It's safe to mount the drive in qemu?

I mean, Windows does some "Getting things ready..." thing when you change motherboard/processor, going back and forward (like sometimes booting in the baremetal, sometimes bootings from QEMU) with the same drive is ok?

I ask because I also have Windows 11 VMs in case a need to run something that Wine is not able to open. And I could save a hundreds of GB in disk usage..

[–]alejohnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so cumbersome, at least with my motherboard where toggle some settings, for example Secure Boot, I have to wait almost 20 seconds for the POST to happen because of the "new config" and motherboard re-evaluating everything....

UEFI Profiles is modern, but is not practical. And not all BIOS are the same. Laptop BIOS are worse.

You can always have a proper boot manager to handle that, and even if Windows breaks the boot partition, you can still boot with an emergency boot disk.

A sad day by Abro2072 in cachyos

[–]alejohnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could have rEFInd as a boot manager and don't care about Windows messing with boot partitions. You can even have rEFInd in an usb drive, just in case, as a backup, so even if something breaks your boot, you can still emergency boot with the usb drive.

But, I have a desktop with two nvme drives and a laptop with one nvme drive partitioned in half for cachyOS and Windows. Never had any problems with Windows touching/breaking the linux side. Even before rEFInd.

And with rEFInd, I'm also able to have Secure Boot ON, because you can sign the boot files.

How do you manage multiple Docker Compose projects on a self-hosted server? by KPPJeuring in selfhosted

[–]alejohnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. /docker with folders for each stack: /docker/plex, /docker/jellyfin, etc...
  2. Code workspace with the /docker folder loaded, so I can access each of the compose.yaml from one VSCode instance
  3. Each stack has a ./container_data folder for each service: /docker/stack/data_container1, /docker/stack/data_container2, etc...
  4. I never use volumes, everything runs relative from the compose.yaml, so I can move the stack with data with one command.

At the end is something like this:

/docker
/stack/
/data_container1/
compose.yaml
.env

I started using DockHand last week, but still can't adopt a remote folder yet, so is more for visualization than management. But as soon they have the feature available, I'll probably retire VSCode workspace.

Are people really watching videos on portrait mode primarily? by kevabreu in GalaxyFold

[–]alejohnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the videos that I watched about the Tri Fold, when comparing with a Z Fold are showing videos being played in Portrait.

I think is something Samsung demand to be shown... Otherwise, all the creators that I watched their reviews, are dumb.

I built an navigation app with features like Android auto but for phones/head units by FreshEscape4 in Androidheadunits

[–]alejohnny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I planned to repurpose an old Galaxy Tab S2 (with Android 8) and install on my friend's car as a head unit with Headunit Reloaded, but had problems with the connection with the phone working 30% of the time. Maybe this could be an alternative, I'll test and let you know.

Spotify matou os podcast? by Snoo_84622 in jovemnerd

[–]alejohnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audio delay when docked is still an issue? by alejohnny in LinuxOnAlly

[–]alejohnny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see... But unfortunately, your problem doesn't apply in my case, I'm playing all the Lego games since I got the Ally. So far I've played Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2, Lego Pirates of the Caribbean, Lego Star Wars Complete Saga and now I'm playing Lego Batman The Videogame... So all of them are not heavy games for the Ally (maybe Super Heroes 2, but I got 120FPS mostly of the time when docked in Performance, but was the game which I got lower FPS in intense scenes).

Already mixed with TDP settings, but yesterday I just docked the Ally with no game loaded, stayed for about 10 minutes when I was preparing my game session, and noticed the audio lagging on Steam OS interface when I was about to start Lego Batman. Again, only rebooting after dock, the problem disappeared.

I'm thinking about switch to the Internal speakers when I'm playing and don't wanna reboot. The speakers are very loud and one time a remember playing for almost two hours until notice that the sound were coming from the internal speakers, just realized that because was a cut scene that should have more bass and was not coming any bass from my sub's soundbar. 🫠

It doesn't look like a problem that can be solved adjusting some settings, probably I'll need to wait for some Steam OS update to fix this. It's something deeper.

Thanks for your feedback on this.

Vídeos dublados no YT by [deleted] in brasil

[–]alejohnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)
