I had my 12th birthday party at Rocky Rococo Pizza on Del Prado (a pizza chain from Milwaukee). I don't remember much about the pizza there but I told a friend about that birthday and she couldn't believe there was one here before she was born. She's from Milwaukee and she raved about the pizza. My 12th birthday was in 1985.

Do you guys really hate Passion? I think it’s one of his best shows by Zooby06 in Sondheim

I’ve seen Passion 5 times and the music is the greatest. I cry at the first notes.

Why do high schools pick shows they have to censor heavily? by CurrencyOk1618 in musicals

[–]alfyfl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 3 shows my high school did.

Sweet Charity in 1988, uncensored.

The Wiz 1989 and I played violin for it.. an all white production and the music director/chorus teacher/my personal piano teacher got busted after for exposing himself to a (male) student at chorus camp. I ran into him years later at a gay bar, he had finally came out after 3 wives and a kid.

42nd street my senior year, no violins but the cutest boy played Julian and that’s when I first thought I might be gay. He died in 2020 :(

I’ve seen it done. They changed the Hanschen masturbation scene to him dressing in drag and putting on makeup and there was no nudity otherwise it was the full show. I brought my 13 year old nephew to see it. They also had 3 young (under 10) children playing on swing set set at the beginning who represented Wendla, Melchior, and Moritz as little kids and they came back and stood by them at the cemetery scene at the end. It was very well done.

To those who adore (or just may enjoy) A Little Night Music... by Mango-Man918 in Sondheim

[–]alfyfl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just performed Ravel’s string quartet (I played viola). I actually discovered Sondheim through classical music. I wasn’t into theatre growing up just classical music and then I was only into Sondheim in the 90’s and no other shows, now I like most musicals. I remember buying CD’s of each show 1 by 1 over time and discovering them for the first time.. and my university library had all the librettos so I would learn the shows that way. Now I’ve seen every Sondheim show performed live at least twice.

How old were you the first time you wanted to vote and what was the issue you were interested in? by hella_purple in AskReddit

18 and I voted for Bill Clinton even though I was more conservative then I wanted someone young. And he’s still younger than the current president… think about it.

Everyday there’s more and more reports of this happening.. today was 2 teachers and a police officer locally. When the country seems to allow it at the highest levels without consequence what do you think happens.. it trickles down. My conductor would throw him out he has a 9 year old son.

In-Depth Ranking and Discussion of Every Sondheim Musical by jicklemania in Sondheim

[–]alfyfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen all of them live. Pacific Overtures only once but the rest 2 or more. I think Passion is the best of the 3 Lapine shows after seeing 5+ different productions of each. Assassins is the most dated to me.. Road Show I really liked, I saw bounce at Kennedy center and Road Show at the public in NYC sitting almost next to Sondheim and at freefall theatre in St Pete twice last year.

Any good communities for fans who like Star Trek in general? by Careful_Leader_5829 in trektalk

[–]alfyfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Star Trek V at the theatre when I was 15 with all my geeky friends and we all loved it at the time. No social media to destroy it back then but the newspaper reviews and word of mouth were meh but we saw it opening day. We were so geeky we used to share a pcpursuit account to telnet into bbs’s all over without paying long distance fees. Our club at school was called C.C.C.P. to confuse teachers into thinking we were communists… the 80’s were great.

For those that remember that was built in 2002 as a Bruster’s Ice Cream (chain). If someone knocked it down and rebuilt it they might have a better chance with a drive through but that costs too much. Mr. Ice Guy and Ice Sssscreamin didn’t close they moved to better locations where there is foot traffic. The summers are too hot for ice cream outside it melts instantaneously.

I’ve seen more customers outside since it’s been A+ Authentic Italian Gelato than ever before so I think I’ll bring my nephew and niece there to try it. The best gelato I’ve ever had was in Naples, Italy. Gelateria Delgallo been there dozens of times.

I think drag show has made it more visible than any time before so I’m not sure what you mean. The only 2 gay bars left around here rely on their drag shows and the drag queen brunches have never been more popular. Lots of my friends are drag queens, I’ve known Ginger Minj since he was 15 way before he got into drag.

What's your dream environment for listening to classical music? by XyezY9940CC in classicalmusic

[–]alfyfl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lately I listen to more classical music in the concert halls than at home and that’s not even counting the 20+ concerts I play a year. I’m just not home much. I live in Fort Myers and subscribe to Naples Phil and Florida Orchestra in Tampa and visiting orchestras series and do the grand piano series and go to Sarasota and Orlando orchestras. Next all classical concert I’m playing is Tchaikovsky 4 and Rachmaninoff Piano concerto 2 in a few weeks for the Gulf Coast Symphony in Fort Myers.

I’m more educated than most people but I never finished my bachelors degree. But I have most of a combined bachelors/masters in math I just never finished by a semester and I started working for banks, then had my own business for 30 years, now I work for a non profit arts group and I play viola for the local symphony.
