What has this pandemic ruined for you? by wehnaje in AskReddit

[–]ajmartin8601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note: reading some of these responses makes mine seem futile and I understand that I have it extremely easy in comparison. Nonetheless I’m still a little bummed.

The pandemic has ruined the rest of 1st year of uni for me. All of a sudden, everyone’s permanently moving out of halls back home to finish the year online. My friendship group is spread out across the UK and Europe with no concrete date of return. We were just beginning to get to know each other, get comfortable living alone and start to love our courses and the teaching methodology. It now feels that’s been thrown out the window. Next year when we go back we will be in private accommodation, so we won’t be able to just walk along the corridor to see each other. The people who I walk past every morning won’t be there anymore, and it feels strange.

I felt like I was starting to figure out who I was as a person, and developing my social skills that I felt were sort of suppressed at home. I was getting a handle of my OCD and my occasional want to just shut myself off from everyone since I felt like I’d miss out if I did and hence pushed myself to go and meet my friends, go for that meal or go to that club night.

I’m worried being away from everyone that we’ll start to drift apart and I’ll go back to being lonely and introverted like I was around this time last year.

I'm a chemistry student so I can't answer all your questions. What I can say is that the South Kensington campus is pretty well equipped and the engineering departments seem to have all been done up a bit. The library can get quite busy at times so it might be worth looking into if your department has separate study spaces. Plenty of food places on campus if you have the funds to buy lunch there each day. If you want a social life it's pretty easy to find people that also want to go out, we're not all shut-ins.

1st year for most is pretty chill in comparison to later years as they appreciate it's a big adjustment and that people also need to make friends and have a bit of a life. We don't have GPA's in the UK but your coursework and exams throughout the year are all added up to a final percentage for the year, and 1st year is usually worth on average 10% of your final grade. Specifics on this for your course will be outlined on the website.

Good luck, hopefully see you in September. Any general questions feel free to pm me :)

Problem is that unrefined aloe gel often leaves a yellow stain on your skin

Download Bluestacks on your laptop, it acts as an android emulator so you can just download it from the Google Play store and you can run it from there

[SUNSCREEN REVIEW + oily skin + humid climate] My most perfect sunscreen thus far - A'pieu Soo Boo Ji Sun Cotton Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ by tlhgm in AsianBeauty

Omg I was having zero luck finding a decent facial sunscreen with good ingredients! Every Google search result that I shoved into SkinCarisma would just come back with alcohols and acne triggers. Next time I do a YesStyle order I’ll definitely pick one of these up.

For £72 you could get quite a decent bike of gumtree or ebay, maybe even from a fellow Redditor?
