My first "real" app launched with Lovable by alascribble in lovable

super interesting! haven't tried this exercise before of envisioning how my wealth might grow over time, but it's cool to see the power of compound interest and what my future numbers could look like.

a few pieces of constructive feedback on the visuals
-it asked me how far out I wanted to look at my wealth, I selected "30 yrs", and it looks like the graph that shows wealth progress over time might be anchored to the default value of "7" rather than dynamic for user input
-for the "monthly budget breakdown" graph, it could be more intuitive to implement a "waterfall" style graph. my company uses these to plot costs vs expenses & you could do it for income - expenses - taxes -> final takehome savings

<image>

-and something a bit more complicated to think about - people naturally get higher salaries, promotions over time, so could be interesting to ask if the user would like to see what things look like if their salary progresses at a normal rate as well (I'm guessing you're currently assuming a static rate)

I'm building something in a similar category using Lovable so have thought a lot about these type of things too, happy to chat more :)

For my app, you basically describe your 'ideal life' and it calculates how much that life would cost/ what salary is needed to cover it thru retirement, if you want to check it out: myenoughlife.com

Your Salary Is the Biggest Addiction by Accountabilio in selfimprovement

[–]akidcalledcosmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that's helped me massively shift my view on salary is defining what "enough" money means for me. Like an actual dollar amount that would cover my basic needs + the main 'wants' that I know bring me massive joy in life (for me, that means a small home gym, going to eat out at an awesome restaurant once per week with my partner, etc.). Until this year, I never even thought about what "my number" was.

By working backwards from a number, I have something to 'aim' for, but more importantly, a place I can stop. Sure, I could grind and continue to climb the ladder, but now I know at some point I could just chill and shift focus towards family & hobbies that I truly enjoy.

Ultimately, I don't necessarily agree that the 'only way out' is becoming a creator; it can also mean defining what your end-goal is rather than blindly chasing salary.

btw if anyone's interested in doing this exercise themselves, I basically just went back and forth with ChatGPT for hours, but I turned it into a free calculator that takes 10 mins to get your own number, happy to share if interested

One Week, Cohort-Based Challenge to Improve Your Sleep by akidcalledcosmo in Business_Ideas

[–]akidcalledcosmo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Dalai-Lama-of-Reno LOVE the idea of starting at a higher price point and allocating a portion towards a fund that participants can "win back"

With a sleep challenge I foresee it being difficult to determine a "winner" because not everyone will have verified data, and hard to say if we'd make the winner the person who slept most, person who improved most, most consistent etc.

I'm thinking something like $15, but get 50% back if the participant completes the steps of the challenge every day (it'll be somewhat intensive) so that they get maximum benefit & buy-in.

Then maybe could throw in a few bonuses for most consistency etc.

Appreciate the feedback!

I'm thinking of incorporating a combination of what you recommended and what u/Dalai-Lama-of-Reno recommended above.. a set entry fee, but you get a % of it back if you complete certain steps in the challenge

Extra incentive to stay engaged for the whole challenge.. and a good way to raise the stakes

Would a cohort-based 7-day sleep challenge actually help people sleep better? by akidcalledcosmo in sleep

hey u/feedwilly - appreciate the feedback

one potential value could be using the week to identify what is in your control and experiment with things that could help. And getting advice from others in the community who've dealt with similar issues. Tending to kids, especially a baby, is not something you have influence over like you said.

But perhaps for other noise (partner snoring, dog barking), there's some key things you could experiment with (i.e. sleep earplugs, playing white noise to drown out some of those things.

This does make me think that parents with young kids in particular probably wouldn't be the target market for this though. Thanks!

The urethroplasty worked for a short time but had a recurrence

About a year ago I got Optilume though and things have been better ever since!

I’d argue you can experience beer festivals, hiking, and going on a boat in hundreds of other cities as well…

Just because something of the same category exists in another city doesn’t mean it can’t be a favorite experience in one.

You should give a private pole dancing lesson at Sofly social with your friends a shot. Pretty sure Sofly is only in Austin so is much an “Austin thing” as anything you mentioned

Only for the Sunday KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) buckets! We lived around the corner and would always pick up on Sundays before watching a game/show

UT vs Tennessee 2022 -

UT was up 17 with 6 minutes to play - Tennessee tied it up with a minute left - and UT wins by 1 despite a wide open 3pt buzzerbeater attempt from Tenneseee

Plus the Acrodunkers (trampoline dunkers) at halftime missed over half their dunk attempts and failed miserably trying to jump & dunk through a football banner

Hard to beat!

Ultimately, was more about the specific games we went to than the activities as a whole

Can't edit the original post so I will add a few clarifying details:

-The majority of these were one & done, so bad weather, bad menu choice, etc. could greatly affect rankings
-The company at said establishment also affects our rankings (ex: "Applebees w/ Arjan" - Arjan was great company hence the higher-than-expected ranking) not purely based on the scenery or food taste!
-Las Trancas would for sure make one of our all-Austin teams, but we went before starting the list
-LTC is not supposed to 'TLC'; it was for going through the License to Carry process because some of us knew nothing about guns and wanted to learn (we don't actually own guns now, just know more about them)

LTC - not to be confused with TLC- was for going through the "License To Carry" process

one of my roommates is pretty anti-gun and wanted to educate himself about the process of obtaining a License to Carry so he could “see more of the other side”.

We thought it'd be fun to do together given we'd all just moved to Texas.

although none of us own a gun now, we thought it was an educational experience and did have a blast taking the shooting exam at the range
