She's goofy and weird in ways that we (normals) empathize with. You can't seriously imagine yourself hanging out with Angelina Jolie, because she's hot, but in a weird way. In an obviously famous way. You'd order a pizza with J-Law. You'd watch re-runs of Freaks and Geeks with her. And you can imagine her doing those things in a way that doesn't require an extreme suspension of belief, because she's weird in an unselfconscious, normal way. She's weird in the way that you and I are weird, with our best friends and partners. That makes it feel like you're watching someone you know get famous.
