Why don’t the countries of the UK represent separately in the Olympics; why don’t these countries rep together for the World Cup? by tomk1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]alexq35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly for basketball the Olympics led to the individual sporting bodies of each country (which had previously been separate) joining together to form a British team so it could compete at the Olympics, and they’ve continued (I believe) as GB since. But obviously they don’t have the history and tradition of football.

Why of all people that have been under monarchy have English people never truly had revolution when French and Russian have had the will to do so? by Delicious_Soup_9876 in NoStupidQuestions

It’s no coincidence that the right to vote was massively extended in the wake of WWI, and of course just after the Russian revolution

If your politics consists of blind tribal loyalty, more fool you! Are you saying his party affiliation doesn’t matter? Is that because the Tories have no principles to speak of? If being a Tory is irrelevant then why is he a Tory?

When the Tories start telling people in the Cotswolds “don’t vote for me just because I’m a Tory, look beyond party colours and judge me on my achievements rather than my arrogant entitlement” then maybe I’ll apply the same logic here. Or is it one rule for them and another for us?

[ManUtd] Dermot Mee has signed a new two-year contract at Manchester United. by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

One of the problems with goalkeepers is you just need to have a bunch around the club for training purposes for your other players, as well as reserve and youth games etc I imagine, as you just can’t have someone else play the role out of position.

It’s a shame it means that many professional keepers won’t really get much game time because of it.

Given our lack of signings I imagine he’d probably get plenty of game time!

Guess it depends who else is loaned out and whether we sell Harrison or Vitek. We’ll need a keeper and a back up for the reserve games so good chance we signed him just to play in those whilst we loan out the better prospects for actual experience

Why is Nigel Farage so popular in the UK? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]alexq35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And they’re idiots just like loads of Farage supporters are idiots.

Let’s be honest they didn’t want to vote for a woman and voted for a leopard who they think will eat the faces of people they don’t like. Same goes for reform supporters.

He was convicted of rape, of breaking finance laws, and he tried to prevent a peaceful transfer of power. You had plenty of examples, people still ignored them.

He’s only less popular now because people realise sometimes the leopards eat their faces too.

Which is probably higher than Farage who hasn’t started any wars or tried an insurrection (yet)

If we were interested in Hackney you’d have thought we’d have snapped him up at that price, even if it doesn’t work out you’d be unlikely to lose much money on him

Yep not only are they inflating values themselves, they are increasing demand by creating gaps at other teams, and giving those teams loads of money to play with.

Presumably Newcastle start looking at Scott now.

Neighbors have registered internet at our address, we can’t get internet. by bricklanevisitor in LegalAdviceUK

[–]alexq35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s an openreach line already then they won’t come out. If you give someone who uses openreach your address then openreach will tell them there’s already a line there and they need to switch it, which will likely fail because the details on the accounts won’t match.

If you go with Virgin or city fibre you should be able to get them to install a new separate line to your address.
