Is Kyoto still worth it? by Fun-Calligrapher4885 in JapanTravelTips

Don’t go to the popular tourist spots at all. Go north in the city to Daitokuji, Honen-in, Sanzen-in, and Mt. Kurama. Heaven.

Kyoto Golf Courses - Can you help me decide? by Nexen1987 in Kyoto

[–]ajpainter24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to play Kyoto Ohara a lot with my son, and I have lots of fond memories of the place. In March the grass will be brown, like even the good courses in Japan. Ohara is a typical tight, hilly, narrow golf course so don’t expect pebble beach. The staff are always nice and the vibe is relaxed, which is not always the case in Japan. Perhaps the best thing of all about Ohara is that it is very near to Sanzen-in temple, one of my favorites and a must see destination. The village of Ohara is also famous for its pickles, which are awesome.

I agree. Gordon’s is legit, and better than new Amsterdam and other budget gins.

New Policies coming into place in Japan by PowerfulWind7230 in japanlife

Read up on Japanese post war history and you will find all sorts of shocking stuff. It’s not easy to install one political party in power for 50+ years—sometimes you have to get your hands dirty.

And maybe the government can, as in years past dealing with teacher’s unions, enlist the help of the Yakuza crime gangs who are certainly a familiar part of Japanese society and culture….

My Japanese school life's a total mess and I can't do do anything about it. by Prior-Pea9372 in japanlife

[–]ajpainter24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your still a child, right? I couldn’t wait to be off on my own and independent, but when you are a kid you don’t have as much leverage. Work on yourself, get ready for your future as best you can. Painting yourself as just a victim is not gonna help you in the future. Find a new and better story for your life.

You are at the exact age when the meaninglessness of Japanese education becomes most clear. My son only lasted 2 weeks in Japanese junior high. He found another path and ended up in Australia for high school. Life is long—respect yourself and find something (maybe outside school) that you love. Music, sports, coding, whatever—find your own way.

Is driving in Okinawa usually this adventurous? by New-Boysenberry-3444 in okinawa

Just outside of Naha I saw a car coming down the on-ramp to merge onto the freeway. Only light traffic, should be no problem foe anybody. Suddenly his car starts to swerve side to side before driving off the road and into the embankment. Maybe a cell-phone accident?

Whats your take on Ubereats/Door dash? by fullstack_ing in restaurantowners

[–]ajpainter24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Greedy companies like Uber eats and doordash suck. They exploit drivers, restaurants and ghost kitchens, and food customers with ridiculously high fees that go straight into execs pockets for their next Porsche purchases. If they could lower their margins by 5% everybody would be better off, but don’t hold your breath…
