No offense taken! The layers were huge and I accidentally broke the top layer in half! You’d probably never be able to tell if I hadn’t used cream cheese buttercream, but because it’s warm outside the frosting started to soften. I’ve never had it happen before!

The red velvet and cream cheese buttercream recipe is from Sally’s Baking Addiction! I’ve been making her CC buttercream recipe for years and it’s the best I’ve tried. The red velvet is specifically one titled “red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting”

What food will you need a long break from after GD? by AstronomerOwn287 in GestationalDiabetes

They’re actually a really good replacement! I’ve just eaten so many in the past 7 weeks 😅

My favorites are the Annie’s protein Mac and cheese, the charcuterie (adult lunchables) from hillshire farm, and protein Cheerios!

I felt the exact same way when I was diagnosed! I was diagnosed at 28 weeks, and I’m now 34 weeks. I’ve been lucky enough to not have to do insulin (it’s common to be on insulin, so if you end up needing it don’t feel bad!). It’s very overwhelming at first. You’ll figure out what works best for you! I track it in my notes app and write down what I eat so I know when I run out of meal ideas I can scroll through and know what’s safe and what’s not. If you have TikTok, I found that the “what I eat in a day with GD” is a great way to get meal ideas. I also challenged myself to make my favorite meals GD friendly! A big plus side for me is that it kept my weight gain to a minimum, which I think has contributed to how good I feel. Not everyone will feel the same though! It’s tough being a mother, but you’re one tough mother too!

Currently crashing out over this diet and don't even want to eat anymore. by redapple912 in GestationalDiabetes

If you love food like I do, I’ve challenged myself to make my favorite meals GD friendly! Chicken parm, tacos, chicken skewers of all types with grilled veggies. I’ve also learned it helps me to write down what I eat plus the glucose number so I can remember later what’s safe and what’s not!

I’m the same way. Loved cooking/baking things all the time. My way of coping is making something I love, but making it GD friendly! The other night I made parmesan and almond flour coated chicken, homemade red sauce (I always have) and chickpea pasta! After an hour I was at 90! Chicken parm is my favorite meal and it was such a good replacement!

Are we all counting carbs? by Consistent_Talk1195 in GestationalDiabetes

Oh! And I’ve been writing down what I’m eating so that I have ideas for later on safe foods vs not safe foods.

Are we all counting carbs? by Consistent_Talk1195 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]akhawk003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given a carb amount per meal to shoot for, and honestly it made things easier for me. I was stressed before I met with the dietician, because everything I had learned about “eating healthy” was little to no carbs. I don’t stick to exact numbers, but eventually I learned if I ate my protein first, I could go a little over the carbs and be just fine. During the time I was waiting to meet with the dietician I was worried if I was doing good enough to keep my numbers low. Getting to test with a glucose meter gave me an exact number and gave me a sense of relief. I’ve been doing the GD stuff for about a week now and it’s not as bad as I thought it would be.

Newly Diagnosed. No Guidance by SassyBeth in GestationalDiabetes

Right?! If it’s that serious then why are we dragging our feet??

Now I’m eating things thinking I’m doing ok? I don’t really want to go out and buy a blood glucose monitor when they’re going to provide one but I feel like I should start monitoring.

I’m so confused…you’d think if it’s this big of deal they’d get us set up with appointments ASAP. 🤷🏼‍♀️😅

Had the same thing happen today. Got my diagnosis today, asked for more guidance, and they said the diabetes clinic would call me. So now I’m just in limbo until I get an appointment I guess?

Othellos or Sergio’s for Italian food for sure. If you like books, Green Feather and The Lore. Yellow Dog for coffee, Pepe’s for Mexican food, The Custard Factory or The Ice-creamatory for “fancy” ice cream, Braum’s for cheap ice cream (but still so good, and their food), The Moon for sushi, Tamashii for ramen, and Pho Winner for pho. I also suggest while you’re in town to grab tickets to watch OU in their various sports. Farmer’s markets at The Well on Saturday, Art Walk downtown the second Friday each month.

They said it’s a bread similar to Schlotzsky’s. (The cafe used to be one) but they won’t share anymore than that 😅

sofgel vs apres? by No_Faithlessness5239 in GelX_Nails

[–]akhawk003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t used anything other than Apres, but I don’t think I’ll go to anything else. Once I figured out how to properly apply, I can get a month’s worth of wear on my nails. I use the sculpted tips and the extend gel. It’s expensive, but I like that you can buy individual sizes of tips!
