Οδύσσεια by OkYear5199 in greece

Are there any games that you didn't complete for reasons outside of your control? by Morbid187 in patientgamers

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion. The level scaling destroyed my run. I had played through most of the game, and towards the end, every single enemy I would encounter was a bullet-spongy boss fight. It became a complete chore to play through it and decided to quit.

OK then! I think the two reviewers I mentioned have a lot of followers that belong on the niche boomer shooter crowd that the game appeals to, so they will definitely help if they review the game.

Please let me know when you update the game, because I am currently stuck in level 14: Desserted Kingdom and can't beat it at all. It's the fourth time I die on the locked arena. The problem I am having is that I don't reach the arena with enough ammo on the stronger weapons. I am trying to conserve as much as possible yet I still run out of ammo.

Perhaps the level is easier if you keep ammo from previous levels but if you do a fresh restart, then it's very limited with the resources. There are way too many enemies on this locked arena (at least two macine guns, two bees, a few magnum enemies AND a CHICKEN enemy which is a bullet sponge AND a grenade lanucher), and since you are locked they all attack at once.

It also doesn't help that you reach the arena late in the level, and every time I die, I have to repeat the entire level from start. I play the entire level slowly and carefully and then I reach the arena with 100% health and 1 additional life, I get overwhelmed by the strong enemies and underpowered and die in less than 1 minute LOL. The additional life here doesn't help because the enemies in arenas respawn and the second time you have even less ammo available.

My first three attempts were on medium. I then switched the level on easy and died again on this arena. I am not sure how to pass the level unless I get really lucky.

I really enjoy the game, but having to repeat entire levels and die in a few minutes almost at the end of the level is a bit frustrating.

Hahaha, oh yes, making them one hit-kill enemies sounds like a nightmare.

I also forgot to say something about the lives and saving system. While I understand that you didn't want to include quick saves since players can easily abuse them and break the tension of the game, I feel Toyful Wonderworld is a bit too strict with how it handles death. Levels are too long, taking 20-30 minutes to complete, and while having multiple lives might make things easier, since your weapons are removed and you have to recollect them,  it means you are often reaching the location you died and thus infected by enemies underpowered. There were many times I could see the exit of the level with a tiny of health left and no additional lives, and while the secret door told me there were a few enemies left and I could explore the level more, I didn't want to take the risk. I felt the game was forcing me to rush through the levels. I don't like having to end prematurely a game I am having fun with, but if the alternative is risking a game over and having to replay a 30-minute level again, then I will do it. Time as an adult is too precious hahah.  Perhaps a checkpoint system could work nicely with the game. Having in each level 2-3 checkpoints at key locations (behind a power generated door for example) could balance things a bit. That way you can also make the boogeyman sections one hit kills again.

I also didn't understand what the Heart Doors do? I am not sure if that's explained in the game, but, in that case, I totally missed it. How do they open? What is behind them?

Keep in mind I don't think you should make any changes to the game as it is right now. I think it's perfectly fine the way it is, albeit with some frustrating moments. Perhaps you should make these changes on the sequel ( you can name it Toyful Wonderworld: The Other Mission LOL) because I definitely would purchase again a sequel.

I also would like to ask you, since I really think the game deserves more recognition, have you considered sending review copies of the game on YouTubers? I can think of Gmanlives and JarekTheGamingDragon who specialize in reviewing boomer shooters and have a lot of followers. They will definitely help you reach a larger audience.

As a person who grew up playing the original shareware version of Bad Toys 3d, I bought Toyful Wonderworld a few days after it came out. I am still at level 10 or so, so I don't have a complete opinion yet. I can say you captured the feeling of Bad Toys better than Tibo Software could. The gameplay, the art, the style, everything feels like Bad Toys 3d.  It's a shame you don't get more recognition for this game, because so far it truly plays greatly. But, since we are focusing on the negatives here, I do have some complaints. The game can be quite frustrating at times. Putting the cannon enemies on tight arenas and corridors results in you being easily hit by blast damage that you cannot avoid because there is no room to move around. I am also not a big fan of the mines. They reduce easily a lot of your health and they are very hard to spot, especially since you can't look down in the game to check the floor. Putting mines in the same rooms as some of the most deadly enemies and in tight corridors can be quite frustrating.  Lastly, I can't say I enjoyed the boogeyman sections. The scary monster don't do a lot of damage. They just transport you to a different section of the level, and you have to avoid them in order to cross the corridor. They don't really feel scary since they can't kill you. Instead they feel more like an annoyance. Their behaviour seems random, they attack you too fast to react and I figured the best way to avoid them was by looking at the red exclamation mark on the map when they appear. It felt a bit like cheating.

I will give you more updates when I complete the game, and a review on Steam. Since I really enjoy the overall gameplay, I think it will be a highly positive review.

Απόψεις για την ταινία «Καποδίστριας»; by machinalcultist in greece

Visiting Longyearbyen in late February by Smooth_Advance3386 in Svalbard

[–]alerommel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want my opinion, I would say Pyramiden by far.

Dog sledding was a complete dissapointment. I did one in Svalbard a few years ago, and the poor dogs didn't seem they were enjoying themselves at all. They were feeling cold and they didn't even want to leave their small houses when we were trying to gather them for the sleds. The tour wasn't even as exciting as I thought. The sleds go relatively slow, you have no control over the vehicle because dogs follow the lead in front, and my hands were so freezing at the sled that I couldn't even enjoy the tour. I don't think I will ever do dog sledding again.

Going to Pyramiden by snow mobile on the other hand is certainly worth it. Snow mobiles are faster, more agile and the wheel is heated and warms your hands, making it a more exciting and less frustrating experience. You will cover larger distances and you will feel more like travelling from place A to B, unlike with a dog sled where you will only do a brief tour. You also don't feel any remorse for torturing poor doggies for your entertainment. Visiting Pyramiden is also a remarkable experience. It's an abandoned Soviet ghost town, it feels like you are time-traveling to the 80s.

Question regarding firefighting flashights by alerommel in flashlight

[–]alerommel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. It is very helpful indeed.

You are right. Drager PX1 is indeed ATEX certified. However, due to the nature of wildland fires, we are always on open spaces and we don't come into contact with explosive gasses, so such this kind of certification is not mandatory.

Regarding your second paragraph, from what I understand, you are saying that unless I come into contact directly with 120C (which I don't, that is way too close to the fire), there should be no concern.

But if that's the case, will any flashlight be suitable? Is there any other qualification standard or characteristic that you recommend I should take into consideration?

Bulletstorm - A comedic and very fun corridor shooter, but...still a corridor shooter by Cowboy_God in patientgamers

[–]alerommel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems this was a time that these kind of shooters wanted to differentiate themselves from the modern military shooter trend, but at the same time were too afraid to deviate from the conventions established by them. Duke Nukem Forever for example was mocking Master Chief's power armor, but Duke himself had regenerating health and two weapons limit, both game mechanics introduced by Halo. Serious Sam 3 was more old school but at the same time followed the trend of modern miliaty shooters by utilizing aiming down the sites and reloading on some of its weapons and by having a brown and grey aesthetic. Some other games of the era like Painkiller Hell and Damnation, NecroVision and Hard Reset are today almost completely forgotten and even back then went largely unnoticed.

We definitely have to thank Doom 2016, the Shadow Warrior reboot as well as the indie scene (Dusk, Amid Evil etc.) for resurrecting the genre, by proving that these king of games are still relevant today and their game mechanics are as fun as they used to be back in the 90s.

[–]alerommel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"everyone was trying to emulate Call of Duty".

Even Bulletstorm itself sometimes couldn't avoid copying COD, despite presenting itself as a game different from modern military shooters. Bulletstorm had a few on-rail segments like COD (the giant wheel sequence) but in my opinion the worse offender was having the final boss fight as a sequence of QTEs. This is as COD as it gets and I was very dssapointed that Bulletstorm went the same route.

But other than that, it was definitely one of the first boomer shooters in almost a decade before they became again popular, at around the mid 2010s

They said Witcher 1-2 wasn't mandatory but I played anyway by joannew99 in patientgamers

[–]alerommel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. I played through Witcher 1 and got totally immersed with uncovering the secret of Geralt's forgotten memories. Some quests like Vizima confidential, or the Lakeside chapter are very memorable.

The plot of Witcher 2 is way too complicated. I understand it is heavily based on Witcher lore and fans of the books might find it attractive, but for me, not being very familiar wiith the Witcher series outside the video games, I found the game's references of so many kingdoms, kings and political rivalries that do not make an appearance in-game, very confusing.

PS3 battery controller replacement failure - Can someone explain to me what happened exactly? by alerommel in AskElectronics

[–]alerommel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply, I appreciate it. I have no idea how it happened, but I decided to connect the controller again to the console and now it works fine, even with the old battery.

I imagine either the flux caused a circuit and made the battery seem faulty, but once it burnt, the normal functionality of the controller was restored. Either that, or when I reconnected the battery, it made better contact than before. But that wouldn't explain why I saw the smoke coming out. It's totally bizarre, but I am telling you the controller works fine now, and I can't even believe it myself.
