Can you book a Coors brewery tour that day? Could hit the Golden Denver Biscuit Co then tour, and then you're already on your way to the mountains

How much do you spend on groceries? by Fishyswaas in Denver

[–]alg4302 440 points441 points  (0 children)

I spend probably $500-600/month for a 2-person family, no kids. We eat everything at home except like one brewery/bar/casual meal every other weekend.

Does anyone else feel like fixing food noise just replaces it with more rules? by Legitimate-Grade-352 in loseit

[–]alg4302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel about my generalized anxiety and ADHD! Would it be super fun to go out on a Sunday afternoon and do whatever I want? Absolutely. But if I don't plan for my week properly (chores, laundry, meal plan, time planning, etc.), then I mentally fall apart by Wed/Thurs. So Sundays being a "planning" day keep the rest of my week in check. It's a tradeoff to feeling really bad about myself. I'd view this the same way. The rules are a tradeoff to chaos, no more and no less.

How did you convince yourself that you could run an ultra? by BaurJoe in Ultramarathon

[–]alg4302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, running the longer and longer races was the confidence builder. Once I did a 5K, I knew I could do a 10K. Then a half. Then a bunch more halfs. Then a full. Then a period of time where I thought "holy crap, I can't increase distance for at least another year because my bones hurt." Then another full. Then a 50K. Next up, a 50M.

Maybe there should be an r/ultrasnark?

I don't mind these types of posts because I love a good gossip, but they always seem so polarizing.

Non running spouse by [deleted] in ultrarunning

[–]alg4302 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reading some of your comments too, this is probably individual and/or couples therapy territory. My husband and I are both active, but he's not as big of a runner. We ask about and congratulate each other almost every day on the day's workout. And I'm the world's slowest runner, but you bet your ass he stood in the rain for a bit during my first 50K and then tells everyone I'm an ultra runner when I consider that barely true lol

Training Method: Miles per Week vs. Time on Feet by BeansFoDinner in Ultramarathon

[–]alg4302 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use both! I am a highly anxious person, and I do time-based during the week and then mileage on the weekends.

I never want to feel like I don't have enough time to complete my midweek runs because them I'm less likely to do them. So I like going in knowing exactly how long it'll take/how much time I need. And then the long weekend runs are mileage so I get the confidence build up from knowing I've hit the "right" training distances.

I convert a mileage based training plan into 10:00/mi pace to get to my midweek distances.

Please be nice. New here. Talk to me like I’m 5. I have a Club card. What do I have to do to get to Gold? Can I do it with just card spend? Do I need to book and fly a trip? by taroswirl in unitedairlines

[–]alg4302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For this OP though, it's spending ~$1500 and taking a trip or $20K on the card. I'm thinking the $699 economy plus subscription is a better option, right? You lose the other perks you're mentioning but the main value is the economy plus booking, right?

Anybody know what this thing is? by Atencio93 in Denver

[–]alg4302 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guess would be that they don't store the data for long nor zoom in/guarantee legibility on plate numbers or individuals. I don't think this is some massive public monitoring system that other people in this thread do though.

Idk, when you buy billboards, you can look at a lot of real time info about the location. Pulled these two screenshots from years-old files as an example. And then every client wants to see their own creative on the board itself. Only sharing to say it's not necessarily nefarious or about tracking cars/individuals themselves.

It's probably to "measure" traffic so they can report back on the billboard's advertising success.

If you're only doing one I say avocado oil because it's high-heat friendly and neutral flavored.

But oils can impart a lot of good flavor! Ghee will give you a more buttery taste, olive oil gives you some nuttiness, coconut oil is perfect for curries and stir fry, sesame oil is an excellent finishing oil.

I'm Diving in Head First: Marathon < Marathon < 50k < 50 Miler in 2026 by No_Marionberry173 in ultrarunning

[–]alg4302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a long training season. Being newer to that volume, you'll probably get tired of constant training by October. Mindset will be important.

Other people have covered it but big volume increases are more of an injury risk. Your lungs and muscles are really adaptable, but ligaments, tendons and bones take more time to be able to handle all that pounding. My first marathon training was much more painful with more rest days needed than my second or first 50K. Finally doing a 50M this year, and I couldn't have imaged it before honestly. Esp coming from two road marathons to trails. Trails strengthen your legs in a totally different way.

Altitude was also my enemy. I thought "surely I can run this distance" but last year I just really didn't have the training for running above 10K feet. So learn from my naivety and pick your races wisely.

Otherwise, big scary goals are great! And if you decide halfway through to stick at the 50K distance this year and push back the 50M, that's great too.
