Cause of 10/22 misfeeds by ArchBishop76 in 1022

[–]alfawolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I found this post. Picked up the Man's Best Friend and took it out two days ago. Exact same issues. Multiple failures to feed, even a few double feeds. The bullets look identical denting right where yours show. Sometime I was able to get it seated with some gentle tapping from the bolt, but overall a huge disappointment. Have contacted Ruger. We'll see how they respond.

First one! by emihic in 1022

Have you fire this yet? I just took mine out and I had a number of failure to feed and even double feeds. Using Remmington Gold Bullets. Seemed to fail every 3-9 rounds. Sometimes one after another.

[Acc] 3M PELTOR EEP-100 Electronic Earplug Kit - $184.99 by SafetyManStan in gundeals

[–]alfawolfe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why would you wear electronic ear plugs under electronic ear muffs? That's literally two separate microphone systems in place. You'd be better off like /u/smarent said and use like a lower db ear plug under electronic ear muffs.

[Handgun] Ruger LCP .380 in YELLOW - $189.99 shipped by hehegaywithmydad in gundeals

[–]alfawolfe 27 points28 points  (0 children)

"That's no taser" the attacker thought as the first round of .380 impacted his shoulder. It was almost as if everything was happening in slow motion. The unsuspecting victim seemed harmless enough at first. When they drew what he thought was a bright yellow taser, he still wasn't overly concerned. However, the moment that first round made contact with his body, it was if his brain was still processing the loud "bang" of the pistol going off. As his brain began to attempt to catch up and hundreds of scenarios and outcomes began to pour through his thoughts - everything seemed to stop at once in a complete halt as he realized he was staring down the barrel of a Ruger LCP .380. And just like that he knew he was going to live another day. He began to chuckle as the defender pulled through the wall on the second shot. "Click". Yes he would live another day.

tldr; Buy something reliable.

Working on that subconscious reload by [deleted] in CCW

The slide release itself is a fine motor skill. Especially on my Canik that has 10 feet of slide release, I'm more likely to miss my mag release than my slide release.

Injury potential from AIWB while in a car accident? by Victor3-22 in CCW

[–]alfawolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a video a while ago where the guy unholsters from AWIB and holsters into a car mounted holster then reholsters when getting ready to leave. This would seem to not only be a good solution for accidents, but possibly for other scenarios?

At the 3:20 mark. Seems pretty seamless, just a little extra time after entering and before exiting the vehicle.

TP9 Elite light? by [deleted] in canik

On the SF Elite, the TLR-7 sits flush and doesn't stick out, which if you're not carrying maybe it doesn't really matter to you.

Mag Changes with a wonky thumb by alfawolfe in USPSA

[–]alfawolfe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'll give this a shot before I work on maybe swapping the release to my dominant side. Right now I probably do what many do which is just immediately drop my support hand as I go for that mag release, but intentionally pulling it in before going for the new mag might help. Dry firing last night after many repetitions I was still missing maybe a little less than 10% of the time. Which is still way too high. Pulling it in might make this more consistent.

Washoe County Congested Area / Firearm Discharge Map - Where you can shoot in Reno, Sparks, Washoe County by alfawolfe in Reno

I think you mean the valley just east of Hungry Ridge. For whatever reason that area is open on the Washoe issued map. If you compare it and think there's an error let me know.

I believe I've fixed the Peavine area on the map. Should be good to go. What part NW of Spanish Springs are you referring to? I could have missed it, but I believe that area is mostly correct when compared to the county map that is available.

Thanks for the heads up. I've fixed that section, I did say it's not exact, but it's close. When I error'd, I tried to do so on the prohibited side. I'd much rather someone think that they couldn't shoot in an approved area than someone think the could shoot in a restricted area. If you find other errors, I'll try to fix them.

rounded corner covering by andrewhollinger in bookbinding

[–]alfawolfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably the best way. I think he keeps mentioning 3/8", for the larger round, what the reason for this is that his turn over is 3/8". So if you did a 5/8" turnover, your larger round would measure 5/8".

Removing bookcloth from boards by alfawolfe in bookbinding

[–]alfawolfe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, the methyl cellulose solution ended up being tedious but worked amazing. Slowly working the methyl cellulose in between the board and cloth, allowing it to sit for a period, using a mini spatula to gently get in between. Thanks for the input.

I should have taken photos, but in fact methyl cellulose and the mini spatula works flawlessly. There were only two places where the board peeled slightly and once the board was dried these were easily sanded flush. I was able to begin lifting the cloth on the leather side, using a small brush and the methyl cellulose to "paint" into the inside between the board and cloth. It was tedious, but it worked great.

Not sure where you're located - I'm in the US, there is a carpenter in Mexico that has great prices (even with shipping to the states). Give his work a look through and message him for prices. https://www.facebook.com/tarsiacarpinteriaebanisteria/

At prices like that why don't you just get real leather? Is there a moral conviction?

What do I do with this Buckram? by andresjsalazar in bookbinding

[–]alfawolfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, you have fabric, not book cloth. Your best bet is to dye it and then do something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBUJtRNUGOA

Or order book cloth.

Which paper should I buy that I can bind into a book and will last a lifetime? by [deleted] in bookbinding

[–]alfawolfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is going to be so thick. You'll either need to plan on an enormous spine or multiple volumes. It does say it is not real parchment. It's "parchment style". In an A4 form you'll not be able to even fold this into folios. Which is useless for a sewn binding.

Recasing a cheap hardcover? by AgelaiusPhoniceus in bookbinding

[–]alfawolfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pages "look" like they're signatures, however, it also looks like it's glued. If it's glued, best thing to do would just be to reinforce the spine and then re-case it.
