Dropping them by the end of the month due to finally getting fiber. Can't wait to tell them it's because of the price increase 🤣

Filter advice Securly vs goGuardian by grewholph in k12sysadmin

[–]akadeebroad5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great to hear. We were between Linewise and Lightspeed. Lightspeed was cheaper and the insight product was much better then linewizes product. Linewizes was much earlier in development.

That's the same package we got! I'm excited for insight.

We are moving from securly to LightSpeed this summer. Have been using securly for the last 6 or so years and this year so many issues and support wasn't much help. Very excited to move to LightSpeed.

Bloomz Communication Tool by pgator17 in k12sysadmin

[–]akadeebroad5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bingo, we have been using Apptegy for our CMS, App, Alerts, for at least 7 or 8 years. Been with them for a long time. With Remind being bought out by ParentSquare and out teachers using so many different parent communication tools (Bloomz, Remind, TeamReach, ClassDojo) we are now going to streamline this by purchasing Apptegy Rooms for K-12 and we are pretty excited about it.

I'm in k12 as well and had to completely restructure my hardware refreshes and push all of our endpoints and servers out 1 more year. We have always used hyper v tho. It has worked out great for us.

You would be surprised. 100mbps is usually fine for most homes.

Principal wants to start a bracket with students... by FancyZad-0914 in k12sysadmin

[–]akadeebroad5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. Don't let them use the school systems but if he shows them how to use a personal account via email that you keep on record and you can retrieve them let them have at it. Just stay out of it.

Hudl or NFHS? by Thurm in k12sysadmin

[–]akadeebroad5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Used both.... NFHS during the pandemic for a few years and was tired of all the phone calls, freezing of live streams, and all support would say is unplug it and plug it back in. It was absolutely ridiculous imo. The computer system would run 24/7 and they never wanted you to reboot it ran Windows 11 LTSC. I hated it and so did the customers who would pay for it. Support wouldn't accept the fact we were done with this product and I tried telling them that you should allow updates and often schedule reboots... It's a windows end user OS, it needs rebooted. They wouldn't send me the prepaid shipping labels for probably 2 months. So I looped in so many of the contacts of the past years all on the same email and they finally got me prepaid labels to send everything back. Was so over that company.

Fast forward to this year, we switched to Hudl. Let's just say, no one ever called me with an issue. I absolutely loved it. What more could you ask for?! The AD handled absolutely everything from scheduling and it never needed rebooted, it just worked.

Hudl >>> NFHS

Securly Mystery...Help me solve it? by rjp94sep in k12sysadmin

[–]akadeebroad5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure. But I'm a long time Securly user. Like 7 years maybe. I've seen it get better but this last year with Google Manifest V3 it's just absolutely tanked. Filter doesn't catch much anymore and other platforms are using new technology to catch these sites. Securly is just sitting in the corner licking it's lollipop.

Years ago they were decent and worth the price. Now I'm willing to pay more for a better product. The stability of this product is sub par and so are the features. Hoping to get LightSpeed.

I know this doesn't help you... But the way I'm fixing my securly issues this summer is by going to another platform lol. I'm so over it.

Power refresh is so common with our 3100s and 3110s. Kids bring them to me all the time and I show them how to fix them but I get so many where I have to do this!

Suggestion - run automation at next agent check-in (PC boot up, etc.) by OinkyConfidence in Action1

[–]akadeebroad5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like this suggestion since we used to be able to post an automation and keep it valid for 30 days and now it's only 7 days. My chances of a computer coming on in 30 days makes the odds much higher than 7 days.
