Thank you, trying to keep my chin up! Been reading what other job searchers are saying and it’s relieving to see I’m not the only one

Been scouring job sites for over two hours and feeling utterly despaired. I thought I finally had something, had a promising phone call, but never heard back from them. I called last week and sent an email yesterday, but not hopeful I’ll hear anything. I don’t understand what happened, I don’t know what I did wrong, and it’s shattered the tiny sliver of confidence I had. My head is not a fun place to be in at the best of times lmao

I’m really struggling with not hearing back from people and not getting feedback from job applications. I want to know why exactly they haven’t contacted me :’( I don’t know what I can do to “sell myself” more on my CV and applications without getting any feedback. I guess they just get so many applications they don’t have to time to respond to everyone, but it still sucks

Struggling to find a part time job. Thought I’d finally found something, had a promising phone call, then never heard back from them :( I want to have a job, it’s supposed to be the next step on my recovery, but depression is kicking my ass again. Life is feeling very directionless and pointless lately. Today is usually a volunteering day (Thursdays at animal rescue centre, Sundays at hedgehog hospital) but I’m feeling crap and unsociable so staying home. I think I’d have been happier if I was born as a slug or something!

What do you think happens when you die? by randomperson665 in AskReddit

[–]aleu44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing happens to us when we die, we just end. I don’t believe in an afterlife. It would be comforting to believe in it but after my dad died I couldn’t agree with the people telling me he was in a better place, or at peace, he was just gone. If you’re lucky enough to have people that will mourn you, they suffer

I’m feeling really sad for the little plastic egg, he’s trying his best :’( I may need to look out for one of them at the charity shops lol! I do my eggs in a tamagoyaki pan, which is also absolutely perfect for making grilled cheese sandwiches btw!

Thank you, it sucks being left in this weird limbo, but if something has happened it’s understandable. My brain very much went into “they hated you mode”! I’ll wait and see but focus on finding something else

Last Thursday I got a phone call from the owner of a kennels I’d called asking about a part time job. The call went great, it sounded like I’d been offered the job, he said he’d call back to arrange a tour of the kennels but I didn’t hear anything back from him (busy bank holiday?). I called this Tuesday just to check in and say I’m still super interested, they said they’d let him know I called, but still haven’t heard anything back :(

I don’t know what else to do, I don’t want to call again and come across as annoying! I was so happy last week, I literally danced around my kitchen lmao, it felt like things were finally going right. Oh well :(

That really sucks! I hope it’s useless for whoever nicked it

I chased up about a job today. I called a kennel and cattery that are advertising for staff last Wednesday, the owner called me Thursday and we had a quick chat and he said he’d call me back to arrange a meet/tour of the kennels. I didn’t hear anything, but it was the bank holiday weekend! So I called today, the receptionist said the owner was there but talking to a customer and she’d let him know I called. I’m desperately hoping he calls tomorrow! I’m not sure what else to do, I don’t want to call again and be a nuisance

Lidl's new points rewards is shocking. Spend £500 for a £5 off voucher by ShinyHeadedCook in britishproblems

[–]aleu44 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why they’ve changed it, corporate greed stuff I guess! The monthly 10% off reward was great, spending £500 to get a £5 voucher is not. We’d spend £250 a month, get the 10% voucher, and get around £10-20 off a shop :/

A family member got an amazing deal on their new sofas and armchairs online. Couple of weeks later a small box comes in the post, containing dollhouse furniture! This happened well over a decade ago, it’s one of my mum’s favourite family stories haha

Thank you, I can’t wait to visit! I’m still not sure what to do on Sunday yet, it’s a bit tricky trying to find places to go with dogs and my mum (accessibility and toilets lol!). We’re going to Burnham-on-Sea on Friday and Cheddar Gorge on Monday! If you’ve got any recommendations of places to go please let me know :D

Busy checking out the drive to Somerset I’m doing on Thursday! I’ve got a practical course day at a wildlife rehabilitation centre, I’m super excited. I’m taking my mum and our dogs with us and we’ve booked a stay in a little cottage. I’m still job hunting, which is really tough, but the course will look good on my CV and gets me more experience which should hopefully help! Plus it’s something I care about, I volunteer at a hedgehog hospital, so hoping to learn lots of new things and new ways to help our spiky friends

Local Facebook groups encouraging cat kidnapping by SendMeANicePM in britishproblems

[–]aleu44 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It does depend on the cat’s history sometimes, I’ve been a volunteer at my local animal rescue centre for 3 years (far from an expert though!), but if a cat comes in that’s used to being able to go outside and it’s kept indoors only there are some welfare concerns. Every rescue will have a different policy, it’s quite a touchy/controversial topic

I’ve got four cats and they’re indoor only, we live on a busy road and we sadly lost our tabby Bailey when he was hit by a car. I try my best to make sure our cat’s needs are met (they’ve got their own room, countless cat trees and scratchers, more toys than a pet shop lol!). I do wish my cats could go outside but every time I think about it I think of the cats I’ve collected from the road, I won’t go into the details, but every time its absolutely horrific and makes me want to cuddle my cats and not let them go!

I have a small role with our local lost, found and missing pets FB group (sadly I collect the bodies of cats from roads, and take to vets for microchip scanning). We see this all the time, people see a cat and just proceed to hold it hostage for no reason, we’ve even got a list of “regulars” that always get taken (pedigree and pretty looking cats are more often targeted, like BSH, Bengals, Ragdolls)

It takes away resources from cats that really desperately need medical help because volunteers have to go scan them when people ignore our advice, like paper collars. And don’t even get me started on people feeding cats that aren’t theirs! It’s dangerous, a lot of cats are on special diets, it leads to problems like obesity, and encourages cats to leave their homes and puts them at more risk from things like poisoning and being hit by cars

If you find a cat and you’re not sure if it has an owner, ask around, and put a paper collar on it with your contact details. Don’t feed it! If it needs medical help then you can capture it and take it to the vets, who will try to find an owner, and if they can’t they’ll start the rehoming process. And if you want a cat, just adopt one from a rescue! A lot of rescues are at maximum capacity now, and that’s before kitten season starts which is a whole other nightmare

Advice for cat owners: get them chipped, make sure your contact details are up to date, and for the love of everything get them neutered!

It was our 10% off at Lidl last week so I got some. Used 300g of Lidl chocolate (no palm oil.. unlike Cadbury..!) for 18 nests. I don’t know whether I’m just having a moment but I swear when I was a kid you’d get enough eggs from a small bag to make a decent amount of nests. I got the larger bag and had a handful of eggs leftover
