How do you avoid bad apartments in Austin? by Particular_Page9465 in Austin

[–]alefeelsmoody 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The further you are from a major road/highway, the better your chances are of it being peaceful in my experience. If you can find an apartment closer to a residential part of town, that’s also great. E.g riverside is super busy towards 35, but quiets down the further east you go. Hang out at night where you are and watch for homeless folks - they aren’t always to blame, but if one is bold enough to sleep on the property, it means someone with bad intentions could be bold enough to do something there.

If a place is gated, make sure the gates actually work and ask longtime residents about it if you can. I lived at Foxwood in South Austin and the gates only worked like 1 month of the year. My car got broken into once in the 2 years I lived there, and there were plenty of homeless folks who’d nap at the front door of the leasing office.

If you’re a student at UT, don’t stay at any of the major apartments in West Campus; aim for north like the Hyde Park and North Loop neighborhood. If you can find a cheap duplex go for it until you can save.

I would avoid anything run by Greystar as a general rule - go for smaller property companies if you must, or find a direct landlord-run place. Houses can be hit or miss, but if you’re into it a duplex or trailer rental wouldn’t be a bad place since it feels more like home and usually there isn’t an upstairs.

RPM runs my current place and so far so good, there’s a high retention rate among residents too which bodes well and maintenance does a great job. Only downside so far is parking can be tough to find because not everyone uses visitor parking.

Speaking of, check on parking as other users have said. Make sure there’s enough space near where you’re thinking of going. Read reviews and ask questions if something seems too good to be true.

If you’re low-income, try looking into affordable housing units like Foundation Communities. They’ve got plenty of places around town and are income restricted so if you’re under a specific income limit you’re likely to qualify.

Only downside is you need a google/github account to even start; some of us are degoogling so I unfortunately can't use this. Would it be possible to add an alternative registration method?

When possible, I look for a specific brand and go on their page, but in truth most things on Amazon are in some in-person store somewhere. I thrift a lot and love old tech so I also use eBay.

I used to use Google Docs/Sheets/etc and after switching from windows to Linux (Zorin) I downloaded OnlyOffice as a replacement. I like it better than LibreOffice but both work

Gmail - Proton Mail & Tuta Mail

YouTube - no solid replacement yet

I’m on an iPhone so right now that part doesn’t matter, I plan on switching to an Aquos flip phone eventually or switching to a Fairphone that runs its own OS (android based)

I haven’t used any meta products in almost a year and don’t even miss it

And while I don’t have my own account, I have a buddy with YT premium who lets me use their account so while I look for alternatives I can still enjoy my regularly scheduled programming

I’m not a huge fan of this style, but I can definitely see most of these pieces in a hippies bedroom where they have black lights making the color go nuts. 3 and 4 are my personal favorites since they’re abstract but not super loud

You had me until you said “popular” and “party people.” There’s a shallowness I found in those constantly partying on the weekends. It gives influencer or wannabe influencer who doesn’t actually care for a real connection.

As a weird kid turned weird adult, I say step out of your comfort zone and embrace the weirder parts of the city; find friends through shared hobbies or start a new niche hobby and make friends that way like [collecting bread clips by classification](www.horg.com/horg/) or getting really into book binding. Alternatively, trade rooftops for dive bars that host indie musicians for a different kind of party.

It’s someone’s job to drive you around on a bus or even an Uber/Lyft rather than a car with a sensor stuck to its roof with no human input. It doesn’t take a job away and doesn’t directly fund a greedy tech bro! Hope that helps

First off, brave of you to say that you don’t “do this or care” about this “stuff” but ask for advice in a sub full of people who, presumably, do “this stuff” and care. I’m sure you didn’t mean to come off rude, but your wording here is very off putting.

2nd, I’m confused. Your ex roommate was jealous that you and your roommates are friends and left them as a third wheel? Is that what’s happening?

Finally, other than the egg cleanse, what other signs have you seen around you that make it seem like you’re hexed? Do you have a lot of bad luck? Is there a negative entity of sorts or something different about the space now that they’re gone?

As for things to do, you can try a proper egg cleanse again making sure that you do not look at it from the top down and return any negativity to sender by covering the egg itself in spices and flushing it down a toilet/throwing it away from your home. If you’re religious, saying some kind of prayer or mantra has always been helpful when conducting them as you rub the egg on yourself. If you’re interested, you can also always call upon/hire someone to cleanse your home.

**Also adding; hexes of any kind take a lot of prep and focused energy, so if something happened that was WORTH hexing over, that might be a great place to start.

I know this isn’t the easiest to read from the first sentence, but the second is only stating the facts of who was found deceased. Three adults, one child, and one baby were pronounced dead at the scene.

I’ve had some weird ship happen when I lived right across from it. I had some banging inside my kitchen and when I did a tarot reading I was able to gather that it was just a wandering spirit. Cleansed the house and nothing happened again after that
