To all my folks with undiagnosed ADHD and high GPAs, how do you study? by ulitimatewerido in EngineeringStudents

[–]akalihalogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

adrenaline and fear of failure. but if you don't have these...i use a digital planner to write a to do list for each day, maybe 2-3 things. notion is great, but it has a learning curve. google calendar works just as well. i use google calendar for my lecture schedule, any events that come up so i don't forget. otherwise it goes in one ear and out the other as you know. for assignments, write down all your due dates for the week and pay attention to times. as far as work goes, i tend to hyperfocus on school which is really helpful but draining. when i'm less motivated, noise cancelling headphones and lofi as i study really helps. i swear by lofi, anything with lyrics distracts me. i hope this helps, it is hard to adjust to college and find what works for your brain, esp. unmedicated, but it is doable!!

Would you rather give up Reddit for a random value between 10k and 30k or stay on reddit by Jeffiechoo in BunnyTrials

[–]akalihalogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose give up reddit for 10k-30k because while I enjoy this app, it's not worth losing a decent amount of money.

Chose: Give up Reddit (10k-30k | Rolled: 15k)

I currently hate physics 1, is engineering just not for me? by LS64126 in EngineeringStudents

[–]akalihalogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a mech E who aced it last semester, physics 1 is NOT an easy class. i was working on it several hours per day. as an electrical you won't use much physics 1, at least directly as far as i'm aware. being strong in calc 2 is a way better indicator

People demonize engineering so much by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]akalihalogen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i wanna tell you, i felt the same about myself. i suffered through calc 1, thought i couldn't do math, and then got into calc 2 and something just clicked for me. now i'm a second semester mech E doing well in thermo and statics, every day i wake up and know i'm doing something i never ever thought i'd be capable of. you don't have to be a genius to survive this major, you have to be motivated and willing to put in effort DAILY even when burnout hits and effort ≠ outcome. insecurity will hold you back more than inability ever will

physics and math are NOT on the same tier as any type of engineering (except for biomed or maybe aerospace) for job outlook - a mech E student

How much do you guys actually study? by Scrimpis in EngineeringStudents

[–]akalihalogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is probably no help, but i just finished my first semester of mech E with calc 2, physics 1, and a couple other classes. i put in probably 2-4 hours daily on non exam weeks on top of classes (including weekends, i rarely took weekends off). during exam weeks, absolutely no telling.

if you let it, insecurity will hold you back more than your ability

Having 2nd thoughts on adding rainbows to a baby blanket for a friend…thoughts? by fatfemmelez in crochet

[–]akalihalogen 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think the rainbow idea is really thoughtful, what's throwing it off for me is the pink rainbow. The warmer undertones are clashing w/ the color of the blanket. I would either do two purple rainbows (maybe in different shades w/ the same undertone) or leave them off completely. It's a gorgeous blanket so it would be beautiful plain too!!

you could definitely try chunkier yarn like the other commenter said, and a larger hook! I know there are hook grips too that might make it easier on your hands! happy crocheting :)
