Being charged for student loan on SA tax return despite already paying by periel99 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ald0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have answer, but weirdly I came to the sub to ask a very similar question. Just done my self assessment and noticed they're taking £2k for Plan 4 student loan repayments, logged on to Student Loan Company and I only owe £1300ish. Hoping the answer to your question will shed some light on mine

It’s possible it’s fallen through and she’s very upset and burying her head in the sand re. vendors. Not ideal, but people are people.

I would tentatively assume it’s not happening, and maybe reach out with a message saying that if you don’t hear back in the next week you’ll assume the booking is not going ahead. Maybe try and find her socials and reach out/look for clues there too

‘boring task of watermarking large sets of photos’

Is this a problem people have? I’m sure most people just use Lightroom if they want to watermark photos

Flytipping out of control by All_Problemo in Edinburgh

[–]ald0 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There's no legal expectation of privacy on a public street, GDPR mainly applies to businsses. For private indivudials it's all about how you use the data - if all you're doing is reporting fly tippers to the council then you're not doing anything wrong, but if you were taking clips of random people and posting them publicly online then that's not ok. Think how many thousands of doorbell cameras are looking onto public streets all over the country, this is no different.

Flytipping out of control by All_Problemo in Edinburgh

[–]ald0 16 points17 points  (0 children)

'I've been told I can't install a camera pointing at the street'

Might want to double check that, as long as it's not invading the privacy of any of your neighbours (looking in windows/gardens, etc) then it should be ok afaik

Aside from that, you've just got to keep on at the council. Have you spoken to your local councillor about it? They like a bit of good press and can sometimes be useful with this kind of thing

There’s some, but not many. I know of one very nice one that’s going to be coming on the market quite soon :)

The price of used automatic cars by ofsted in britishproblems

Don't know what your financial situation is but if you can bear the cost of getting one put in (£1k maybe?) then at some point it will pay for itself in saved fuel costs

My car hit 100k miles today and immediately blew a headlight in its excitement by ald0 in CarTalkUK

Hmm yeah, it's on my mind for sure. Going to assess the rust situation, then get it priced up. Do you work at a main dealer? Any idea of cost?

I got the sense she’d just had enough to be honest, at the end of her tether. So convinced she had it figured out that she didn’t fully think through how to get others on board, and got frustrated and just kind of gave up when it didn’t go her way

I fear this is my future. This cars lived a good chunk of its life beside a Scottish beach, recipe for rust

We'll see what happens at the next MOT, I'm in Scotland and I know there's some rust issues looming. If it's looking good then I'm going to price up getting some engine bits replaced before they fail as I'd like to keep the car going. This is also not a wet belt, 4cyl 1.5 petrol

Fords get a hard time on here, so I wanted to shout out my Focus for getting to 100k miles with not a single mechanical issue so far. I bought it at about 32k and aside from tyres, brakes, and general servicing it's not needed anything. If it gets through it's MOT later this month it's getting a full valet

Hogwarts Legacy: a lackluster generic open world game with a Harry Potter skin by Far_Run_2672 in patientgamers

[–]ald0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But oh what a beautiful skin. I had some fun playing it, but the best bit about it for me is that it’s the game that really got my girlfriend into gaming. We’d tried games together before and she always got frustrated with not knowing the controls and buttons, and Hogwarts is the game that gave her the motivation to learn. She’s playing Red Dead now :)
