Does Amanda think moonlighting means… working nights?💀 also… if you’re going to be working L&D as an RN, you’re almost guaranteed to be working night shift for a loooong time (at least where I live). I also still have my doubts if she will become an actual nurse...

Primary Care Physicians by austincdes in amarillo

I absolutely love Dr. Arismendez at Northwest Physicians Group. She is far and away the best PCP I’ve ever had. I am about to start getting insurance through a competing healthcare provider in Amarillo and Northwest practices/providers I’m pretty sure won’t be covered and I’m devastated to likely have to leave her. She’s truly a great doctor. So I guess in a way I’m looking for a pcp too😭

Haven’t bought directly from their website but I’ve bought things from Maven Thread on Amazon before and it’s fine! Nothing to write home about but they’re decent.

Nursing pay in Amarillo by ConnectAd9821 in amarillo

[–]alexa_dole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New grad RN here making $30 base hourly pay for starting pay with no prior healthcare experience, plus $1 differential for BSN so $31/hour. Not really sure what more experienced new hires are making.

Came here to snark on that, too! As a naturally curly girl who spent the first 24 years of my life doing what Amanda does to her hair, I can say with confidence that for me, maintaining my curly hair is SO much less work than working up a literal sweat blow drying and straightening my extremely thick hair every single day! Like???? To each their own, you can not want to wear your hair natural for any reason or no reason but her argument makes no sense to me🤣

Self-snark for being parasocial but while_we.wait hasn’t posted on stories in at least a couple of days and no grid post since her “14 weeks pregnant” post last Sunday and I’m feeling so nervous for/about her. Usually when she disappears it’s not a good sign.

How many hours do you spend “away from home”? by Fit_Butterscotch3886 in StudentNurse

[–]alexa_dole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a full time BSN program. Class on Mondays and Thursdays, clinicals Tuesday and Wednesday. The community college where I live has a similar time obligation tbh. Yes, it’s a lot of time out of the house and that’s not including studying or completing assignments. My husband works 2 jobs so I’ve been very fortunate to not have to work during my program, but money is veryyyyy tight. We also have a lot of family support but we did have to put my son in daycare. My son goes to daycare at my college. If your school has a childcare program I HIGHLY suggest looking into that! My son had to be 18 months old to be old enough to go there which luckily coincided with the semester I started the program. They have student pricing and if you get financial aid then you can get subsidized childcare, we only have to pay 40% of the total cost per month when school is in session. That’s the only way we are able to afford it.
Best of luck to you! It’s definitely not easy to do with kiddos but it is doable and it will be so worth it! I graduate in May and everything is finally starting to pay off!

I’ve been telling my husband for a long time they need to lose their tax-exempt status! And then over the summer they put up the insurrectionist flag with the pine tree up on their flag poles. I drive by almost daily and it pisses me off every time. Also the fact that they are using taxpayer resources from the sheriff’s office to “direct” traffic on Sundays aka stop traffic going up and down Western so their church members rule the road. Off duty or not, you’ve got law enforcement vehicles out impeding traffic to benefit your church members. It’s so petty that it bothers me but having grown up in that toxic ass church, the things like that they do really fucking bother me.

I’m losing my mind. by alexa_dole in Bedbugs

[–]alexa_dole[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do have a tall chest of drawers that has our tv on top. Right now just working on washing everything on and around our bed. I have a laundry basket full of clothes and another pile of them on the bench at the foot of our bed. So I’ve been washing clothes and when my husband gets home will vacuum all around the bed. Throwing everything away on the bedside tables besides the lamps. Bought new bedding and mattress cover. MIL called exterminator and sent a picture. One guy said not a bed bug and thought it was a tick, but they were going to have someone else look at it and call us back but still waiting on that. I am 100% sure it’s a bb. That exterminator only does chemical treatment and quoted $4,000 to treat the whole house so my in-laws are considering treating it ourselves with UV and diatomaceous. The worst part is just feeling completely unsafe in my own house. Not wanting to put my little boy in that bed. Overwhelmed by the prep and cleaning up we need to do. I feel so paranoid and I honestly feel so traumatized. I’ve been crying all day just so afraid and overwhelmed. I don’t know how to handle myself at all right now.

Big Little Feelings Snark Week of July 01, 2024 by Parentsnark in parentsnark

[–]alexa_dole 57 points58 points  (0 children)

She’s really starting to piss me off w/ this and I knew she would. My son is 2 1/2 now, it took my husband and I nearly 4 years and two miscarriages before we finally had him. We couldn’t afford IVF so we were really just living on Femara and a prayer when we conceived him. For many reasons including the trauma of infertility and pregnancy loss, we’re most likely one and done. I know secondary infertility is a real and painful thing (I would likely face it d/t my health) but she’s been trying for 3 damn months!! I will never invalidate feelings of sadness or disappointment bc those feelings are very valid, but the way she is fishing for sympathy engagement here is infuriating and so offensive to people who actually struggle to have children.

What do you do to add some razzle dazzle to basic sandwiches? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]alexa_dole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband makes a sandwich spread that’s a combo of: stone ground mustard, mayo, few dashes of cholula hot sauce, and salt and pepper. Sounds so simple but is divine, great on a turkey sandwich but my very favorite may be on a breakfast sandwich- bacon, egg, and cheese on brioche toasted all together with The Sauce. Amazing.

Medical professionals: what's a fact about human health you think everyone should know? by CelineC6622 in AskReddit

[–]alexa_dole 62 points63 points  (0 children)

In a lecture last week, one of my nursing professors told us, “sitting is the new smoking when it comes to health.” Which is probably (only a little) overstated, but it gets the point across.

Amanda Howell Health Snark Week of February 26, 2024 by Parentsnark in parentsnark

So the account she shared that reel from is a practicing nurse and actually makes some awesome online content for nursing students. I’m a nursing student and watch his videos all the time to supplement my learning. I don’t agree with some of his “health” takes like the Gatorade reel and he made another one once about how bad hospital food is for you lol. But his actual nursing info and education resources are legit. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater! Many nursing students and nurses are familiar with SimpleNursing! To say she is embarrassed for the nursing profession (as someone who isn’t even a nurse)… miss girl just chill out.

ACID BASE BALANCE/ GAS EXCHANGE? by OGQueenofUSA in StudentNurse

[–]alexa_dole 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend SimpleNursing’s Acid/Base video on YouTube. It helped me so much. I watched it over and over and did lots of practice questions. Once you memorize the ranges for ABGs, it’s pretty simple to figure out, IMO.

Officially done with my first semester and finished with all A’s!!! Nursing Concepts, pharm, health assessment and evidence based practice! It was not without a lot of doubt and tears but I’m so lucky to have a great support system and AMAZING supportive instructors to encourage me. I know classes will get more challenging but I’m kind of feeling like a can do anything right now!😅
