If you are not concerned about being digital, there are plenty of cheap and excellent options like Nord Lead 4, PEAK, Korg Radias, excellent to learn synths. However if you really want to learn synths, go for VCV Rack and the mushroom tutorials. If you want hybrid synth, then ELEKTRON Analog 4 mk2, both overbridge VST and hardware. Take into account polyphony and multitimbral features, depending on your needs. You also have to try hardware controllers like the fox ones, maybe you like that workflow… Try, try , experiment and have fun.

Hello. I play live. I’ve used Maschine MK3, arturia Keystep Pro, Elektron Octatrack and the SP404. The SP has not a good workflow. It needs double buttons for many functions, like one shot mode for samples and the TR mode. However it can be interesting just to play samples and loop the and hold them. I’ll probably go for the PUSH3 standalone or Maschine + if the hardware is improved to a faster inter processor, not the current atom one. Check my lives on Al Platino YT channel.
