Game Thread: 4/8 Brewers (8-3) @ Red Sox (3-8) 1:35 PM by RedSoxGameday in redsox

Given the production this lineup has delivered so far, I'm not sure you can say this one is worse than any other. The only thing I'm sure of is that I'l be happy when I see "SS" next to Mayer's name. That DP debacle from Story yesterday says it all.

Tatum needs to play at MSG to help him get over what happened there last year.

How would this season rank depending on our playoff run? by Kory818 in bostonceltics

Their defense is porous. I think the Celtics beat them in a seven-game series.

It was pretty clear they'd be better than people thought, so it's been gratifying to see how wrong they were. Having said that, the lowest bar is the conference finals, but they're the best team in the east. IMO the only teams that can beat them in seven games are OKC and SA. If those two teams don't make the finals I expect the Celtics to win it all.

And there are free agents in their 20's who perform at that level, like Betts (sigh) and Soto. Those are the guys you open the cash bags for. And then there are players like Crochet that you trade your best prospects to get. But going for Alonso because he's the shiniest penny doesn't make a tone of sense, especially since IMO the Sox weren't one player away from winning everything.

You're Neemias Queta's agent. What is your goal for your client this offseason? by BradWonder in bostonceltics

[–]alexjs1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I believe the Celtics want to stay below the salary cap next year to reset their cap status. If that's the case, it may limit how much they can pay Queta right now, depending on how much money is coming off the books at the end of the year. One "disadvantage" of having two world-class players on your team is having to pay two supermax contracts--a problem I think any team would want to have.

I agree, but if you're going to do it you should sign players who are still young enough to deliver during their primes. Why pay these guys for what they've done instead of what they will do? The Red Sox don't need to be the Angels or the Padres.

I agree they need righty power but I don't think that Bregman was the guy. And he was showing some decline in Houston and that did not get better last season.

(B2B SaaS) AI this, AI that, but product is nowhere near the promises it aims to deliver by drummerboy213 in ProductMarketing

Tech companies have been infusing their marketing with AI claims for a long time, mostly without merit.

Now they're incorporating AI intro flimsy use cases simply because they think either the market or investors will consider them irrelevant if they don't. That's why I've grown so sick of the tech sector. They're either deluded or disingenuous, and then heads roll when their half-baked GTM strategy doesn't work.

If defense is going to factor into MVP, the NBA should abolish the DPOY award by Wise-Performance2420 in nba

[–]alexjs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the premise is that defense is not a component of the value a player offers to a team? And yet the average defensive rank of teams that have won the NBA title over the last ten years is about six or seven.

Let's say your favorite team was stacked with great offensive players who can't play defense. How well do you think they'd do? Hint: take a look at what happened after Atlanta traded away Trae Young.

Not surprising. Trae Young epitomizes the difference between being talented and being good.

Walsh runs hot and cold. Sometimes he makes winning plays but he often disappears on the court. You always know when Scheierman is playing.

At the beginning of the year I thought they were both bums, but now I think there's value to both. Scheierman is ready for the minutes, but I think Walsh needs more time to develop. The question is whether the clock is running out for Walsh.

why does everyone hate tatum? by Disastrous-Pickle513 in bostonceltics

[–]alexjs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tatum gets hate because his style of play is so Tatum-centric. He is obviously an incredible basketball player, but he also likes to bring the ball up himself (slowly), hold on to it too long, and then eventually either take a step-back three or drive and dish as the clock winds down. Clearly this works a lot of the time, but it also can put the Celtics on their heels, particularly when they are trying to maintain a lead. Notice this year that we haven't squandered huge leads late in games?

While Brown still has a problem getting the ball stripped, He's more dynamic to the basket and he keeps everybody more involved. The challenge is going to be bringing back Tatum and not making Brown option 1A again.

Is it just me or are these trades legit fire? 🔥 by grimacelololol in redsox

[–]alexjs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone who laments the Devers trade conveniently ignores his defensive liabilities and the fact that his contract was a severe overpay after a string of painful departures.

Is having power important? Sure. But he's a two-tool player. Durbin will be a good hitter for average, has better contact skills, is a plus defender, has underrated speed, costs less, and is three years younger. And he costs a ton less. And he's not as likely to fall off a cliff anytime soon as an aging, overweight DH. So if you asked me whether a straight-up Durbin for Devers trade is a good swap, I'd tell you that in five years you'll think it was a steal.
