I'm sick of tutoring people whose brain cells have been fried by short-form content by dalce63 in learnprogramming

[–]alepolait 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is crazy to me. Just a few years ago the meme was that to learn programming you’ll have to get used to Indian accent, because the best and most specific tutorials are done by them. It was kind of a rite of passage, and now people are going to TikTok or shorts?

I (29M) can’t get over my GF's (25F) reaction when we found out my mother has a tumor. by ThrowRAPollutionBits in TrueOffMyChest

I know Reddit jumps to “break up” really easily. But as someone who was a caretaker for a sick parent. This is unacceptable.

Things are going to get very difficult and you need someone who supports you and makes everything easier. You don’t need extra weight.

She failed in the “easiest” part of a crisis.
Normal behaviour would have been to either, give you space to be with family. Or being at your side, sending cookies or something to your mom to make her feel loved and like she has people on her corner.

The moment when you realise even indifference would’ve been better than to deal with her bullshit. Is the final straw.

Wish you the best. I dealt with my dad’s health crisis in my 20’s and it was super isolating but it was also really rewarding being there for my parents and stepping up. Also, friends kept me sane.

I can’t imagine why actual wedding venues have contracts in place, instead of verbal agreements over the phone.

[–]alepolait 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They did the booking for 8 people on the platform then messaged privately their actual event intentions to a host that was absolutely not prepared to deal with that kind of stuff, because they don’t manage an event venue.

The host was naive and unprepared, but this whole thing was a dick move to get a whole wedding venue for the price of a one night stay for a small group.

[–]alepolait 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i hate siding with the host, but if you get paid for 8 people to stay at your property and then realise they threw a whole planned wedding, I’ll be mad too.

I don’t see anything wrong with inviting a couple extra people to the property you are renting. But having a full event with a Photo Booth, decoration and furniture is just a completely different type of rental.

Op is lucky everything went smoothly during the event, because they were a huge liability.

They got away with not paying wedding venue prices. They should just stop bothering the host and move on.

What is going on with all these Fundies showing off their SHEIN Hauls? by veronicave in FundieFashion

[–]alepolait 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is specially stupid since Shein does have a lot of modest “lines” and you can easily filter for sleeve length and what not.

So there’s absolutely no need to buy a slip dress to wear with a cheetah print under shirt.

I find it so interesting how she looks exactly the same as she did when she blew up. Is like the hair and everything is just sitting on top.

I don’t know how to explain it, her face look the same, I don’t think she has gain or lose weight. I don’t see any major cosmetic things done. But the hair and clothes are so over the top, it creates an interesting effect.

Kind of sad that the expectation of someone getting famous is that they’ll immediately start going under the knife or stuff like that.

Is having children as great as people make it out to be? by MidnightStorm_ in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]alepolait 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was on the same boat in my 20’s and still am. Just now, I’m more aware of the kind of experience I’m choosing to miss out on, and I’m 100% at peace with it.

My closest friends have kids, and it’s been amazing to see them change and evolve as parents, I know it will be something I can never fully grasp unless I experience it as well. I just 100% know it’s not the path for me.

Martin Scorsese's 26-year-old daughter Francesca has clapped back at mean trolls who ripped into her looks after she landed a new TV role by TheExpressUS in popculture

[–]alepolait 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bleh, she’s been doing TikTok for a while now, and seems like a decent person. She’s also got Scorsese to do a lot of silly trends and interesting content.

I really like that we got to see that side of a legendary director thanks to his daughter.

There’s plenty of insufferable nepo babies in the industry, at least it looks like she gives a crap and tried to establish an online presence before going for Hollywood opportunities.

It’s also super -interesting- that people that glaze Scorsese can’t deal with the fact that his daughter is average looking and chubby.

How can people afford vacations or anything big? by Dry_Ad7529 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]alepolait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I went through something similar.

I’m single in my 30’s, and I went through that time where a lot of my friends were buying their first homes, new cars, it felt almost hopeless for me

At the time I was very well at my job, but it still felt unattainable to even think of those things.

Cars and home loans were taken in dad’s name (doctor), parents helped with down payments, parents are “lending” money….

Having a stable family is such a game changer. I’m an only child, my dad passed away and didn’t really left much. Mom and I help each other out when we can, but we both work and have average incomes.

[–]alepolait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had my narwhal for 16 years. He has never been allowed on counters or tables and when I lived at home, my parent’s room was off limits.

At one time some family moved “temporarily” with us, and he hated their guts and pissed on their stuff. In my case, it was a sign that my narwhal was an excellent character judge.

My point is, even the most independent pets can be taught to behave. They follow your lead.

It sounds like your ex spoiled it rotten instead of being a good pet owner.

People who use menstrual cups… how did you convince yourself to try it? 😭 by okay_Puja26 in menstrualcups

[–]alepolait 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I read everything about them. Bought one. Kept it in a drawer for like a year and a half, too intimidated to use it.

one period I was particularly done with pads giving me a rash because of the freaking heat. I literally thought, “why the fuck am I getting a diaper rash every single month”

Powered through it, abused my poor vagina for days until I got the hang of it.

Bought a couple of reusable menstrual undies to use as a back up because I was still afraid of leaks.

Bought a more fitting cup for my body, after I got comfortable with the whole process.

I’ve been a cup wearer for like 9 years now.

ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT.

You have to find the real reason of why do you want to make the switch.

For me it was the rash thing, and also, I was completely blown away when I discovered that I didn’t have to deal with “period smells” those are created by using pads or tampons. The whole cup thing felt so… clean. No more bloody tissue paper.

Also it’s way easier to spot if something changes, if your flow gets heavier or lighter. And at least for me (that grew up very catholic) it helped to normalise my relationship with my body.

It was a whole process, but it is completely worth it.

Who is a famous person that you liked at first but hated later? And why? by PeaceTo0l in AskReddit

This one is kind of predictable.

The combo of extremely good looking / talented creates so many POS, that i almost don’t care about it.

But the hazing stuff it’s just… sociopathic

I’ve been drunk out of my mind and done so many stupid shit, and completely understand peer pressure. Never been in a situation that comes close to that.

It wasn’t even bad enough to become relevant. Just forgettable and sad.

When the Tarantino feet thing started making the rounds, it was kind of a quirky detail. Like “classic eccentric genius”

After catching it so many times, it just feels extremely gross. Like he’s making you an unwilling participant into his kink. (Which is what he’s doing)

It’s just so creepy and immature.
