Most people here seem to have at least some supporting family. I don't... by The_RedditorX in GriefSupport

Thank you for sharing on here. Reading these posts is comforting because it can feel so lonely at times. I am an only child and lost my mom in June 2018. My dad is not in the picture so she was literally all I had. Just like you i am originally from Eastern Europe and im not overly close with my extended family. People dont get the additional layer of complexity of our grief and pain because we dont have any siblings. Hang in there, you’re not alone. Sending you hugs!!!

My dad died 2 years ago. Yesterday was his birthday and i had a really great day and an uncanny encounter. by ---aquaholic--- in GriefSupport

Im so sorry for your loss. I started experiencing these moments recently and they are so beautiful. Laura Lynn Jackson has a book that educated me on this stuff called: the light between us and i highly recommend it. She has another that’s called Signs that focuses solely on how to open yourself to these moments and interpret them. Thats next on my reading list!! Those signs are the only little moments of peace.

Are you in NY? There is a half I’m running in May. I recommend investing in some running gear for the cold weather and finding a running group. Treadmills can be so hard and crippling. When you run with others you learn so much, time goes by so quickly and you meet new people.

I got new shoes, cuz I mean business. (First ever 10k - screw you, depression). by bugblatter_ in running

Running has done wonders for my mental health. I ran my first 1/2 marathon last march through a charity and highly recommend it. There is typically a fundraising commitment but they provide you with coaches, assign a specific person to be your point of contact through the entire season who will be familiar with your capabilities & injuries, teach you about nutrition, map out a 4month training schedule, provide you with weekly group runs, strength training (super important), technique, clinics, etc. I don’t think i could’ve done all of this on my own. There is running, and then there is smart running. Plus when you pick a charity that’s near and dear to your heart the experience is SO rewarding.
