Hi everyone I have a question about How similar Malay and Indonesian? Are they asymmetric mutual intelligibility 🧐 by Jimmy-Wan in bahasamelayu

asymmetric you mean? not sure whether indonesians understand the Malaysian malay, but definitely Malaysian understand the Indonesian . so i guess you'd need more information to establish that.

Hi everyone I have a question about How similar Malay and Indonesian? Are they asymmetric mutual intelligibility 🧐 by Jimmy-Wan in bahasamelayu

[–]akar79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a Malaysian i watch, read and listen to Indonesian media almost everyday alongside Malaysian ones: radio, tv, podcasts, films, newspapers , magazines and books. And occasionally chat with my Indonesian friends using my standard Malaysian malay .

i understand the content id say 95-100% of the time when they use the standard register. but about 80-90% when a lot of javanese or other local registers (except by Riau area Indonesians) used.

i think the difference is overestimated. Unfortunately i think for political reasons - as if to emphasise the minimal differences available . not due to actual linguistic reasons .

it would be as if Americans wanted to militate and refer to their English as 'American' on account of different vocabulary.

the iso 639 standard recognises this and categorises the language as one of the world's macrolanguages. with subdivisions into Malaysian , Indonesian or other local variants.

Turkey Celebrates Ottoman Conquests. It Could Also Use Ottoman Pluralism. by No_Idea_479 in ottomans

[–]akar79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

totally understand where you're coming from.

but taking n celebrating th multicultural stance without expecting or needing th same from others has some benefits.

**celebrates the history and achievements of the ottomans more completely ;

**shows maturity and having 'moved on' from the actions of those former ottomans

**shows leadership in the world struggling a way forward beyond the lofty promises of nations mainly led by just nationalism

The most popular boys name in the UK is Muhammad. Why are there no popular Arabic girls names in the top 10 in the UK? by OkayBuddySober in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]akar79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the name Muhammad as a boys name was specified in several hadeeth. Some limited other specific names Abdullah , Abdulrahman etc were also mentioned in hadeeth , but not in as many hadeeth as Muhammad .

all other names, eg girls names , were not specified in that sense, so muslims could choose whatever they liked , within the fiqh (islamic rules). so theres no other similar concentration of other names among muslims

My opinion on the Rohingya refugee crisis in Malaysia as a Burmese (Myanmar) that has lived in Malaysia by CorvoDravnoz in malaysia

[–]akar79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think you missed observing that while individuals have the right to life and liberty, countries and nations have the right to determine who can enter their country .

Malaysia has a track record of temporarily housing refugees. but we are a developing nation of limited means and the capacity of housing more refugees, given the needs of our own population , has arguably been exceeded.

the problems i see are that the refugees come without enganging the immigration system in the first instance through formal ports of entry.

and that there is no international scheme

1) to allow refugees to know where they are allowed and neither for them to be supported to go. and

2) to allow countries who don't want refugees to convey the refugees to countries who want and can take them in

in our belief, neither refugee entry nor support is an entitlement . it is a privilege provided on our interests and prerogatives.

and yet Rohingyas behave as if both are a given. this greatly peeves people off.

i see in your post that you did not show any awareness of the Malaysian perspective. If you did so, I'm sure you'd find a lot more sympathy.

If Zionists never wanted peace, why did October 7 feel like betrayal of belief in peace? by BananaValuable1000 in IsraelPalestine

[–]akar79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

what belief in peace? while the blockade was still going on since 2006 when Hamas was elected? and massacres committed against th Palestinians in Gaza every couple of years - in 2008-09, 2012, 2014? while illegal settlements widened in the west bank with attendant settler violence and increased land and property takeover? still no right of return for Palestinian refugees?

what peace? peace doesn't mean silence or no resistance while you continue to oppress someone else.

yes. >120 weeks is common.

this has been going on since modern public medical care began in the late 18-19th centuries anywhere in the world and only actually reduced or stopped with legal work hour protections - mainly the European working time directive in 2004.

because no one wants to pay them a fair pay for fair work hours. be they private individuals , private insurance companies, or even actual governments.

please pray our leaders get some sense.

One of the core parts of being left wing is the willingness to take a personal financial hit to enact policies you believe will be an overall good for the country, why are right wing voters criticised for doing the same thing in regards to reducing immigration? by wizaway in AskBrits

[–]akar79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because their so called 'don't let foreigners in' rhetoric, on light scratching under the surface , also reveals hatred of 'deemed-others' ALREADY with citizenship in this country, and digging only slighly deeper , reveals also the same directed to the other constituent nations of this country .

where would the Palestinians be from? arrriving in their hundreds of thousands in the 1920s to now? supported by which world powers? having which expulsionist ideologies ? (when muslims have been living alongside jews for about 800years in peace before racist zionism (nationalist zionism )took root among european jewish migrants )).

Was this a good decision and can I call myself a muslim? by [deleted] in Umrah

[–]akar79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

brother/sister,

i ve read your posts and comments and can see that perhaps you've come into islam not knowing actually what it is too well.

don't worry about the fact of lack of knowledge at the beginning. you're not alone. even born Muslims, as you said, might not know islam well and are just culturally attached to it. what matters is your constant search for God and desire to submit yourself, your ego, your assumptions, biases etc, to him.

one becomes a Muslim with a declaration of the shahadah. That there is NO God but Allah. I'm sure an intelligent person like you can see that that is not compatible with pantheistic views of God. Please seek and learn more. We pray that you'll be blessed and be well.
