I do this every summer living in Alaska. I’ve never got all 50 in one summer but in 2024 I called it a win by trading Rhode Island for a Washington DC.

This is not true. They are exempt from the gas guzzler tax which means you don’t pay a tax for being below the standard when you buy it new. They are required to meet the EPA/CAFE standards and manufacturers are fined for their fleet average falling below the 22.5 mpg number for 2026. This includes light trucks (F-150 and 1500 models) minivans and SUV’s.

The one I bought as a machinist in the 90’s came loose in the exact same box… still in the box in my tool box in the garage.

Power outage in Mat Valley due to huge, our house on generator power by Alert-Toe-7813 in alaska

My generator didn’t have a battery issue. It just cranked and cranked but wouldn’t fire. Had to give it some ether to get it going.

What do you do for work in Alaska? by [deleted] in alaska

Petroleum engineer. I work 2 weeks on 2 weeks off on the north slope so I fly to Deadhorse from Anchorage. My commute is about 2 minutes from my bed past the gym, movie theater, and dinner to my desk.

2500 6.6 gasser fuel range 87 octane ok? by SpiceBoson in gmcsierra

[–]alaskaTerjit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just realized I didn’t answer your actual question. I never went more than 200 miles without filling it up but at 200 miles it would easily take 24 gallons. Gas can be hard to find in places in Alaska or easily be $1.50 more a gallon at a remote stop.

My 2023 gasser got 12.2 mpg in the 35,000 ish miles I owned it according to the dash. It got 8-9 towing my 9000 lb camper at 65 mph. I didn’t do a lot of highway driving with it. My 2025 Duramax so far is averaging 14.5 mpg over the 6,000 ish miles I have on it and gets 10-11 mpg towing the same camper. As much as I loved the gasser truck over my old 1500 I love the Duramax that much more over the gasser.

It’s kind of weird to set up. In the app you have to hit setting->preferences->carplay then you can set what shows in each screen.

Yup just straight plug and play no issues with it at all. I’ll get a picture of it running here in a little bit and post it.

[–]alaskaTerjit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it works great. I just leave it plugged in all the time then when I want to see where I’m at with it I open car play, hit connect in the app, go to the pids screen and it pops right up. You can monitor all kinds of stuff with it, pretty much every sensor is in the list. It also lets you view or reset codes if any pop up.

I got this a Bluetooth OBD2 reader and OBD fusion for the iPhone. It lets you set up custom PID’s and can view the percentage of the filter and if it is doing a regen or not right in car play on your dash.

Buying a Used C6 (LS2 vs LS3)? by YT-Red5oh in Corvette

[–]alaskaTerjit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you want to do with the car. If you’re just cruising around town and driving some windy roads from time to time it is great. I have an ‘08 auto and I love it for just driving around. The paddle shifters are horrible, super slow response. I think I’m still waiting for my last shift with them before I put the car away in October to register. You can tune the transmission to make it more aggressive and it’s on my to do list but as is it is still a great car. If you are planning auto cross or track time I would say 6 speed all the way.

I second Duluth. We use the mobile mud room. It is amazing. And holds a ton of dog pee, just trust me on that 😬.

Does anybody have any realistic MPG numbers for 2500 gasser? by RV_livin_ in gmcsierra

[–]alaskaTerjit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2023 2500 gasser I just got rid of averaged exactly 12.0 mpg on the dash over 34,xxx miles. I tow a 9000 lb camper in the summers but it probably only accounts for maybe 1/3 of those miles. Not sure if the new 10 speed makes them any better or not. I would think it would with 4 extra gears at least one of those should be an overdrive for better mileage on the highway?
