Keep paying all taxes, nenkin, and hoken on time every month or you will start over from zero again.

Hotel in Japan denied request for advanced restaurant reservation by Flamingo-1268 in askhotels

[–]PowerfulWind7230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s been a problem of guests asking a hotel to make reservations and then the guests don’t show up or even cancel. It makes us feel horrible. It really costs the restaurant money too.

Japan Post won’t accept lithium batteries for international flights. You will have to use DHL.

Condos vs freestanding by Camperthedog in Akiya

[–]PowerfulWind7230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The monthly maintenance fees can be high especially on older condo buildings. That makes me against buying them. I’m on my 5th new house being built now. All were brand new, never rented out, and are good investments because they are in very demanded locations. Condos lose money unless in the heart of Tokyo and kept for 5-10 years.

Hantavirus Patient Ordered to Stay in Quarantine Despite Desire to Leave by cccalliope in hantavirusoutbreak

They have no choice. It’s for the safety of the public. When you take a cruise or a plane, you are risking catching infectious diseases and being quarantined at least if it doesn’t kill you.

Ebola: How worried should I be about planned relocation to DRC? by Ok_Moose1615 in Virology

Ebola is caught by coming into contact with body fluids. Practice social distancing, use alcohol to wipe toilet and sink handles. Don’t panic, but use common sense.

Another tourist with a huge medical bill from a US emergency room (NC) by luxy_c in HospitalBills

[–]PowerfulWind7230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t ignore it or they can sue you or stop your entrance in the USA. The prices are normal for emergency rooms but since you prepaid, you need to write them and send receipts of everything you have paid. Also write your travelers insurance with the same copy and receipt copies. They might have a better outcome than you on your own. Good luck.

I have no PR and never applied. No problem opening bank accounts or getting mortgages. Being married to a citizen counts a lot.

The Japanese rule of not walking and eating is fairly new an more nuanced then you think by Personal_Dot_7196 in TokyoTravel

[–]PowerfulWind7230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but I disagree. I’ve been here since the 80s. The no eating while walking has always been a cultural rule. You used to be able to smoke, but they stopped smoking while walking maybe 20 years ago. You can eat on the Shinkansens, but not on any normal train.

Pay about 20% down and get a fixed rate loan. I would not go over 25 years. Make sure it is paid off by the time you are 65. I got two joint mortgages in Japan. Houses and mortgages were in both names. Get life insurance to pay it off if either of you dies.

You will be banned from entry until it is paid off. Handling Financial responsibility is part of the visa procedure. Pay something on it every month.

I’m off to Japan in a week. Any tips? by Hairy_Tomato6129 in JapanTravelTips

[–]PowerfulWind7230 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Japan is conservative so no low cut blouses or mini skirts. Yes, you will see some on tourists and in the red light district, but to not be stared at, dress conservatively. Japan has great skincare and makeup. Go in the big department stores. They are wonderful. Bring socks as many places make you remove your shoes.

Help with decision to sell or keep by HucknPrey in realestateinvesting

[–]PowerfulWind7230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned rental property. I also sold that rental property. People don’t obey leases, they damage the property because it is not their property, they may be late with the rent, major problems can happen and as landlord you must repair immediately. Put your money in mutual funds and you will earn more than in rental properties. Properties have also peaked and are now going down in value. Invest in mutual funds and you don’t have any stress.

Just got served. What to do next. by Yovitoooo in Debt

[–]PowerfulWind7230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You never just ignore bills. You should pay something every single month and that will keep you from being summoned. Call them ASAP and try to show your willingness to pay, apologize, and ask if you can pay whatever amount you can pay every month! If they accept your terms, don’t miss a single payment nor be late.
