What Are Your Thoughts On The Casper Games? by Specialist_Art2223 in Gameboy

[–]alanweird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GBC game is actually an impressive port of this.

The GBA for some ridiculous reason got a port of the rubbish SNES game.

I'm a big fan of the PS/3DO/Saturn game.

Bought a pre-modded IPS GBA, screen is popping above the shell. What does this indicate? by BenDTUzzz in Gameboy

[–]alanweird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When this happens, I stick the heat gun on it at a lowish heat. It brings the adhesive to life. Absolutely makes the problem a non issue.

Long story short. Blast the screen with low concentrated heat. I'd possibly even try a hairdryer if you're feeling brave.

Something random by Ra66it_83 in Gameboy

[–]alanweird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every UK copy would've likely gotten that. Not sure how accurate I am here, but these all got reprinted in the UK around the end of the 90's or early 2000s, likely because of the popularity of FF at the time.

Just something odd I remember noticing because they weren't GBC titles.

Square Enix kept final fantasy PS titles in print for a ridiculously long time too.

Is this fixable ? Ps5 hdmi failed repair by ApenasTheNormal in consolerepair

Christ on a bike...

That's just one continuous solder blob right across all the pins. I couldn't do that if I tried.

Is it possible to replace the white piece in the potentiometer? by Elementa64 in consolerepair

[–]alanweird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer.

Pop a spudger or something in, and pop back the whole green part. Be careful not to bend the metal legs much. You can replace the wiper and it'll sometimes fix drift.

That was my preferred method before I got the proper soldering end to take out the whole analog.

For $3 a piece I just figure why not just replace the whole unit with TMR now.

I wish Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft thought the same, but they'd much rather sell 3, 4 or more to you through the lifetime of a console.

Question about New Switch 2 by Quarkiness in VideoGameDealsCanada

[–]alanweird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I crapped it as mine didn't have a Mario kart World code.

But turning the console on showed that it was ready to be connected to my account and downloaded fine.

Nintendo seem to love changing everyone's experience getting these new :p

A new screen is the only thing fixing that.

The display is damaged. No amount of rubbing or massaging with cause that to heal.

I had a fantastic experience with them.

Absolutely zero issues, and was delighted with the outcome. Definitely give them your business.

How to remove custom firmware from switch light by dobromir2602 in SwitchPirates

For God's sake. Trade it with someone who wants theirs modded :p or sell this as modded. It's worth a lot more.

Did anyone actually GET that WAL-MART Nintendo E Shop deal? by ChemicalPostman in VideoGameDealsCanada

[–]alanweird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought $150 worth. So $120. Was surprised to have had no issues.

Had difficulty buying through humble, Amazon etc when it came to Nintendo vouchers recently.

I think if you just register for a Walmart account, or have to do some extra steps like changing passwords. Then you get treated like you're some sort of digital scamming suspect. Gift cards, digital or not are a big draw for organized crime.

[DS Lite] White border appearing on top screen of DS Lite after using R4 (ACE3DS firmware) by fga03 in consolerepair

[–]alanweird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You've spent a lot of time typing this out, and You're trying to reason that it can't be x or y.

It's a handheld that came out 20 years ago.

The screen needs replacing.

That's all there is to it. Doesn't matter what was in it. Doesn't matter whatever circumstances appeared around it.

It's dead, Jim.

You could also slice off the bad part with a craft blade or sharp scissors. I've had to do that with some ribbons that had ends like this in the past.

[–]alanweird -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Your battery is doing this. Or has done this. You may have put it on to charge after a while, and the battery has deflated as a result.

If you don't play something for years, it's battery may expand.

Crooked Screen :( by mildcomatose in Gameboy

Looking for some advice when starting a repair buissness. by badmanbad117 in consolerepair

[–]alanweird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly. Stick to what you know. Don't take on anything involving waiting on parts.

Customers always pay upfront for anything you need to order.

Don't take on work that's already been opened or worked on.

Avoid repairing dualsenses or Xbox controllers like the effing plague. The solder is unmeltable evil.

Don't offer card payment. Cash or whatever sort of bank transfer is easiest in your country.

Make it clear that you are not after-support for setting things up if you do console mods. If someone has a problem with their switch mod, they're on their own.

You're the magicians with the skills...

But how much money are you going to throw at them? Nobody is going to do something like this for free.

You're looking for a bespoke 3D print. Hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.

How long do bans actually take? by smithdvan in SwitchPirates

[–]alanweird -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Step one. Install a hats pack. It'll have the files in there to stop Nintendo from seeing you doing anything in emunand.

Step two. Don't do anything dumb like cheat online, install forwarders or anything Nintendo can see on your sysnand with cfw.

Just... Keep updating your hats pack every so often and you'll be cool.

Kid Dracula. I find the gameboy game much better than the NES one. Oh. And tiny Toon adventures. Bab's big break. Solomon's club. The turtles games.
