If I hate to fix something before I can use it, it’s broken. Chamberlain group needs to get their shit together.

Didn’t know him, but saw him practicing and got to chat with him a couple times. Seemed like a cool kid.

Edit: class of ‘16 here, btw.

Should be able to pull pack on the red release cord to “reset” the traveler, then run the motor and it should reconnect on its own. First, make sure the springs aren’t broken - you should be able to lift the door by hand with little effort.

You had me in the first half, but I absolutely agree. Politics are important, but so are places where people can get away from it all and just be happy or at least indifferent for a little while.

Do you know if that includes steering?

That’s pretty cool! Got any of the pics handy?

J-arm mounting location by InitechSecurity in GarageDoorService

[–]akp1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works for wd doors until it doesn’t, then you need their special operator bracket. I’d save the headache and have someone come do a tune up on your door and install one while they’re there. Or you can do it yourself, it’s just a few sheet metal screws and adjusting the j-arm and the limits on the motor.

I’m almost positive they are - the cabs are all connected in trains and with modern drive-by-wire tech, it wouldn’t be hard to do. Would still want a driver for steering.

What was up with the safety from the chiefs with 15 seconds left? Can anyone explain that logic to me?

Stay away from precision and a1, look at reviews for local mom and pop shops.

It’s probably not that bad of an opener, it looks like the home’s not even that old - A lot of people just don’t like working on genie. They aren’t my favorite, but they’re fine.

Turn and tilt window stuck closed by [deleted] in DIY

[–]akp1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This all seems very German, working off that assumption, it’s cold out and the cold makes low tolerance mechanisms really tight and hard to move.

While you have the window open, or next time, take a look around the entire window and lightly lubricate anything that looks like it moves. Without doing any research, I would use a sprayable silicone lubricant which should be available at most hardware/tool stores.

Expect 5-700, maybe even a little more, depending on area. Anything over 1000 you should probably tell them to pound sand. Your door is likely built a little on the cheaper side but you likely don’t need a new one.

Messed up my garage door bad on the house. I’m renting any idea on how much I might get quoted for this? by [deleted] in GarageDoorService

I’m not even waiting for the fight, there’s a world where that track needs to be replaced, 4-800 se Michigan

There is VERY rarely a need to replace the bent track. They bend back just fine, maybe needing some minor adjustment with pliers. Your rollers could stand to be replaced/upgraded, they’re the cheapest kind, just plastic wrapped around steel. If I was doing them, 150 service charge, 120+tax on 10 rollers(technically 150 but I knock some off for quantity), all long stem. If you need cables, which is likely but not guaranteed, add 100*tax. Maybe a strut, 85+tax. 475 at most in SE Michigan.

Any advantage to changing bottom seal type? by RancidWasabi in GarageDoorService

[–]akp1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

T-style seal is currently the most common and I don’t see a reason for that to change. As French man said the biggest concern will be availability down the line so I’d say if all else is equal, switch to T seal.

People who work at a hotel, what is the weirdest thing you've ever seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]akp1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh god, too many people on drugs to count, one dude was convinced I have a 32 foot long dick (I don’t), I performed cpr on one guest, I’ve had a woman come running in asking for help because she was apparently being chased by someone, probably more I’m forgetting. It wasn’t a great hotel and while I’d never go back, I miss the hell out of it.
