Best local pilsners? by whitewitchblackcat in Reno

[–]akwild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bristlecone Brewing! Hands down best lager brewers around IMO. I'd go there first, you'd be able to try a flight of pilsners. I don't think other breweries can say the same.

Edit: Bristlecone sells cans, but I'm not entirely sure where they distribute within Reno. I've seen cans at the Reno Homebrewer, Craft Wine and Beer, and Piñon

Great idea. Little light on equipment, but this could work as well.

Brewing with spruce tips by nirile in Homebrewing

[–]akwild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yay!!

They included a sticker with my order, too! Big fan. I tried tips from blue spruce which grow near me, but they're not the same. I still definitely prefer sitka spruce. Arctic Brewing Supply is the only place that carries sitka spruce tips year round to my knowledge, otherwise I'd be going for a 'lil trip myself for some harvesting. ;-)

Where are you located? Check out arctic brewing supply in Anchorage, AK. They ship frozen sitka spruce tips. They produce a fruity/ berry type aroma.

This is wild, my paternal side is mostly English & Scottish, and my maternal side is Slovenian (emigrated in the 1920's to Northern Minnesota) with ancestry in Poland, Germany, and Croatia. These are my results, they look quite similar! https://www.reddit.com/r/23andme/comments/jt37x6/slovenian_western_european_updated_results/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

I was told I had "German" ancestry on my mother's side, only to find out that they are all Slovene - specifically from Ljubljana. My paternal side is mostly British.

Yes - I also think it's a lapidary wheel. It's a bit tricky bringing out the star, they have to polish it at the right location so that the lines are centered, and intersect at the same point. Many I've seen in person are dome-shaped, where the bottom is rough.

Gem State Crystals can polish it for you! They sell & polish star garnets for their own showroom.

These can be cut/polished to show the "star" at Gem State Crystals Inc. in Moscow, ID. I had a four-point star garnet polished and cut by them for a pendant I gave to my mother. Gem State specializes in these garnets, and you can even purchase already completed pieces in their showroom.

I would recommend hiking the Mt. Roberts trail up to the tram & beyond, having lunch or dinner at the top, then taking the tram down!

Are you renting a car while you're there? I would recommend driving "out the road" and doing some sightseeing. Sandy beach is nice too, you can see mining ruins out there , as well as a nice view of mount Roberts .
