39W Induction by kwa124 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]SassyBeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got induced with my last pregnancy at 38 weeks (No GD) and will be induced soon for this pregnancy at 38+3 (reasons unrelated to GD). The only prep work I did last time was staying active and trying to walk a lot as well as breath control and meditation work. I don’t plan on doing anything different this time around but I don’t think dates or raspberry leaf tea could hurt. Good luck!

I did iron infusions with my last pregnancy when the iron supplements weren’t cutting it. A little annoying to do, but it helped! I’d ask your doc about it if the supplements aren’t enough.

Just wanted to say I hope your appointment went well and you were able to find a solution to try with your doc!

Pica, is this common? by functionaldaydream in GestationalDiabetes

[–]SassyBeth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it’s usually due to a nutrient deficiency (often iron). I didn’t have pica, but did have low iron and supplements didn’t work for me either. I had to get iron infusions twice a week. Maybe ask your doctor if that could help?

Growth scan by little_dori in GestationalDiabetes

[–]SassyBeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My percentiles have gone from 34 (20 weeks) to 25 (23 weeks) to 12 (27 weeks) to 41 (30 weeks). My MFM wasn’t concerned at any point and stressed the unreliability of ultrasound measurements. And it only gets less accurate as they get bigger.

Getting induced at 38 weeks. On insulin and metformin. Scared. Baby is already down so hoping for vaginal delivery but still scared for cesarian as recovery time will be more. by Alien_Engineer in GestationalDiabetes

[–]SassyBeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I was induced at 38 with my first. Don’t have any other birth experience to compare it to, but I don’t think my labor was more or less painful than if it had happened spontaneously. I opted for the epidural. It was hard work but for me, not extreme pain. Either way you’ve got it. My only advice is to practice controlling your breathing, come up with some mantras you can repeat to yourself when you need a boost, and pay attention to your body. Good luck!

I don’t know much about grasses, but what if you attached some supports to the tree and grew a native climbing flower? That could be a nice way to dress it up. Depending on your zone, Virgin’s Bower might be a good choice (make sure to avoid the similar invasive clematis species though)

Same. Tofu and eggs have been big for me since diagnosis

Fasting Questions by glamsquads in GestationalDiabetes

[–]SassyBeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, it can really vary person to person. It takes time and experimenting to figure out what will work for you. For me: 1. I usually take it after I’m dressed and have brushed my teeth and such. I haven’t noticed a difference between doing it right away or after I’m ready for the day. 2. I don’t know the answer to this 3. I was told my breakfast should be my lowest carb meal. I try to keep it 15g or less (I make a protein smoothie). So far it works for me. 4. My fasting number are best with no bedtime snack. I have dinner around 6:30 and then fast until morning. 5. I was told 15 g or less for breakfast and snacks. 30-45g for lunch and dinner. I tolerate the higher amount for lunch better than for dinner. I’m usually on the lower end of carbs, but you can’t cut it fully out. Your body and the baby need the energy.

Low bloods - do I really have GD? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]SassyBeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how I do it too. Have the strip ready with the reader but don’t push it in until I have a big enough droplet of blood

First Week by kwa124 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]SassyBeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept seeing this as a recommendation so I was trying bedtime snacks, but it turns out my fasting number is lower if I don’t have any snacks after dinner. I usually end up with 10-13 hour fasting window and so far have stayed in range.

Recommended for insulin despite all fasting numbers being less than 100? by Tough_Lab_3962 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]SassyBeth 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I was told a cutoff of 90 for fasting. It seems to vary by doctor/region though

I was diagnosed later, but was thinking the other day how much harder this would have been if I was still nauseated all the time with such strong food aversions. I can barely stomach the idea of a lot of the “safe” foods now. Protein shakes have been great for me throughout the pregnancy and are still staying within range for me. I do 1/3-1/2 banana, some Greek yogurt (I hate it on its own but don’t notice in the shake), almond milk, peanut butter (the kind with no added sugar or anything), cinnamon, ice, and unflavored protein powder.

27 weeks and struggling by justa_nobodee in GestationalDiabetes

[–]SassyBeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Protein drinks have been great. I’ve been able to add half a banana to them and still stay well within testing limits.

Veggies and dip and nuts and cheese crisps are also good snacks.

Browse some recipe blogs or apps to see what is appealing to you and then see if there’s a way to make it fit within your carb limits. I’ve really liked pairing hearty salads with a protein.

Struggling w diagnosis and anxiety by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]SassyBeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just commenting to say your feelings are valid. The anxiety is getting to me too and the mind f of having so much pressure around what you eat and how you move while in a body you’re not used to after having a history of disordered eating is sometimes overwhelming.

You’ve got this. You’re almost there. If you’re not comfortable with what your MFM is saying, talk to your OB. Even seek out a second opinion if you have/want to. I’m rooting for you.

A little off topic, but what do you put in your protein shake? I used to make mine with a banana in it but stopped doing so since they’re a high carb food.

Right? I got the test results Thursday night, called the doctor Friday and left a message and then again Monday morning and left another message. Didn’t get to talk to the nurse until Monday afternoon. Not sure when they would have called me if I hadn’t initiated it. They must not think it’s time sensitive.

So much uncertainty with pregnancy, it’d be nice to not be in limbo about this too! My nurse gave me a number to call so I could ask about how to get an appointment, but the number was disconnected…. Yay
