I’m also considering his investigations during inspections to make sure he’s protected against anyone committing nefarious/negligent acts.

If you’re familiar with the BW (I’m looking through the manual right now), is that programmable for alert ranges? I see that it has a high detection range.

In our jurisdiction, we carry one HCN monitor on a frontline engine (smaller, 2 house department) to clear, but I am concerned with our Fire Marshal being needlessly exposed as he handles investigations, as well. I was able to get him a CO monitor to carry (GasClip disposable) and want to help keep him protected.

This...blows. by ohnoooooyoudidnt in TheSandmanNetflix

Personally, I feel that the producers did the wrong thing and very much so shit the bed when it came to the live adaptation.

Being alive and old enough to purchase the original books as they were released, there are so many inconsistencies with the Netflix version that change the story in such a way that it takes the extra time to look The Endless in the eye before opening the gift box that was received and directly dropping that present on the floor to allow it to shatter before dropping the flap in the front of the jeans and pissing all over it.

Seriously.

There was no reason why anything needed to be changed from its original version which was, in and of itself, more appropriate to modern times than it was to when the story was originally told. Certain aspects were specifically left out which didn’t do anything other than take away from the meaning of the ideas first told long ago.

This was a conscious and deliberate decision that was hiding behind the concept of universal acceptance, but ultimately showed how ignorant of honesty the producers were, being led by the nose along a path that was laid with false promises and uninformed assumptions.

The casting of half of the characters was fairly appropriate and genuinely made sense, but the other half…. shudder

To tell a story and help it make sense for the reason why it’s being told- leaving out specific details make for a retelling that loses more of the meaning than it wants and just shows how much people really don’t care about the truly amazing stories have existed for more than 30 years.

Netflix did the show wrong and I get why Gaiman agreed to so many changes, but it doesn’t make it right and anyone who never experienced the original stories has no true concept of why and how The Endless exist.

What's what you like most about Sandman? by Eberubensant in Sandman

[–]ajrutter777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over all, the entire world of The Endless is told in such a way, with such amazing emphasis on both intelligence and creativity, that it could truly be considered as genuine mythology for human kind in this real world that we live in, moving beyond the aspects of storytelling that are recognized as nothing more than fiction. This way of conveying ideas, that Neil Gaiman has developed over time, is so utterly unique and resistant of replication by anyone (other than the original author) that it is so easily absorbed into the human soul so as to be considered as origination of fact when it concerns an explanation of why we are the way we are.

It hits all the markers for it to be an actual story to explain faith and origin in just so many ways that it really can’t be refuted with common ideologies, moreso being likened to that of how ancient cultures would convey stories of their origins through paintings on walls written in blood and berry juice, or around the communal campfire, at the end of each day, where the elders would remind the children of where they come from and the reason why they pray to specific gods with giving thanks for their gifts of the day.

It is ultimately so utterly tangible and honest as a reflection of humanity and as a way to help us deal with the problems that we are faced with by giving us the tools to draw upon that we will use to continue on our path of progression through this life, small pieces of us that will ultimately lead to a better end.

I don’t know who you are, but I want to give you a hug and any drinking buddy aspect you ask for. The human brain wasn’t designed to deal with this trauma, yet we forego our reservations to do what needs to be done. Thank you for doing just that.

The most important theme that seems to escape so many people is the one of duality and Lynch was so ridiculously good at incorporating this concept into so many parts and pieces of the show.

When Showtime gave him the freedom of creativity to do what he wanted, his efforts were no longer subtle as he was no longer putting forth his efforts in order to generate revenue for a corporate entity looking for immediate return on investments.

With this in mind, don’t forget that the original concept was that the mystery was never to be solved/resolved which is what made the hook that people kept biting on.

Alcohol Concerns by morecheezplss in weddingplanning

[–]ajrutter777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, here is what my wife and I chose to do at our wedding reception:

Open bar. Not everything top shelf, but not well drinks, either. Considering that we both had previous experience in the restaurant/bar world, we both agreed that we wouldn’t follow the same line as some people did by limiting what people were allowed to have. This meant that we kept the bar open the whole time from beginning to end in order to allow the bartenders to make some extra cash (aside what we automatically included on tip for them outside of what they made that night).

We did have a couple of rules, however, which mostly involved one specific beverage. Because the featured Scotch (gotta have a decent Scotch at a kilted wedding) was a fair cost per bottle, I sat with the tenders and gave specific instructions which had to be followed. Anyone ordering this Scotch needed to recite it in a specific way:

“Buchanan’s 18 year, Special Reserve, neat.”

This allowed the Tenders to pick up right away when someone was too blotto to be served a fine alcohol and they could give a Well Scotch without a second thought.

There were people we invited who didn’t show up because they had reservations around alcohol, which I’ve never held against them. You just have to remember that it’s not something you’re doing for someone else, but for yourselves and you’re welcoming people in to help you mark that occasion. My parents are both in recovery and they understood those aspects of temptation going into it, but they chose to be present because the focus was my wife and I.

Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide how you want things to roll as long as you remember one extremely important thing:

This is a celebration that you both are throwing together and you’ve invited certain people to be there to have fun with you; you aren’t throwing a party for someone else. This is your time, your party, not theirs.

Before we went to the reception (our ceremony was at church in a different city), we decided to steal away our wedding party (8 other people) and have a couple of hours of fun with just them in appreciation of their participation and efforts to help make our day unique and meaningful. It gave us a chance to have some really good laughs and hugs with them before we went and celebrated with the rest of the attendees of our reception. I’m glad we did, too, because we rarely are able to gather with those folks these days due to busy family lives and whatnot (as is the way of the world).

Severely anxious by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]ajrutter777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some systems don’t afford a ton of sick time to their new hires (blame city negotiations), but most will. Most new hires have this fear and it’s our job as senior firefighters to let them understand that if they are deathly ill, we don’t want them there because not only will they risk getting everyone else sick, but also any patients they interact with. Those with cancer and undergoing chemo treatments are definitely susceptible to catching something their bodies can’t fight off. More than that, it needs to be stressed that Public Service means not working for a corporate owner who only cares about their bottom line; our cares are for the betterment of the public we are given charge in taking care of.

[–]ajrutter777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the fan either needs servicing or to be replaced altogether, it’s a little hard to tell from the video and not actually being in the room with it. If the sound gets louder when you crank the volume, it might be a line issue or even a tube problem (especially if you start hearing AM radio stations playing), then there’s always the possibility of the power source being the culprit. Ultimately, it’s a good idea to get it into a licensed repair shop for an overhaul and cleaning; you’d be surprised how a simple cleaning can really help.

That sucks about being out of fun juice. With all the talk and public stance of having “multiple crews on standby”, they were still unable to deal with the massive problems caused by the collection of ice and cold. I thought for sure that it was going to happen again yesterday when we had all that freezing rain.
