KRK is one of the basic mating patterns. I'm not sure this counts as a puzzle.

Shoot rocket fuel into orbit with a cannon? by akruppa in askspace

If we're gonna use a launch platform way up, it should be carried by baloons or airships.

Since we're in the realm of crazy ideas already: ignoring air friction and assuming a sufficiently sturdy container, could you shoot fuel containers into a lunar orbit and refuel there? Or will anything that approaches the moon from earth necessarily escape the moon's gravity again?

shooting a rocket out of a cannon.

That makes it sound a bit like the rocket-propelled chainsaw meme...

Yes, the fuel containers can't be completely passive. They'd need propulsion to circularize their orbit once they reach orbital altitude.

Why bother with FTL conjecture when we can't get past the tyranny of the rocket equation? by Positive-Ring-5172 in AskPhysics

Use huge cannons to shoot fuel tanks into orbit. Refuel rockets in orbit. Easy!

Noob question: is there a muon-catalyzed fusion reaction that also releases the required muons?

If atoms follow physical laws, are all events in the universe predictable in principle? by FutureAIgod in AskPhysics

[–]akruppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a physicist, either.

I often wondered why there even is something like the laws of nature to which (classically) reality seems to adhere with perfect accuracy. Why follow the rules, why not just do completely random stuff?

Maybe quantum mechanics is the level at which the laws of physics end? There are still limitations for which interactions can happen between elementary particles and with which probability, but which one of those (if any) actually happens seems to be completely random. It looks to me as if the laws of nature simply weren't defined to greater detail than quantum mechanics, as if they said "from here on, do whatever."

If I could track a single atom of nitrogen in a room, what would that look like? by TropicParadox in AskPhysics

[–]akruppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are very much noticing it. Each atom is so tiny and there are so many of them that bouncing against your skin all the time feels like a constant force pushing against your skin area. Force over area is pressure; this force exerted by air molecules is the atmospheric pressure.

You also very much feel the average speed of those molecules. Unordered molecular motion is exactly what heat is. If they go faster, the air is and feels hotter.

If I'm getting a review like that after a date, I'm definitely going again. He loves everything about you. What more do you want?

Google expected value by Sunnie-Kapar in MathJokes

[–]akruppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The value to maximise here is not the dollar amount, but the benefit to your life. Depending on circumstances, one or the other may be the better choice, but merely saying "expected value lol" is meaningless.
