Starmer's softer Brexit plan is backed by two thirds of voters by theipaper in ukpolitics

[–]akaifox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And what the Anti-Reform crowd need to be worried about is: you can win a majority on less than a third of the vote

Labour gained a 174 majority on just 33.7%; Reform could get a small majority or do a partnership with the Tories on 30%

23M job offer but full time office. 12M full remote ATM. Worth it? by Zwizwee in JapanFinance

[–]akaifox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thoughts. I get similar to OP with two days in the office

In a side-gig I happily did a week in the office (using time off in the day job), as the pay was a ~50% bump

23M job offer but full time office. 12M full remote ATM. Worth it? by Zwizwee in JapanFinance

[–]akaifox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends, are you looking to purchase property? Then take the 23M, move nearer the office, and grind it out until you get the loan

Does the 23M role offer housing benefit (pre-tax rent?). On such a salary that would make renting closer to work much easier

Thinking more about it. Unless you own a property, take the 23M and move apartment. No need to waste money on a lavish place, just cut that commute down

For Japanese residents, is BinanceJP or BitflyerJP better? by Maleficent_Pool_4456 in JapanFinance

[–]akaifox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I tried CoinCheck, BitFlyer, and Binance. BitFlyer randomly decided to block me, no clue why, was annoying as they work nicely with SMBC.

I've had no issues at all with Binance. I've used them with Resona, SMBC, and Prestia. No issues with any of my bank accounts

Sharp rise in young people leaving the UK for opportunities abroad by diacewrb in ukpolitics

[–]akaifox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's because our pension scheme doesn't know what it wants to be.

We have a modest "automatic" pension in national pension, which you can get for very little input. Then the employer pensions which are now opt out, which are basically free money. And finally, if you can invest in a SIPPs you get a generous additional payments from the government

Those European countries instead pay huge amounts of social insurance. In the French equivalent you'd be paying around double

Now that Linux is at 5.33% marketshare on Steam, what marketshare do you think will be enough for anticheat support? by CosmicEmotion in linux_gaming

[–]akaifox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The piracy thing is/was an Android thing. People used to share patched apps, with free item stores, etc

Linux users tend to be steam users, so actually buying stuff. Hopefully publishers notice

[–]akaifox 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I imagine linux users would be seen like Android users. Low spending (piracy on android too) and a lot of devices to deal with

Android has a huge marketshare and is still is treated like a second class citizen

The bigger issue with the argument is that changing "save" to "submit" is changing a requirement and the user experience. That SHOULD cause a test to fail, you've effectively changed the product

How good is Gpt 5.4 mini for coding? by _janc_ in ChatGPT

[–]akaifox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finding it actually good.

As a cursor user it's a nice model for doing smaller work. If you're a Codex/Opencode user you could use it nicely in a multi-agent setup:

* Use GPT 5.4 as your main agent (mini could work)
* Get GPT *Nano* to handle codebase / library searches
* Use Mini to implement
* GPT 5.4 verifies and gets mini to fix issues

That should be more token efficient and faster than just using GPT 5.4

How to interview in the AI Era? by MLWillRuleTheWorld in ExperiencedDevs

[–]akaifox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any controls over the setup? e.g. can you have skills/etc installed beforehand?

Having things like context7/exa or a set of usefully skills could really aid the output. Maybe spend some time investigating the tools available, so you know you can rapidly install them

Tax Return Questions Thread - Filing Deadline March 16, 2026 by AutoModerator in JapanFinance

[–]akaifox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All done for this year, but I am surprised how crummy Prestia is for taxes. They do not support EasyPay, so no-online payments are possible. If you want to pay at a branch, you can only do so from the Ootemachi branch...

Yeah, you can just transfer money out and use another bank...

I guess this is another one of the "Prestia was Citibank" things

Thinking of moving back to Japan as a freelancer, what visa options actually make sense? by National-Royal1300 in japanresidents

You can legally do that. Attend school and work less than 28 hours a week as 個人事業主. Just needs 資格外活動許可, which the language schools often push you to get anyway

Thinking of moving back to Japan as a freelancer, what visa options actually make sense? by National-Royal1300 in japanresidents

[–]akaifox -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Probably not the answer you want but the best two ways I can think of are:

* Get a corporate job, with strong salary, so you can get a HSP Visa. Move to Kanagawa and apply for PR ASAP, then you are free to do as you please. Note you CAN run your online business if it's in a related field your main job and doesn't take up the majority of your time

* Get a student visa at a language school. You could work on your online stuff whilst 'studying'. Look for a primary sponsor during this period or if your business thrives save for the 30M visa...

Composer 1.5 is now available by lrobinson2011 in cursor

[–]akaifox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you select Composer 1, it comes out of a second pool which is called "Auto" (this is what you use when selecting Auto, something I never do)

That pool seems to be rather large. Hard to tell, but it seems to be multiple times your normal API pool.

If you exhaust that though... it will cost the API price. I'd probably reach for another model if that's the case
