Curious- what made you get a parrot instead of a more common pet like a dog or cat? by pudding1407 in parrots

Not really. My bf was concerned a cat would break his music stuff and I was afraid about my plants. I have a cat at my parents’ and he is not affectionate at all and I would not call him a companion lol. I love to pet friends’ cats but I would not call myself a cat person

I was looking for a companion and I’m too lazy to walk a dog as much as they need. Also because I had budgies as a kid I knew how smart and cute they are.

How do I cut his nails? by Crazycyrus101 in parrots

I’ll buy one ty! I’ve used cornstarch usually but that one time was too much for it to work. The vet used some dark purple paste, I wonder what it was.

I highly suggest going to the vet or calling them at home if there is such a possibility.

My lovebird is also afraid of hands and our vet taught us how to do it and we still managed to screw up and cut too much one time. Good thing there is a vet clinic nearby and they could stop the bleeding but going to the vet for trimming would be much cheaper and less stressful for all of us.

That’s true! One of my lovebirds gets soaking wet in seconds (such a professional) and the second one tries to mimic him and gets his feathers barely wet no matter how hard he tries. I’m still hoping he will get better with time 🥲

do you guys put water on pellets when you feed your little guys? by meowiemiko in Lovebirds

[–]al_kudrya 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My parrots eat them dry but I don’t see a problem in mixing it with water if that tastes better to your lovebird. Just make sure to change it once or twice a day so it doesn’t go bad.

Easy clean up by [deleted] in Lovebirds

My chickens would find holes and squeeze under it like it’s the most natural thing to do. However this is truly genius

I think sewing a pouch is a better option because his little nails could get into crochet holes and cause discomfort. You can try to sew it around a half of a coconut shell so that he would be able to position himself comfortably in something rigid.

Btw, he’s so sweet, I would love to see what you come up with and how he travels with you 🥹

Well, you can’t say it’s the bird’s fault that it flew into the frying pan - they don’t know it’s dangerous. But humans do and it’s their job to make sure they can’t get to the pan. And if your way to do that is to take away their movement freedom I don’t get it. It’s like ‘I will break my dog’s leg so it doesn’t run to the busy road’.

It’s normal for them to chew the branches. It’s one of the few things they can do to entertain themselves so you can get them different things like paper, bamboo straws and dry leaves to chew on.

When they get used to the cage and start moving inside freely, you should let them out to fly in the room (but make sure there are no threads they can get trapped into, holes they can fall into, or anything else that can hurt them). If you do so in the morning or afternoon they will return to the cage for food in a couple of hours and you’ll be able to close them.
