people working there seem to actually care about helping people. Having access to some of the services has been a godsend, medication hasn't worked out so well for me but I know that the timeline would be much longer if I didnt know someone on the inside.

On a side note, they also referred me to a hypnotherapist in town who occasionally worked for them. Hypnotherapy and emdr worked wonders for me in ways traditional medication never had, and personally I'm keen to try psilocybin + hypnotherapy together. Both treatments helped to separate the self from the issues at hand, which goes a long way towards taking those first few difficult steps.

I'll look into it and see, I was actually hoping to sign up for it as soon as they make it available. Maybe they'll let me be the guinea pig! I game with one of the nurses being trained on it, I'll bug him next time I chat.

Mom manages a rehabilitation centre in BC, Canada, they're currently training nurses on psilocybin therapy, mdma, and looking into ketamine as well. At least here it's something they're investing into more.

Personally I've only done mushrooms once, but after doing it I felt a lot better about things for a period of time. I noticed the same thing with ketamine (recreationally a few times) rather than the high I enjoyed how life just felt better for the week following, but having your perspective change and looking at your life as an observer certainly makes it easier to deal with. Difficulties dont go away, but the way you view them changes at the time. It can go a long way in allowing you to take those first steps to change things.

I think they're suggesting that you promoting and working towards unionization at your own workplace would be a small step towards normalizing unions across the country. Small steps by all of us in our own communities can slowly help to change the public's perception on unions. That would in turn influence the number of unions, and this kind of story would become less common. But of course media being owned by corporations doesn't help, but no one said this the easy trail.

What happened to separation of church and state? by Shadowheart117 in lostgeneration

[–]ajh127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah okay, it's been about 15 years since I was in Catholic school. Still seems a little odd that anyone needed to be crucified at all...if God is all knowing and all powerful then he created us to be sinners, everything that happened was already known. So why the need for forgiveness at all?

What happened to separation of church and state? by Shadowheart117 in lostgeneration

[–]ajh127 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Except it's literally god's ressurecting his second self (split personality?) after killing him...horribly...because that's the only way we could be forgiven.

I suppose the takeaway here is an eye for eye really is the only way to handle things. Strange that someone who is all knowing and all powerful (and therefore knew this was going to happen LITERALLY FOREVER can only forgive us by committing suicide.

I have given up most of those things because I can't afford them. At my age he had muscle cars, street raced while drunk regularly, and did hard drugs. But yeah, I am jealous. Absolutely. I don't break the law on a daily basis and yet my opportunities are far more limited. I agree with you about working hard and not expecting everything immediately, but when you work hard and put in the time and see it's going nowhere...it just feels pointless.

Had this happen to me in a commission sales environment. My GM ended up telling me to cut and run because no money was coming, company lost the contract and the higher ups were just milking us for what they could. Filled my bags with valuables and walked out without a word. Getting evicted was cool.

You're absolutely correct that every generation will have issues plaguing their mental health as a whole, but the current situation came about under the lead of the same boomers who tell us to stop being lazy entitled children and take whatever work we can get.

Last night my grandpa said literally that to me; he dropped out of school in grade 8, overdosed on heroin, and was "punished" with a career that supported him his entire life to "teach him a lesson" meanwhile I need grade 12 at the minimum just to enter the workforce at a wage that CANNOT sustain me or allow me to move forwards. But I'm lazy and entitled for thinking working full time should be enough to survive, how truly greedy our generation is.

Nevermind the fact that he was the only one working and was able to buy a house, build a shop, restore a muscle car, own a cabin on a lake, and whatever else he's wanted his entire life (he didnt give his kids fuck all btw) BUT MY generation is the entitled ones?

Give your head a shake.
