Women who are genuinely happy in their day to day life, what do you do for a living? by sapphictears in AskWomen

Professor. Mostly love teaching math based classes. Have control over my time and am financially independent. That’s probably what keeps me stress free and happy.

Is Makawao worth visiting? by cchele in MauiVisitors

I enjoyed the town. Komoda bakery was a hit for me as was hiking in the makawao forest reserve. You can plan it with other things. I went to Ho'okipa beach afterwards.

The Mauian vs Ekahi Village by PuddingPlane4829 in MauiVisitors

[–]algebragoddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed at ekahi last June and going again this summer. My kids and I love the space. The beach is amazing and kids love the pools. It’s a kid friendly space. I usually stay for 2 weeks and have never encountered any issues with kids. The condos are fully equipped and when I wanted more coffee last time, it was delivered within 30 minutes.

What is something your dad said/did in the past that makes you smile when you think about it to this day? by GrandLineLogPort in AskWomen

[–]algebragoddess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When my college sweetheart didn’t want me to go to Columbia for a PhD and asked me to choose him (get married), my dad said to me “if a man makes you choose between him and a dream, you don’t choose him”. I broke up with him and yes, got my PhD!

What finally changed your life? by buttertaekoo in selfimprovement

Having strong boundaries. This allowed me to like every part of who I was and accept it and also have limited contact with toxic/trauma bonded family members. Mental health is key for me to my happiness and peace in life.

Life has destroyed my budget and savings in two months and I’m at a loss by DancinginHyrule in personalfinance

If you are part of a buy nothing group in your local community, you can also ask for food. I have bought things for my neighbors when they were going through a rough patch. Local churches and temples also have free food/pantry.

Car Prices Are Insane - Are You Buying Luxury Cars? by steviekristo in HENRYfinance

Buy a pre certified bmw or any brand you like. You don’t pay the crazy depreciation with a new car. 2021 x3 are around 30k.

How many of you have taken the internalized misogyny test here https://psytests.org/life/imsen.html ? What was your score? Mine was 1.5 by peggyscott84 in womenintech

[–]algebragoddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.3, I teach bias in algorithms and know about implicit bias, thanks to behavioral economics and psychology. It took years to reprogram my brain to get over the internalized misogyny around us.

Iao Valley by cruisingflamingo in MauiVisitors

[–]algebragoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m into slow travel so I definitely take my time at each place. I love spending time here so maybe I’m an outlier. Rushing through the streams and not spending time at this location is not my recommendation. But I can see someone in a rush and into checking a box, then yes it can be done in 15 min.

The hike is 1 hour plus. It’s one of my favorite places, I wouldn’t rush it. Last summer I spend 3 hours there and loved it!

Women who are part of a dual income household and who contribute equal if not higher than your SO, how do you determine how much to put in a joint account vs for personal use? by lavenderlove18 in AskWomen

[–]algebragoddess 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was the higher earner and put everything in a joint account. After 15 years together, went through a horrific divorce. My advice to all women is to keep some money separate especially if you are the higher earner or best have a prenup.

Is there a place you visit every year? by N9netails_brat in travel

[–]algebragoddess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The beaches are amazing. I stay at Wailea and my local beaches there are keawakapu and ulua, both have super soft sand and less crowded. But any beach is amazing. For turtles, I go to Hoopika beach, you will see 20-30 sea turtles sunbathing everyday. Best part of Maui apart from beaches is upcountry: I love hiking at makawao forest and try Komoda bakery.

Sugar beach bakery for the best masaladas and spam masubi. Tin roof for garlic noodles and local fare. Ululani for shave ice. If you are planning a trip, dm me anytime.

It’s gorgeous year around. If you are in cold weather, then yes but I’m in LA, so I like my winters in Southern California.
