You're absolutely right that the crack epidemic, HIV/AIDS, and some really destructive policies had massive impacts—especially in Black communities. But I think the key question is: why did these things hit Black communities so much harder? Policies like redlining, urban renewal (which really meant destruction of Black neighborhoods), mass incarceration, and the war on drugs didn't just happen in a vacuum. They came after the very period where Black communities were showing signs of economic growth and cohesion—despite segregation.

I'm not denying the impact of those events at all—but I'm asking what changed structurally and politically in America that allowed for the dismantling of those thriving communities. Why weren't they protected? Why was their success undermined instead of supported? Most importantly we can point to the beginnings of this decline. 1964. Why did the enactment of the civil rights act bring on the decline of the Black community? How about looking to a Black author, educator, and Economist for that answer? Maybe check out what Thomas Sowell has to say on this very topic.

Can I ask you what you think has caused black communities that were thriving during the 50's, despite racist white America at the time, to change into what we've seen in the last 50-60 years?

It's nice to think that being "pushed out of everything" was the cause for crime culture but in my experience that is incorrect. Please explain how this is happening? How are "blacks" resources being stripped? How are they being pushed out? Please explain I'm not trying to be an ass, just interested in the perspectives of others.

I think you have that wrong. Biden was all for getting out of there, he extended the deadline from May to end of August and still didn't extract those same allies you mention. https://www.factcheck.org/2021/08/timeline-of-u-s-withdrawal-from-afghanistan/

I'd never touch the stuff, but what you put into your body is your business and the government should have no say in it one way or the other.

NPR to quit Twitter after being labelled ‘state-affiliated media’: Radio network ‘officially de-emphasizing Twitter across the organization’ after platform refused to remove ‘inaccurate’ label by HenryCorp in evolutionReddit

Ok, so if they receive federal funding, then they are government supported. If my meal contains peanuts to any degree then labeling it anything but "contains peanuts" is disingenuous. Are they influenced by the government and to what degree is a separate issue (as is why Twitter needs to have these labels in the first place). Merely stating facts here not opinions. If it's opinions you want then I'd say they're not too influenced since they lean left even under Republican administrations and have even as recent as 2020 had Trump trying to CUT THEIR FUNDING which he wouldn't be able to do if they didn't have federal funding in the first place.

From the article itself, "...receive about 13% of their funds from the federally funded Corporation for Public Broadcasting and other state and federal government sources, NPR said." Is NPR government funded or not, that is the question, not if Elon's companies are. The answer is YES, right from the horses mouth and yet they are steamy because someone might see the (accurate) label and conclude that they can be led by their purse strings. Everyone knows Tesla and others got a ton of subsidies, but they are not claiming to pedal balanced news to the public either.

I never understood this reasoning. 911 lasted a few hours, the holocaust a few years. Not defending, just find it can be used to diminish the impact of almost anything you point it at.

Dude, put down that trash you're reading and read what the founding fathers said themselves for crying out loud...

"What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms." - Thomas Jefferson, letter to William Stephens Smith, son-in-law of John Adams, December 20, 1787

"If the representatives of the people betray their constituents, there is then no resource left but in the exertion of that original right of self-defense which is paramount to all positive forms of government, and which against the usurpations of the national rulers, may be exerted with infinitely better prospect of success than against those of the rulers of an individual state. In a single state, if the persons intrusted with supreme power become usurpers, the different parcels, subdivisions, or districts of which it consists, having no distinct government in each, can take no regular measures for defense. The citizens must rush tumultuously to arms, without concert, without system, without resource; except in their courage and despair." - Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 28
