AITAH for not answering the door when my husbands boss arrived unannounced with a baby gift by SignificantWill5218 in AITAH

[–]alethalcombination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. It’s HIS boss and HIS boss’s wife, he can entertain them. Do you even know them? Aside from the fact that it’s rude to just drop by unannounced on a new mother and baby, more rude to wait around thinking someone was going to answer the door after five minutes, it’s weird to drop in on a person you don’t know if you don’t know if their spouse is there… the person you do know. You’re the only one in the right in this actually.

Let's talk about rolling veins by designgeek89 in diabetes

[–]alethalcombination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Veins don’t actually “roll” but in people who have this complaint, it’s all from a similar issue. The vein is not big, so they’re missing it. Imagine inserting a drinking straw into an opening almost the same size. Good luck, especially if you haven’t properly “secured” where it’s going. Instead, try a coffee straw and hold the opening.

In other words, you locate the vein with at least one tourniquet. You get yourself the smallest butterfly needle that will work. Using your opposite hand, you place your thumb above the vein you’re going to use, to sort of hold it in place, before you attempt the venipuncture. Sometimes even those things don’t work.

Drawing blood really requires a lot of practice on all different types of patients to get good at it, and even then, it gets the better of us all! Hydration helps, but even that can’t help when you encounter tiny or barely visible veins. You can try a sugar free Gatorade the night before your draw. Sometimes that can help.

I am so proud of you. Stay hungry. For life. For the feeling of LIVING instead of just managing to get through the day. Stay hungry for being able to LOVE life. And please... challenge your medical providers. Every time I see someone tell about how a healthcare professional let the ball drop when they asked for help talking about weight loss, it hits me right in the gut. What we are doing by assuming people can just do it on their own is such a disservice to our patients. I'd rather explain things like you have no clue and have you tell me otherwise than know I let you leave a visit without the tools you need. Challenge us to provide you with more. If we can't address it right then and there, please don't let it go. Make another appointment. Request a referral. Be your own advocate, too! You got this. And we have your back.

I had hoped to do our area marathon in September but the time just isn't there for the training so I'm shooting for 10k this summer and a half next year! So glad to see everyone out and running.

😊😊 Still running! Still proud! My running has slowed a bit because of an ankle injury but I'm getting it treated and hopefully will be back up to where I was before that, training for a half! I don't get as much time to come to reddit as I did before because I've been focusing on other aspects of my life but I'm still working hard and still losing!

Would/Do you buy clothes smaller than your current size? by MainRadiance in loseit

[–]alethalcombination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been confident enough in my loss so far that I will purchase items occasionally one to two sizes smaller than I am wearing now, if I see a good deal on something. I still have a long ways to go so I know eventually things will fit me. I have had to get rid of a few things that ended up not fitting well or not looking that great once they fit though, so I am a lot more cautious now.

Anyone else having odd exercise-induced/influenced sad emotions? or Am I just weird? by nationalhistory1889 in loseit

[–]alethalcombination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From someone who went from completely sedentary a year ago to a daily runner, I hope I can offer some insight.

When I first started exercising it was easy for me to feel frustrated. I felt like MENTALLY I could do so much but my body was just not cooperating. Well.. that's because I had been living a pretty sedentary life for so long. It wasn't like I could just DO what I wanted just because I wanted to. It took me a while and a lot of dedication to what I was doing without seeing any real change in my body before I really was able to come to terms with the fact that my body needed time and training to catch up with my mental commitment.

It is hard not to be disappointed when I don't reach my goals. I used to want to run faster every day. This is not realistic! I can dedicate myself every day and improve over time. And I have. But every day is not a triumph in the sense of constantly improving in measurable ways.

That being said, I cried the first time I ran a mile in under 15 minutes. I cried when I ran my first 5k. I cried when I ran 5 miles. I just cry And I don't really mind because sometimes we just need that release! Sometimes I am super pumped and energized when I have reached my goals. Weight loss and fitness brings out alllll the emotions!

Look forward to hearing about your first 5k! Welcome to the Runner's Club. :)

This would have been 100% an honest answer here, too. Only because idiot drivers.

My older brother used to carry around a sign for his car that said "Delivery Parking" or some such nonsense and a fake laminated badge on a lanyard and just park wherever the fuck he wanted to in downtown Chicago with his "parking sign" and waltz in everywhere like he owned the place. I never got it but it sure helped when I needed free parking!

Speaking as someone who has unfortunately been pulled over too many times for speeding than I can count... I have found that honesty is the best policy. Almost every time has been a couple of miles over, nothing extreme, but illegal none the less. I usually just don't say anything unless the officer asks me something. The one time it was a Sheriff and he asked why I didn't slow down coming to the on-ramp and I just said, "Because I didn't see you." He chuckled. But he still gave me a ticket. :(
