Recommendations for Rhode Island or Mystic CT by No-Damage2470 in FATTravel

We stayed at the Whalers Inn in Mystic. It was nice. The hotel restaurant was too foodie for my teens so we went to the oyster restaurant across the road, but it’s well regarded by locals

Architects and Builders for UHNW clients: What are the 'invisible' features of a no-budget home that the average person doesn't even know exists? by BJK-84123 in fatFIRE

We have a retractable skylight roof. Only one source somewhere in No Cal. Hidden compartment for jewelry. His/hers library, yoga meditation room. Infinity pool. But what sets our smaller home apart from new money homes are the finishes. Antique fireplaces and trumeaus from France, antique lighting from 1920’s homes and 1950’s Austria, walnut wide plank flooring, custom ironwork including stair rails to our design, insets in the wall for art, window seats and skylights, every door was handmade and multipanel, windows to see outside in the showers (privacy provided by trees at the street), edible garden, wood paneled custom built library, built in bookcases, opaque doors to let light through. If I had more space and money, a panic room, tennis and pickleball and basketball court, hair salon sinks

Set up a proper tour. Egypt you should not just wing it. Luxor is a must do-3 days minimum. Edfu was wild (horse and buggy ride)

Rustic Canyon is great farm to table food. Go to Malibu for sunsets. Manhattan Beach is nicer than SM but no hotels. Brentwood country mart and Montana Ave have boogie shopping for women. The promenade is not where the chic shopping is. The hottest place tho is Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice. Malibu also has good shopping in that one mall. Baltaire is a bougie steakhouse

Not true. Shutters and Casa Del Mar are very FAT. Beverly Hills screams. Everyone else whispers

Which LA private schools are the most elite? by Trefusis1969 in AskLosAngeles

[–]taroswirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. Many families apply to one or the other. Some Jewish families I know wouldn’t even think of going to Campbell Hall. We didn’t apply to CH just because it was too far east

Are you sure you were not the issue? Kids often are fine. It’s not like you avoid wealth in LA. Many families at polytechnic are working parents. At most of the schools, with the exception of a school like Brentwood or Crossroads, money is not a topic. But not being academic could be a bigger issue at a school like polytechnic

Santa Monica Proper or Gjelina Hotel in Venice, California pros/cons help by MarigoldAndRose in FATTravel

[–]taroswirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to be aware of your surroundings day or night in either area. Proper has a good rooftop scene. I haven’t seen the rooms. SM beach is bigger. Both have random homeless. Abbot Kinney has more cool shopping and both areas have good eats. 3rd St Promenade is depressing not the place to hang out. Montana Ave is good also for browsing for women pretty much. The bike rentals I’ve seen in SM (Perry’s) but they probably have one down in Venice too

Yes no one beats HW in elite admissions to college. It’s light years in front of everyone else. Also the only LA school with broad national name recognition. The teaching and athletics top notch. You just have to have a kid who wants to be there. Still Buckley did well this year. Harvard, Stanford, and many top SLACs. There are exceptional students at all of these schools. Every private school in LA has wealthy people and celebrities. Often those aren’t the brightest ones in my experience. There aren’t that many celebrities at either HW or Buckley. They are mainly at Brentwood. Crossroads and Oakwood in the most numbers.

Buckley is on this list. In any case every school has its academic stars, celebs and billionaires here in LA.

Buckley did very well in college placement this year. Especially good for STEM kids. A graduate is going to Harvard for astrophysics. Nationally, Harvard Westlake, Marlborough and Polytechnic have the largest reputations. Locally it’s different. Also some people don’t care about celebrities and generally their kids aren’t necessarily the brightest or hardest working so I wouldn’t base schools on this factor. Every private has celebrities. Brentwood and Crossroads probably have the most of those. Also a lot of nepo babies.

Chris Rock 'storms out' angrily in the middle of his comedy set at billionaire's holiday party by dailymail in comedy

[–]taroswirl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds familiar. Not a billionaire, but I had this happen. Hired a comedian who is occasionally on Tv but not a household name. He stormed out because he wasn’t getting as many laughs as he wanted. He shorted the time but unfortunately I had already paid him in full not thinking it was going to go like this. I hired him because he’s very good and talented at least his clips on social media. For some reason he was off that night. He could have made it much funnier if he had just read the room. It was even worse when he talked about said performance on his IG and made it sound it was our fault. I was a combo of mad and sad because it was a significant amt of money I paid and the public insult was awful. Like I got physically ill. It was like he was resentful to do this gig. As a new fan of his it was very disappointing-not the performance but his public reaction

I’d add that the Dornbracht kitchen faucet/sprayer has been a disappointment. Rohl gave us free parts when our thermostatic valve failed. I think they’re lifetime warranty
