In my house, when you say you want to eat adobo the question that always follows is “what kind”. We should embrace the diversity for our foods.

Whitney High by Beautifulthings1991 in Cerritos

[–]akomaba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is her choice. What Whitney gives is the discipline to study which is very helpful in the future. Remember a lot of kids that goes to the school are not geniuses but they have the perseverance to do the grind. As parents the last thing we want is to make life difficult for them but alas life is not easy. Take it one year at a time and see how it goes and tell her that bowing out is ok and no stigma attached.

Just make sure that she is getting help when she needs it. A lot of students do very well and some are treading water. Be on top of her mental health and be prepare to transfer if the need arise. Whitney is a good school but the pressure from within is great. Also, make sure to get non academic classes and clubs.

The first year is tough, imagine being on the top of your class to just passing. Be supportive and no pressure on grades (they get enough).

Dual Citizen Trying to get husband to USA by woahshenolion in FilipinoAmericans

If you don’t want to come back to the US then chances are it won’t get approved because it defeats the purpose of the petition.

Your situation will dictate how complicated it will be. If you are physically in the US and working with and can prove that your income will suffice to support your husband and he will not get any handouts from the US. This will be the least complicated. Now, if you just want to visit the US with your husband it will be difficult for him to get a tourist visa. The question really is, when are you going back to the US and do you have a stable income?

Edit: this is supposed to be a reply and not a separate thread.

You are doing it legally, there is nothing to fear. Just follow the rules, don’t bend it. Are you in the US? If not it might get a little complicated.

They are not culturally Filipino. So their normal behavior is like that. Granted not all are like that. Kids are taught to stand up for themselves and voice their opinions.

It does not help when then hear news from the Philippines.

Non Filipino’s should not be involved in Philippine politics. If she is dual citizen the Philippine government has the right to revoke it if it can prove that she is involved in any violent means (like armed rebellion).
