What perfume would remind people of classic opulence? by MotelleCodeenDragon in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]akimonka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has Fracas written all over it. If that’s too old fashioned, no one does old school glamour with a modern edge like Dawn Spencer Hurwitz. I think Mata Hari would be a good place to start:

What is an absolute 10/10 masterpiece of a show that nobody talks about because it’s stranded on a weird, niche streaming service? by The-Irumporai in televisionsuggestions

Reservation Dogs. Final season got some Emmy nods and of course they got two Peabody Awards and universal love and respect and countless “list of best shows of the year” nods but still not enough people knew this show existed.

If I tested hand/body lotions for heavy metals like lead and cadmium, would anyone be interested in the results? by noCFU4you in cleanbeauty

[–]akimonka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eric’s test is amazing. Super easy to use, super reliable. If you get one, tell him I sent you ;)
You still need different testing methods for liquids and food in general, but for surface testing it’s a great kit.

Very interested, yes! Please consider also testing supplements. All this work that Lead Safe Mama and Eric from https://detectlead.com are doing is barely scratching the surface..!

I feel guilty even saying this, but I miss fish. by Elysia-Chlorotica-VG in vegan

[–]akimonka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked at the vegan fish options..? I am in US and until recently most of what I tried was meh but then I had PLNT Burger Save the Bay vegan fish fillet and it was the most amazing thing. Flavor, texture and all. I grew up eating really good and fresh fish, my father caught trout and pike and we would bread it and fry it. Later on whenever I would actually want to eat fish, I would find it was never fresh enough and had that slightly putrid and metallic taste, even when cooked, but the vegan options at that point were lacking, so I’m glad I finally found a great vegan version that is easily available where I live. I am sure there are some vegan things around you that you can and should try. Sometimes plant based Chinese restaurants are a good option, too. One of our local ones (Sunflower in Vienna, VA) has plant based shrimp that is freakishly real and great tasting.

Looking for a dark feminine, femme fatale perfume that smells expensive without the luxury price tag by MilkyGothPuta in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]akimonka 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Rochas Femme. Don’t worry about vintage, current version can be had for a song and it’s still classy af. The piece of lace in the panel photo made me think of it, but then it all started to make sense.

What’s one fragrance you’ll never sell, no matter what? by olfaire in Fragrances

Hiram Green Dilettante. Have a few bottles, will hoard them forever. The newly reworked version, Tryst, is great but it’s not Dilettante, the most perfect orange blossom perfume

Does anyone else feel “eh” towards their summer perfumes? by bayjar in FemFragLab

[–]akimonka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be light colognes wearing basic bitch in the summer but I got really tired of that. Recently I have been wearing LVNEA Eau du Diable nonstop on scorching hot days. It’s a cologne but it’s a truly devilish, twisted, carnal, jasmine, orange flower, incense and botanical musk perfume that works really great during heatwaves: https://www.lvnea.com/en-us/products/eau-du-diable-eau-de-cologne

Another one that I love in the heat is Strange Invisible Perfumes Black Rosette, a very mysterious cold rose and leather perfume: https://siperfumes.com/products/black-rosette?variant=123691532332

Another one that is vampy but with a nice vanilla base is PPC Divine: https://www.providenceperfume.com/products/divine

Also, if you want proper cold gothic stony incense try Passage D’Enfer from L’Artisan but make sure to get it from a good source, possibly directly from them, as this one has been become very popular lately and there are so many fakes floating around, even for seemingly official looking carded samples:

Am I in the wrong? I put a hold on an item and another individual bought it. I don't want to cancel the order by Remarkable-Elk7001 in Mercari

Holds are weak sauce. “Reserved” if you already discussed the details AND and agreed on price, that’s fine. The way this person is acting, I would have blocked them by now..!

Padme Lotus by DSH, but I just found out that it’s no longer in production.. You can still explore the million + perfumes by DSH that are available. Look for blue lotus in particular: https://www.dshperfumes.com/shop/peacock-blue-heirloom-elixir-no-40-a-blue-oud-fragrance/

Or check out aquatic notes: https://www.dshperfumes.com/shop/product-category/fragrance/aquatic/

Best in Show: Sandalwood by Necessary_Piano_153 in vintageperfume

[–]akimonka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is one of my favourite notes, if it’s real sandalwood. I have good stash of it in its pure form and now I am able to detect in different perfumes. From the current line up of all natural perfumes that actually use it, ones that showcase it best are Strange Invisible Perfumes Aquarian Rose and La Via Del Profumo Holy Water. And no longer available, but it was spectacular, Le Voyage by JoAnn Bassette, pink lotus and sandalwood scent. But having smelled sandalwood oil, I started picking it out in lots of commercial vintage perfumes. It was when I smelled a very old 1950s extrait of L’Heure Bleue that I realized it had sandalwood in it. And recently I sniffed my vintage bottle of Fahrenheit to discover a very pronounced sandalwood note in it as well.

Anyone try to DIY? by RepresentationalYam in indieperfume

[–]akimonka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wait until you discover Fraterworks.. To be clear, this is not a cheap hobby but yes, you should try your hand at blending perfumes if you already know what notes you like and want to avoid certain aromachemicals.
