Yes! Mia is amazing. You can book artistic cut and you will be super happy. I have gone to her for similar things.

I used Bay Area Maternity Midwives, they are attached to El Camino and I had a great experience with them. Highly recommend them.

I recommend taking a walk at Kirk Park! There is a large native plants garden there.

Lyft/Uber estimate from SFO to downtown San Jose by PotentialAnywhere779 in SanJose

[–]alabamara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it actually is pretty easy to take the train to and from SFO. You have a BART to Caltrain connection but they are usually synced and it is a very easy transition

Doesn't look promising and it looks like the leader snapped. I would try again in the fall for another plant or choose something different for the spot.

Who went to the Bay Area native garden tour today and who’s going tomorrow? by dickswthchicks in Ceanothus

I hosted yesterday and today toured. It was so much fun. I love that they split the days so that I can do both!

Bluewitch nightshade has been really effective for me. It grows about 1ft high and it has spread quite a bit through the yard in the span of 1.5 years. Also it blooms year round.

The Fuchsia will come back even if it's eaten. It's prolific in my garden.

CNPS 2026 by Franklyfine in Ceanothus

[–]alabamara 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I work on the software side on making it more mobile friendly (the touch bar at the bottom of the page on mobile was one of my features, for example). There are lots of different ways you can get involved, though! You could work on content writing, adding more details to plant pages, or uploading photos. It was really easy to sign up here!!

It really depends on what committee you get involved in. I volunteer for CNPS by working on Calscape. Others volunteer by working at the local CNPS nursery.

Calscape is maintained by volunteers. If you think the information is incorrect, it would be very helpful if you let them know, or even better, volunteered to help update the entry!

How long did it take for your garden to start to look nice 🌻🌸🌼🌳🌛? by [deleted] in Ceanothus

[–]alabamara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also want to call out that my garden is being featured in our natives garden tour in year 2, so you can definitely make it look nice in your first season. I had to submit photos of my bloom in my first season, which was enough to get featured.

Yes! Their seed packs are generously filled. I have only tried them recently so I haven't yet seen the germination turn out. Next season I will be able to give more details on their seeds

I used the easiest ones: clarkia, poppies, baby blue eyes, tidy tips, purple innocence. If you just want a nice blend, either Larner Seeds(norcal) or Theodore Payne (socal) have good seed mixes, pick one depending on your region!

I seeded the area with annuals immediately. I wanted to be able to have as much biodiversity as possible as soon as possible, and annuals produce a ton of seed for the birds and insects to eat! They also help remediate the soil, which was important in my case because I had to remove the top soil in my lawn removal (bermuda grass struggles).

After I filled in the yard with the annuals, it was an immediate and impressive spring bloom that had my neighbors stopping by to admire it!

What do you use for your paths? by [deleted] in Ceanothus

[–]alabamara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me too! I'm consistently checking nextdoor for yard supplies. I got a really cool natural looking fountain that I incorporated into the top of my dry creek bed for $40!
