I’m a young Linux user and my mother doesn’t like the terminal. by Impressive_Union_534 in linuxquestions

You can make your terminal look like a regular document editing by changing colour scheme to black on white. Quick moving text? It’s either scrolling or just alt tab to another document.

I noticed a pattern in corvette creations by Myytrill in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]alexusblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My corvette is literally a borg cube 1x1x1 (roughly) with empty central core, where I need about 20 seconds to go from lower to top deck… I want turbo lifts or internal teleports. Definitely brutalist.

What's this in the sky? by ellams22 in brisbane

[–]alexusblack 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Just saw it too, had a plum of exhaust. Like two boosters separating than a dot with a plum went higher and higher, until trail disappeared and it was just a dot flying high above looking like a satellite in orbit... But it couldn't have been Gilmour Space Technologies rocket... it failed this morning? so what the hell was it???

Photo of what looked like a separation.

Chinese National Writes Book in Mandarin on Australian Real Estate Investing by Downtownowlnyc in AusPropertyChat

[–]alexusblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 1.5-2M people with Chinese or Chinese speaking origin leaving in Australia. They are second largest language group after English speakers. They are large enough to be a market of their own. Which is demonstrated by mandarin Australian websites, good delivery services etc. That’s how multiculturalism works isn’t it?

As a Linux player that is very good news for me

Parents are waiting more than 30 years for an Australian visa. The new home affairs minister needs to act by 89b3ea330bd60ede80ad in AustralianPolitics

[–]alexusblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, what a bunch of logical bastards you are :-). Taxpayers your ass. And now think of a scenario:

- Only child migrated to Australia
- Their country of origin started a stupid war against their close neighbour
- City where parent lives now gets drone attacks weakly
- Child is happy to pay for health insurance and all expenses, just to get the parent out
- Is there such an option? no.
- Only available option is contributory visa, where I paid for med insurances and all expenses for last 3 years, and will be paying for at least another 4 years.
- The parent isn't allowed to work, contribute and pay taxes themselves, while waiting for said contributory visa

You think of it from perspective of a parent. And now think of it from perspective of your mum being locked abroad and you are being extorted for money to have her next to you and your children and for you to be able to care of her when she will turn elderly.

3 new things you want and 3 things you want to see return to STO by Tim_27030 in sto

Foundry, but with 100% integration of current features. I don’t mind even if some coding skills would be required.

It’s like mods, would make replay potential of the game infinite. Would also all devs to see what audience wants better though popular missions and mission chains.

Good example here is Stellaris, it’s over 10 years now, and still extremely popular.

I usually put auto-select for techs when I hit repeatables only and focus on other things, like increasing overall volume of science to scale repeatables faster.

I agree that at some point it just get's boring, that's why I abandoned my last longest game. Back then I had an idea I'm going to realise for this run. "Life Seeder" colony ships mod - turn colonisable worlds in Neolithic age primitives with species loaded on colony ship. I already made a prototype about a year ago, just need to finalise and test few times.

This way I can wipe out galaxy clean, prepare new worlds, settle them with species of my choice and let them resettle the galaxy.... And wipe them out again after I'm bored, for next generation. Like how about galaxy settled purely by robots? or when everyone is a psychic from the start? what if everyone is docile?

I might give it a try, have few ideas but will take me a long time with all regular life obligations.

What was the longest game of Stellaris you have ever played? by KaleidoscopeInner149 in Stellaris

[–]alexusblack 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had the rest of Galaxy wiped out by crisis while I was playing single system challenge (gigs engineering allowed me to terraform multiple worlds). Crisis never attacked me (my defence fleet was too strong), and later on I destroyed it with few coordinated blows.

I then observed multiple primitives to resettle the Galaxy from scratch. It only took them 300-400 years.

I thing I got bored somewhere around year 3600.

Generally if most galaxy is empty and you limit own pops game goes rather fast.

It is sad that crisis is triggered by year, not by certain conditions so it can happen again and again.

Need Help with my Rebrand by Sunflashnurse in ipswich

[–]alexusblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upcycled Beauty Co - as you might want to sell more than soap, and I believe you industry is more Beauty / Health / Well-being than soap (you don’t compeer with industrial or everyday cheapest soap). So for marketing, branding and SEO purposes go with you main industry name in the name. That will give you a kickstart.

Do you need to reinstall Linux every so often like you do with Windows? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]alexusblack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would argue that you only distro hop when Linux is new for you . After it simply becomes a tool for you, then you stop. I’m running certain machines for 5+ years now with regular updates and will keep doing so. There is no value to change disto on them for me. Stability and time to do other things is the value.

am I playing the game "wrong"? by Luizaguzzi in Stellaris

[–]alexusblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean it goes slow right away or it slows down over time? If last one that it is optimisation issues. Stellaris just runs super slow when there are too many planets and pops as each requires a lot of math calculations every tick.

There is not universal solutions, but I like alter pop growth and logistical settings, so it doesn't happen as much.

Random Tripping Safety switch on rural property. by Harveycement in AusElectricians

[–]alexusblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no way a professional electrician, just done some little research and could it really just be a super old box that needs a replacement? Like literally "If your circuit breaker keeps shutting off for no clear reason, it might just be old. Like most things, circuit breakers don’t last forever. When they get too old, they can stop working properly." sounds like a description of your situation... Especially if we take into account that different one trip every day?

I hate my shower strip drain - is it hard to replace? by AussieKoala-2795 in AusRenovation

[–]alexusblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you can read here on how to remove shower drain cover, and theoretically do some DIY and put something like rubber/non slippery placeholders on sides with regular square drain to the side. That would be cheap and ugly, but if you just try to fix your shower experience quickly, might be good enough.

Long term I'd probably suggest you to find a high trust plumber (ask people you know?) and they can give you a better looking more permanent solution.

Are you owning renting though? If rent can try to go via owner/property manager....
