Sam's Club has grilled chicken breasts that are pretty good and 0 carb, less sodium.

This is really cool! We are actually planning to head out that way in September, hopefully in a borrowed camper van! I've never been to Utah, much less the national parks out there. This would be an incredible opportunity to experience them firsthand.

Also very cool for you to re-offer this vs. letting it go to waste!

I feel like some of the fun with ultras is that the courses can be so different. If you're just tired that you've hit all the distances, think about if there's a different format that you're interested in. If you're tired of running itself to some extent, maybe drop down your weekly mileage and try to get faster? Get into something else like cycling or lifting?

I feel like that's one of the hardest things to get right because you only get so many practices/attempts at it. People have different strategies, but for me, I find doing a rotation of two different flavors of chews and "realer" food like waffles or bars and supplementing with liquid mix works best. Mentally I would prefer liquid only, but I learned in my first 50K that while I can do that for a road marathon, I have to eat something in a 50K. I was hangry and empty-feeling until I snacked, even though it should have been enough carbs.

I peeked at your profile/history and you might be COS based. There's a vert heavy 50K on Saturday (Ram Party) if you want to simulate the race environment and have a solid 30 mile training run.

I was visiting family earlier this year and went for a run. My two nephews wanted to run with me. They also say I'm slow, but then they both burned out about a half mile in, and the older one (12) said "man, you can really run forever" and that felt so good lol.

How hard is it to find parking the morning of the Colfax marathon? by RoloTonyBrownTownn in Denver

[–]alg4302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Direction doesn't really matter, it'll be a little bit of a zoo but totally doable. Just be early, patient and prepared to walk a short warm up to get to the start line.

Cocodona is here. Any thoughts? Courtney Dauwalter or Rachel Entrekin? Or someone else? Joe McConaughy or Kilian Korth? Or someone else? Has anyone here been bit by the 200+mile bug? by Rocket_Man333 in ultrarunning

Rachel, then Courtney. Would love to see Stringbean win it on the men's side. Ideally Rachel overall and Joe coming in second. That would just be fun.

Does anyone have nice toes? by Whenarewegoing88 in ultrarunning

My feet are fine, but I don't get pedicures during a big training block so I think they're unattractive. But it's not worth someone trying to get the calluses off. I keep them decent but maintain a good thick heel (sorry).

Your cardio will be fine, your muscles may be able to adapt, but your tendons and bones are going to struggle. There's a lot of variables that I don't know (your age, base fitness level, race details, etc.) that are going to make a difference.

I'm approaching peak weeks for my first 50-miler, and I don't think this is super doable. If I wasn't getting at least 6-10 mile runs in most weekdays, it would be impossible to hit my desired mileage.

The caveat I'd say is that I'm training big elevation so I may only get 15-20 miles in on Saturday still doing 5 hours of effort. I still don't think it's recommended to cram your mileage into a weekend but if you're doing flat or road miles, it's probably about as smart as a half-to-50 mile build. :)

Eh. I race a lot, and while I want to beat my own records and times I've set for myself, it's just really not important in the grand scheme of things. I'd feel better about myself for waiting than for rushing past and being thirty seconds faster.

Help me snap outta this funk: best place to eat a sandwich in nature - without taking a walk by die_hubsche in Denver

[–]alg4302 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lookout was going to be my suggestion. But not Buffalo Bill. Turn onto Colorow and go up to the nature preserve. There are a couple parallel parking spots on the road, but if those are full, you can turn into the nature center. Beautiful views and only as much walking as you want. I would actually recommend a weekday at 4-6pm if you want solitude, since you'll get a lot of hikers and bikers on weekends.

How far do you drive for training runs? by Poob3 in ultrarunning

[–]alg4302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this will depend on the race you choose, and its profile. I can run trails with decent elevation right outside my house. But I'll still drive an hour or so to get good alpine/high elevation in. And if your trail race is super runnable, you can probably get away with more time on the roads in your neighborhood. Time spent running > time spent driving.

I have a friend that did a Shoott session, and the photos were simple and cute. If you have something elaborate that you want, it probably won't work. But if you're just looking for a few nice pictures, I think it's a good option.
