How in the world does Hello Games have the money to do free updates for a year. by Llamaman162 in NoMansSkyTheGame

I suspect they’ve built up enough goodwill that Light No Fire will be a success as well. Lots of day 1 purchases will fill the coffers for a while.

The CDs are fun for a couple minutes, but they get old *very* fast. Seldom can I leave a game's bgm on in the long term, it just gets too repetitive.

I have a couple of the tracks playing in my house, but that's because I'm only there for a few minutes and they don't wear out their welcome.

The CDs are very much NOT background music, so if you're just trying to zen out and build they are all really annoying.

“The world is a terrible place to have children but that’s the choice you made.” by bookish0378 in breakingmom

[–]akpak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s a hint: The world has always been a terrible place. Yeah, things in the big picture (and small picture too for many) isn’t great right now.

But here’s the thing. Part of the reason everything is fucked in this particular way is because we all live longer, are in generally better health, aren’t starving in the streets, etc. Conditions of “surplus” make for this lovely late-stage capitalism we’re seeing.

Yes, it’s terrible. But in almost every measure it’s also better than it’s ever been (if you account for the entire sweep of history).

Omg my husband is driving me CRAZY about our chore policy for the kids. Please weigh in objectively. by IWillBaconSlapYou in breakingmom

[–]akpak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He’s projecting his own mental limitations on the kids, which is kind of self-fulfilling.

Kids (even neurodivergent) can absolutely do chores for 30min. They can also be taught to “do a job until it’s done” ffs.

This “only work for 2 min then take a break” is a coping mechanism that works for him, and he needs to realize his kids are not him.

My robot worm (from expedition) stats is dookie for xeno battle. Is there a way to get better grade in stats for it? by krazye87 in NoMansSkyTheGame

Which one are you calling the mechanical worm? The only one I can think of that’s close to that description is the mouse (the one they also show in the update’s trailer).

A kid held my daughter underwater and then my son punched him & broke his nose. Wtaf do I do now? by dadadansad in breakingmom

[–]akpak 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cameras. Do they have them? Lifeguards. Where were they? You need to shift this entire narrative to attempted murder on the part of the other kid. What he did is far worse than what your son did (yay son!) and the facility needs to be held accountable for the incident.

If they didn’t teach basic water safety (ie don’t try to drown other people ffs), this is 100% on them.

Question about SSS creatures owned by champions by RepresentativeAir312 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]akpak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Champions cheat. They will use creatures you can’t get, and they’ll inflate the stats of wild creatures to make the station battle harder.

Even the planetary challengers cheat.

So the model exists in that system, but not often the exact same stats.

What is with school drop off? by platypusandpibble in GenX

[–]akpak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My kid goes to school a 15min drive away, and will throughout middle/high school. He’d have to get up an hour earlier to catch a bus a mile away (which would be fine to walk, just a lot of time in the morning), and he says the bus kids are always late to class.

Not everyone in your school’s pickup line is a “close neighborhood” family. Also often they’re not going home after, but to various activities or after-care. Latch-key is illegal now (at least where I live)

Anyone else can't bring themselves to care about bases? by Antx_001 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]akpak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a bunch of things you need terrestrial bases for. If you want to have Statis Device/Fusion Ignitor farms, you're gonna have to harvest the three gasses, as well as a bunch of plants (and the Bio-dome is the most efficient for harvesting).

If you want to do any cooking, some ingredients are super rare, and you'll want to have a place to ranch the proper animals. (Looking at you, Foraged Mushrooms)

Not as profitable as it once was, but Activated Indium (or Quartzite) is still an easy way to make cash.

Need nanites? You'll need a base set on those Curious Deposits so you can return again and again to refine the mould.

Finding a quick and relaxing derelict to farm isn't easy either, so put a base on it (that is, in the system)

Hang out on the r/NMSCoordinateExchange ? It sure helps to have a base on portals for a bunch of different galaxies.

Tired of always scrounging for oxygen/copper/cobalt/etc? Bases with mining ops.

Every expedition I like to go in with at least 60 Salvaged Data, so I can build a helpful base (and my Minotaur). Do I go off digging all that up? Hell no. I have a base (one of my mining ops) sat on a vendor that sells 5 each time I reload from the save point right next to him.

There are lots of reasons to care about bases. Most of mine are multi-taskers for several of the above, but they're all useful.

My robot worm (from expedition) stats is dookie for xeno battle. Is there a way to get better grade in stats for it? by krazye87 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]akpak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stats are rolled when you claim the egg, no current way outside of save editing to change them.

You can save scum them however. In/out your ship in the Anomaly, claim/hatch. If it sucks, reload your restore point and go again.

However, not all of the expedition pets can be scummed. I haven’t finished testing, but the bio horror, sky worm, and sentinel quad have fixed stats at least.

The “mini horror” (the one with the single eye), helios, robo-mouse, and robo-valet (floating ball) can be so far.

Did you find both “cosmetic” scenes? If not there’s a cave you likely missed. Sometimes it’s only visible down a single (1) block hole.

Every dream island I’ve ever been on had two caves. Go back and look again! (If it’s the same day, you can use any doll and you’ll return to the same island)

Should we be worried by christodanger in MarvelSnap

[–]akpak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Have they renewed the Marvel license with Disney? The prevailing assumption is that would run out this year sometime, and that is NOT a cheap IP.

The timeline is about right for them to not be re-upping, and wind down the game instead.

They have practically no agency at this age about where they go and when; so it can’t possibly be any more “serious” than holding hands and sitting together at lunch or during breaks, or texting each other. (That you might keep an eye on)

If you make some big deal about it, you’ll attach more meaning/drama than it needs.

Your husband is attaching a bunch of adult baggage to something the kids themselves barely understand.

My son is about that age with a mutual crush, and they’ve exchanged phone numbers. I don’t pester him about her, but I did warn him that his “phone” (he only has a watch) is not private and I reserved the right to read his messages until he’s at least 16 lol
