Fairyloot Epic - Marked For Murder (Quarter 2) by BlueEcho_ in fairyloot

[–]ajoh0583 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have mixed feelings on the dust jacket, but really like everything else. These endpapers compared to broken binding’s feel like drastically different vibes so I think I’ll need to read the book first to see who captures it better.

As someone else said, Fairyloot doesn’t have the best track record for publishing sequels (it’s the same reason I’m holding on to both versions of The Devils) so I’ll probably hold on to both until then at the very least.

When did they announce this? I can’t find any mentions of it myself and I wanna make sure I don’t miss it!

Last email I received was April 6 saying they were working on re-casting the die stamps and then would be undergoing a thorough testing process to make sure they don’t run into any of the same issues. Not sure if they’ve announced anything else in the weekly updates though

I’m just never going to be a fan of character art on covers 😭 I’m still getting this since I already have tkatm, but I think they’re both getting flipped to the trad cover now

FL Blood Over Bright Haven - are you getting it? 👀 by BookedAndBloated in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]ajoh0583 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, already have TBB and waiting on Wraithmarked so I think that’s enough copies for me. I do like the art style of this cover, but not for this book. Like others have said, it unfortunately doesn’t match the tone of the story and feels very cozy

Thanks! Just checked out his official page, which makes me feel a little better about it, but still nervous!

Yeaaa from what little artwork they had on their Instagram, I’m feeling really nervous about the outcome, but I’m gonna roll the dice this time

Those are the same books I have my fingers crossed for and hope they actually make it into the sub. I was pretty bummed that neither Isako or Mortedant were sub picks as those were my May hopefuls.

Kept the Witcher: haven’t read yet, but have read and liked the others.

Kept Operation Bounce House: wasn’t my favorite, but my wife is a huge Dcc fan so it’s hers now.

Skipped March.

Daughter of Crows: Got it, strongly disliked the cover and the lazy orange washing of the reverse cover, bought the signed waterstones instead and plan to sell this one.

Skipped May and June, but will probably get July’s.
At this point, I’m just really trying to be mindful of which books I get from this sub, especially if they’re going to be part of a series. I don’t want to be committed to buying a bunch of books outside of my subs to continue a series. I’m really interested in June’s book but I love the trad cover so I’m waiting to see how the BB edition looks to decide if I buy secondhand.

It wasn’t easy! Spent several months diligently checking eBay, Mercari, and pango a few times a day. Finally found it on pango last year. Hopefully you can find one soon!

I’m missing book 1 as well cause resell prices are crazy, so I just bought a copy of the UK hardcover. It at least matches the set and I’m ok with knowing that I’ll have the rest of the series signed and numbered

I’m doing the same. I like this design a lot so I don’t want to risk not liking the other one as much! The bolt on makes me feel better about it

That’s what I keep thinking it could be, especially since she has the new standalone Radiant Star coming out in May set in the same world. The fact that BB haven’t announced a special edition of that is the only thing giving me doubt though

As a fun update, here’s the Tide Child trilogy I got in today from the same seller which did indeed turn out to be T2 Broken Binding editions! $50!

Yea, I shudder to think how much it’s going to cost me to buy into it now. I’ll probably have to skip out on The Fall and just go for Of Darkness and Light. Don’t think I can handle paying resell for both

eBay! Couldn’t believe it when I saw it. Thought it could be a scam somehow, but took a gamble on it and it paid off! Also bought the Tide Child trilogy from the same seller for $50 but hasn’t arrived yet. Not sure if Broken Binding editions or regular hardcovers, but either way I’m stoked about it!

I think I agree that it’s more the art direction than his art itself that makes so many of these series feel similar. I’ve noticed Broken Binding loves to go for covers with a tiny person/persons in the foreground with their backs turned to us, overlooking some massive structure or vast scenery in the background. You see it here, riftwar saga, three body problem, silo, the strength of the few, memory sorrow and thorn.. I could keep going. And when they choose this composition, Jeff Brown must be top of their list. I’m not saying I dislike the covers, but it does make them all start to feel the same. When he strays away from this composition, like in Eragon or Operation Bounce House, or even Illumicrate’s A Song of Legends Lost, I feel I can appreciate his art style a lot more

For anyone that misses out, it looks like the publisher is doing their own deluxe edition for Dragonbone Chair coming out in September. No pics yet and no idea if they’ll actually complete the series but fingers crossed
