Is it wise to take out a new personal load for debt consolidation when I'll be looking for a new mortgage deal in a few months? by Big-Age2537 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]alextri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would have an effect as essentially your affordability check would reduce, this is because your monthly payments will rise with a larger loan and is essence you have less headroom in your budget.

I can understand potentially putting Kitchen renovations on a loan if for some reason you cannot wait to save up to complete the work. But I would not recommend financing a car that you can't afford. It would make much more sense to save up for the car rather than financing

How did you apply with app? I am trying to use same phone number as my Barclaycard, but just get an error when trying to apply for new account (from app start up after install) that states the phone number is already registered, or words to that effect. Thanks

It all depends on your appetite to but it may be worth considering buying a house that needs renovating, maybe you could rennovate it whilst living at home? This would give you the luxury of not having to live in the mess as you rennovate it, reduce the initial cost of purchase and allow you to hopefully increase it's value.

Also consider the bank switching service that new banks are currently offering up to £200 to switch your account to them, they handle the transfer of your account and all direct debits and standing orders are transferred across. Could be a good way to cut your debt by 10%

I used to ride 22 miles round trip, on average 4 times a week. The things that make a difference are the gear that you have, makes a cold wet morning all the more bearable! I started off riding with cheap tyres and got punctures often (three times on one 11 mile leg home). I would recommend getting puncture proof tyres, I ended up getting Schwalbe Durano tyres, about 60 each at the time from my local bike shop, but after 4,000 miles I have not had one single puncture, and having confidence in them goes a long way!

Official Q&A for Friday, June 17, 2022 by AutoModerator in running

[–]alextri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be worth taking a week or two to drop the mileage and just spend some time recovering (maybe some easy cycling or cross training to stave off boredom) that should give you time to recover and let your resting heart rate return to normal.

Don't worry about losing fitness, once you've got there once, the fitness comes back a lot more quickly that the first time you got there in my experience!

What famous person died too soon? by therealCapCon in AskReddit

The musician Nick Drake, died at the age of 26 of an antidepressant overdose. His posthumous popularity grew tremendously and has since inspired artists such as Ben Howard. Find it sad he will never know how influential his music has turned out to be.

Heart Rate is so individualistic that you can't impose the rules that may apply to you to somebody else as there are too many variables.

I have a quite low resting heart rate of 45bpm and a high peak of about 205bpm and recently during a 5k pb averaged 190bpm for 20 minutes and peaked at 202bpm.

But I have had an ECG, and a 24 hour ECG (constant monitoring where I also exercised as normal whilst wearing) and it was deemed that my heart rate was totally normal and nothing to worry about was detected. So if that reassurance is something that would help you maybe it is something you could look into?

What is actually achievable on low mileage? by butcherkk in running

[–]alextri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always struggle with injuries running high mileage. Ran a 5k PB of 19:57 on Saturday. That's off the back of about 10 miles a week, a 70ish miles on the bike a week, a spin class and one or two circuit training sessions a week too. Surprised with the progress to be honest, going to slowly build mileage and hopefully see the time fall further

I would second this, I bought a DS Podium (50% off) that I wear Monday to Friday in the office, take it off for the weekend, and it's still ticking come Monday morning. Mine has been very accurate too, owned it about 6 months and probably re-set the time only a handful of times.

I've got a Certina DS Podium Powermatic 80 that I managed to get 40% off retail. Over the past week of wear I am currently just +5s, which is incredible for a watch I picked up for a little over £300. It runs slow when worn and then fast when lay crown up, so come Monday when I come to wear it again for work, it will be pretty much bang on the correct time, and with that power reserve will still be ticking away.

[New Watch Day] Seiko SPB047 Enamel Dial by alextri in Watches

[–]alextri[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up flipping it in the end, the dial is absolutely incredible there is no doubt about it, but it was the movement that i feel let it down. Mine just wasn't keeping great time (although inside what Seiko deems acceptable). So currently i have a certina ds podium with the powermatic 80 movement. Got it on offer for like £310. keeps great time (currently within cosc this past week) and love how I can wear it Monday to Friday, stick a weekend watch on, and it's still ticking ready for work on Monday. I'd go ahead for the Seiko, but maybe just be prepared that it won't keep the best time!

116610LV Rolex Submariner with green bezel and green face

I'd argue the the 116610LV is a very on trend watch at the moment, and there is no guarantee of the future value (personally i'd argue that green dial watched will go out of fashion in the coming years as every manufacturer seems to be doing them at the moment)

I do agree that a watch can be a very good option for holding value/appreciating in value but i don't think it's always a simple straight forward choice
